Digging out the old bakehouse. First stage of renovating the walls to make watertight.

The digger has arrived to dig out the side of the old fournil ( bakehouse) and pull up the bramble roots and tree stumps. I've got a lot of raking to do, going through the soil to pull out all of the stones and rubble before re-seeding.
There is a lot of work to do and the weather is not playing ball at all. There is a lot to do for my vision to come to life. Some interesting finds in the soil gets my amature archeologist self rather excited over bits of broken glass : ))
Hidden away in France is a channel showing my life in the countryside of France. As a dressmaker of whimsical fairytale dresses to living a simple life whilst trying to renovate my old farm. My love of the outdoors and nature, ancient buildings and architecture to period costumes and all things related.
Thanks for watching,
Sian x

All those stones would make a nice retaining wall behind the bake house.

You are definitely an inspiration for woman on their own who would love to do what you are doing but are scared to just do it. Lovely to see the grounds coming together. I would love to see what you have done inside your home.

That saved a lot of back-breaking work and quite a transformation already. What will the old bakehouse be used for? 👍

Yes it did and so quick too. I need a place to store fabrics as my sewing room is over full! So it is crucial the building is as dry as possible.

Hello ! The thing you are holding (20:35) is a -very rusty- cow shoe. Cows used to be shod so they could walk the stony paths to and from pastures twice a day in olden times. You can still see many contraptions in villages, which were employed to shoe cows. They are called "travails". HIH

Thanks so much for this, I hadn't thought of that until you mentioned it. It was oxen that was used here to tend to the land and not horses, so it would make sense that shoes would drop off while they were working.

You might as well cut those Iris stalks with the buds. Now that you've uprooted them they're not likely to fully bloom. I'd ake them inside and enjoy as cut flowers. It's also recommended to cut all but about 3-4 inches of leaf off when you transplant. The roots can't support that much leaf after disrupting the root system. Recommended time for transplanting Iris I'd after they bloom.

Your hard work is paying off in the garden, and once it greens over you will definitely thank yourself for doing what you’re doing. Your videos are nicely filmed. I’m not being critical but your audio levels are a bit all over the place…..just a small thing but it does effect watching, hope you don’t mind me saying
