Stephen Hillenburg the Writer, Director, Producer for Rocko’s Modern Life And Creator of SpongeBob SquarePants also work on this pilot as a writer, so the humor of SpongeBob definitely shows here.
To be honest, I found this pilot too fast paced and obnoxious, even if the masterminds behind the old spongebob episodes worked on this. Honestly, I just think that we should have been spent more time with character interactions in this pilot, the most we got was wagger annoying the commander with his general incompetence, which comes of as more of a lazy choice to add some kind of forced conflict and makes me think each episode would just be a tired repeat of this pilot's plot. I found the main character just as annoying as the commander did, which is NEVER a good thing if you want me to root for the protagonist, and his fast way of speaking didn't do him any favors either. I think a good pilot gives you a great sense of who you'll spend the most time with in each episode, giving each character a moment to shine so we get a broad idea of the kind of fun interactions we'll get, and deliver each moment in the pilot with thoughtful delivery and pacing. In my opinion, this story failed on all fronts, because we mostly focuse on wagger and everyone else save for the commander feel like a minor interaction with no clever jokes or gags to play off their personalities, and we end up getting something incredibly stale and tired feeling as a result. I could not tell you how much I wanted to like this pilot, based soley on writing credits alone, but in the end, the whole thing failed to make me crack a smile, only many deep sighs of wondering when it would end.
I guess it's supposed to be a subversion of the chosen one/perfect main character trope but I don't see a lot of perfect chosen ones so it's not usually funny or interesting on it's own
Why are there three voice actors credited for Diggs? If there were actually three different people doing different lines, they must have done a really good job, because I didn't notice at all. Also, it's so cool that Tom Wilson is in this!
Hard agree. A shame that this didn’t get the greenlight, would’ve fared better if some other networks picked it up if given the chance though. (also hi from one bee to another!! o/)
Same, I wish we knew why Cartoon Network rejected it. I mean come on, it was made by one of the most pivotal people on SpongeBob's crew, how could you possibly pass it up???? Would've been so great seeing this air with Chowder and Flapjack
I mean if you really think about it, all of the crew for this pilot for the most part, with the exception of Hillenburg, worked on Phineas & Ferb and Camp Lazlo for Disney and Cartoon Network respectively as well. Also Nickelodeon Studios is credited here as where it was recorded so it’s possible that this was pitched at Nickelodeon which is why so many SpongeBob alumni worked on it.
Man, I have anhedonia and I haven't enjoyed an episode of a series for a long time, but I found this pilot really entertaining. WHY didn't Cartoon Network greenlit this 😭😭😭, this pilot is MUCH better than most of Cartoon Network's today cartoons 😮💨. What a terrible decision on the part of the channel, smh. We need to sign a petition or something.
I guess Cartoon Network didn't want another SpongeBob-like show since this was made around the time Camp Lazlo ended production. With that being said, I really wish this was greenlit too, it would've been so amazing seeing this air with Chowder and Flapjack
Very nice sound design by Spongebob's Jeff Hutchins! This includes, of course, many of his signature sound effects he designed for that show; this pilot's facility is both Sabre Media and Hacienda Post, which are next door to each other. #soundmatters

So apparently Nick is going to pick this up...I don't really want that; I want to use Diggs in my crossover, and if Nick gets it, that means Viacom gets it...
I’ll do anything to have this pilot picked up I couldn’t stop watching this pilot when I fully watched it and Alex Kirwan does a great job at designs as always Also #RIPStephenHillenburg
Was this picked up by anyone? Because if I like it now, I think I would've a kid... If this was on Cartoon Network I don't remember it, which sucks. Also loove the voice acting :)
THE Berrby Well, the pilot was first originally pitched to Nickelodeon and has been given the greenlit as well at that time (with Super Scout, another cartoon pilot for The Mighty B!), but unfortunately this one never came to fruition without any reason given before passing it to CN.
I think it was pitched to CN first, but CN rejected it in 2007. Then a few years later, Nickelodeon saw the pilot around 2009 and greenlit it beside the Mighty B. However, that did never come to fruition. I could see why, they probably chose CN first because this pilot just screams "Spongebob ripoff". A lot of the production crew came from Spongebob, too, so they knew the craft. Since CN didn't have a show like it, this would have been an interesting choice for them. However, with Nick, they already have, well, Spongebob itself. I assume thats why DT got greenlit but then got stuck in indefinite limbo. The Nick execs figured it out, lol.
@@likeanyonecaresabouthandles idk Nickelodeon has greenlit tons of SpongeBob knockoffs I doubt that's why this failed. It's just a project that didn't happen to go anywhere. Happens sometimes.
(Gasped) Stephen Hillenburg the creator of SpongeBob SquarePants Writter,Storyboard,Director,Creative Producer and Creative Director of Rocko’s Modern Life 🥺😭😭😭😭😭🤧 RIP 🪦 Stephen Hillenburg
There's certain things about this that make me think of Dogs in Space: Pun-filled, funny space adventure-comedy with dogs, where everything that can go wrong does so, and the characters do take their jobs seriously but still are funny as heck Startrek - inspired space adventures with dogs and canine-themed equipment a smaller, intelligent, scrawny loyal friend dog sticking up for the incompetent hero (Goody/Chonies), funny, hammy villains and his dime-a-dozen henchmen the chubby, clumsy, starry-eyed, impulsive, overreactive, disasterprone, funloving mutt dreamer protagonist (Diggs Tailwagger/Captain Garbage) who often runs away most of the time but is a surprisingly capable fighter when really needed and a senior authority who hates his guts and wants him put in his place (Commander Duke/Captain Happy)

@@iidragonflyiiAnimations To me, it feels like a whole conversion that I can't even explain for myself. There is much of the SpongeBob team in this, so that might be true.
If this had became a full series, Spongebob would've been cancelled, because Paul Tibbit and Kent Osborne wouldn't have had time to work on Spongebob if they worked on Diggs Tailwagger
