Kidnapped is my favorite of McArthurs Disney roles. I'm surprised Disney didn't team him up with Hayley Mills in In Search of The Castaways. They knew each other before they did the 1965 British production The Truth About Spring. They met on the set of Swiss Family Robinson as home movie footage shows them together with cast members and their families. They would have been an ideal screen couple in that adventure film.

Thanks for watching, Anthony! Fascinating idea about Disney teaming up Jimmy Mac and HM, but I think the Castaways role would have needed to be significantly rewritten for James MacArthur to play it. It doesn't jive with his serious nature. Besides, I love Michael Anderson Jr in that film!

Was Disney not interested in using Bobby Driscoll in the late 50s?

No, Walt felt that Bobby had not grown up into a young leading man type past the mid 1950s. And as I have noted, Walt was looking for something different by then, a difference embodied by James MacArthur.
