It's quite lovely the Chapel was absorbed by the House! I'm glad. I would have thought Henry Vll (the Hater) would have destroyed everything related to Richard lll. Seems as though the Tudors loved to destroy lives, institutions, and buildings. That could be why we find them so interesting, they were so passionate!

I suspected Henry VIII having a hand in the chapel's disappearance from the start of the video. The Tudors villified Richard III and Henry VIII dissolved the monasteries, turning some over to his cronies as estates and actually blowing up some lovely monastic churches with gunpowder. He evidently gave or sold the chapel to someone and basically made it disappear from the records.

Interesting argument, since detailed inventories of the real property and contents of some confiscated properties still exist. I would be more interested in the Bishop's records. Presumably there would have been a priest attached to the chapel, and tithes and other revenue to be accounted for. This may not provide a precise geographic location, but it would be helpful.

The irony is that im related to Richard the 3rd, but also to the guy who was henrys executioner and the guy who killed all his wives lol.

When was Tauton Hall constructed? (40:47 answers this question) Is it safe to assume that there was no then current memory about the burials on-site? In the city where I was raised, there are several Downtown buildings sitting atop former cemeteries (constructed between the 1950s and the 1970s); the cemeteries were less than a century old at the time. In the 1990s, I was slightly involved in getting legislation passed to prevent the redevelopment/reuse of cemeteries.

It would be really interesting to do a survey within the hall to see evidence of Richard’s chapel.

I really enjoyed your video! I love history, and especially, the medieval times. If its a chapel or monastic, I'm in love. ❤️🙏❤️

I think some of the imagined reconstructions of the battle may be a bit misleading. There's an awful lot of armour on display! Yes, the great leaders would have had all that kit on, the ordinary foot soldiers - the peasants Richard was apparently commemorating - would be considered lucky to have even a leather jerkin as their own PPE.
@pilsplease7561
@pilsplease7561 9 месяцев назад
Most of the common soldiers had metal armor of lesser quality, the idea of leather armor being common in the best cases for them is false

of course a metal detectorist would say it's the perfect instrument...IT'S NOT. what about all the potter, bone, structural evidence and all other evidence. Metal finds are one of the smallest sets of finds from a site

That is an absolutely ridiculous thing to say. If you are trying to make a political statement, it is ignorant at best and deceptive at worst.

Are there no paintings of the old chapel?

@elijahhodges4405 9 месяцев назад
@@williamharris8367 Not really. 31:45 does show what a chapel of the period looks like. But there were no paintings to show us if it was a small chapel or a larger more expensive chapel.

Towton is nearly 50 km south of the Thornborough Henges. Not really close. Stonehenge is far to the south.

First time for me 👍🏻 but you’re right I usually make sure I hit like so I don’t watch the same one over again but lately I’ve discovered that even though I liked something somehow it appears like a new one because the like is gone so I start watching it and realize I already saw it I hate that ‼️☹️ Lol
