Digimon Adventure 02 New Beginning Ending EXPLAINED! 

The only thing that bothers me when it comes to "canon" is the fact that Lui is supposedly the first digi destined but there are digi destined who are way older

Honestly from watching it i kinda feel party if the reason they remained Digidestined is because of their cellphone style digivices being proof they've grown past just being "chosen children". The movie really made me happy because it made a solid effort to address the fact that all relationships require proper communication for all parties to feel understood and validated.

I believe there is still one last story to tell for the original adventure cast, and it's how they get Agumon, Gabumon, and Biyomon back. But have it be a story that includes the cast of 01 and 02. I believe that should be the final story they tell for the 01 and 02 cast.

FINALLY A POSITIVE REVIEW OF THE MOVIE LETS FREAKIN GOOOOOO

As far as lining the canon ending up, both Kizuna AND Beginning still do this. We've known forever that Izzy had been working on ways to research and access the digital world, and that he was eventually successful. We know enough about Digimon lore now to know that a Digivice isn't always necessary for crossing over the border, be it Digimon or Human. Kizuna only really tells us that the bond is broken when the kids reach a certain age or try to grow up too quickly, but it doesn't mean that Tai and the older kids didn't eventually meet their friends again. The Beginning reveals that yes, Ukkomon is the one to have created the Digidestined and at least 1 digivice, but he isn't the one to have created the bonds the digimon have with their kids, which the 02 cast actively prove in the film. Honestly, Ukkomon is said to be an ancient digimon as well, so it makes sense that Gennai's people created the digivice before Ukkomon actually appeared, and Ukkomon then started the process of making new digidestined for Lui's friends. We can then assume from there, with the existence of so many bonds and the forces of evil growing, that Homeostasis started bringing chosen children over to keep the digital world safe. It's basically all one big domino effect. And in the end, 25 years later, as see that even after everything has happened, the kids and their parents don't have any sort of visible digivice visible when running around the digital world. Like The Beginning points out, the Digivice wasn't what bonded them together, and it's not important for a human and digimon to have to be able to bond.

This felt more like a Digimon Adventure 2020 Series but with the 02 Cast.

It was really rough, but very worth it! You’re so right, the 02 kids definitely went through it too so they can relate to Lui better than the Adventure kids.

Kinda felt to me like they wanted to make two different movies and just stitched them together Like they wanted to make an 02 epilogue movie cause everyone wanted to see that but they also just really wanted to make a movie about a new character called Lui that's much darker and less actiony so they just kinda squashed em into one. Also I think the canon criticism is kinda valid because even if the canon was kinda messy before, making it messier doesn't really help I think I get what they were going for but it kinda took out of movie explanations to try and explain it The lack of action probably could've been fine, but they kept the constant transformations and such like they were gonna hype up an action scene and or didn't want to fully commit to not following the series tropes and it just fell flat cause of that

I had a similar idea in my head during the Lui scene. I just had a silly moment and blurted out "me when i get a kinder surprise egg" and the theatre erupted with laughs from sheer shock value. another thing i noticed that no one spoke on was how yolei knocked on the door using the same phrasing as the pendulum advertisement. very cute movie that made me smile until the mom started beating lui relentlessly 😎

@ 3:54 You can’t say that about TK and Kari. They exist in a weird Middle Ground between 01 and 02, because they were apart of both groups. It’s like Cyborg being apart of the JL and the TT. And unfortunately, that works against them. Because like the 01 cast, they were gung ho about killing Meicoomon to destroy the Libra Virus. Davis wouldn’t do that. He would save Meicoomon and destroy the Libra Virus. This is why I don’t like Tri, because the 01 cast basically acted on their own and didn’t even try to help or find the 02 crew. Not really. And the fact that the 02 crew died in the Digital World, were in the Digital World when it rebooted, and were absent from everyday life for a YEAR, they’re just chill with 01’s actions. And I will never not get over that, because that’s a super big deal! I get it: Kids’ Show, don’t focus on OoC actions, but when it’s continuous throughout a season of Digimon Adventure, it really sticks, and hurts. So no, TK and Kari aren’t that close to the others realistically if they allowed them to be gone/dead for a year without a second thought of guilt or anything. Maybe they are with their Digimon, and I wholeheartedly believe that, but not with their human “friends” and “teammates”.

Canon matters because of the unanswered questions between the The Beginning and 02's Million Points of Light. It exists. What happens to the older children's digimon? One final scene that shows the older kids watching the 02 kids play in the snow and hearing Agumon say "Tai(chi)" a famous line that Agumon says whenever he and Tai are reunited, would have satisfied the happy ending needed for the adult kids getting their Digimon back

There's just a few things I would of liked to see as a digimon fan. For instance back in the Tri series all of the digidestined manged to digivolve their partner into their Mega forms. I would of liked to see that for Syilphymon and Shakouomon. Also, you mentioned something interesting if the did decide to make a pt 2 or another movie with the 02 cast. How would they digivolve? Well if we go back to Digimon data squad, there were times digimon digivolved without the use of a digivice. So I think you can apply that logic here right?

So, will the partner Digimon be able to still digivolve? Cause in the DNA scenes, we see the phones being used. Could the phones still have the data needed to let their partners digivolve?

The theatre that I was part of that saw this movie was nothing but adults, except for one couple that had a very small child with them and sat behind us; I knew that they had no idea what they were in for - so I turned around and politely warned them about the graphic content and topics that would be coming up in this film that might be too much for for their six-7-year-old to see. they thanked me graciously for the warning, and I could tell that during those parts of the movie they were definitely doing some interference for her eyes and ears. 👍🏻 I hope they got to enjoy the rest though just fine.

The body horror was so out of left field, but i wanted to see more of it! And i went into this with my partner who hadnt seen any digimon and for the most part they enjoyed the movie without much back story and i think that's one of the successes with this movie

Good review, glad you brought up the point about the 02 kids being closer as a group than the 01 group which is definitely true and overlooked. This movie made me appreciate them more too, I remember being annoyed with Davis as a kid but now you appreciate him because he's like the glue that keeps the group together.

Good evening. I actually wasn't aware that there's a new Digimon movie. It actually sounds pretty interesting. Personally, I like the Digimon media that balances the old kid friendly tone of the Fox Kids version with the much darker & mature elements of things like the Light Novels. I'll hwve to figure out where to watch this anime sometime. Oh also, do you know if Digimon Ghost Game has an English dub Xanadu & if not where can I watch it. I think it used to be on Crunchyroll, but now I'm not so sure.

Nah cuz what you said at the end about the oonga boonga "it's here cuz we gotta do this" stuff, we got that already and it was called Digimon Tri and woooooooh boy did it try. I agree though, I'd like a lil depth to my digital monsters and this'n delivered imo

I thought this movie was really good. Now that I think about it, It actually felt like I was watching an episode of Digimon rather than an actual movie. Not saying that's bad, but it moved really well the pacing. I didn't feel bored. I do wish there was more action and that they didn't use 3D on the Digimon's when they were battling at the end. Standard 2D would've looked so much better.

I love darker tones in Digimon so i was quite content when I saw the movie the other night! I felt so bad for Lui because it felt like the writers just kept throwing curveball after curveball with him XD I think one of the best parts though for me is when they're hearing his story in the computer room and everyone just looks at each other and are like "...wait...All of that sounds kind of like your fault bro, do you even know what kind of stuff your digimon likes?" XD Anyways I hope we get a much deserved TAMERS movie in the future! I really miss that series but the creators seem to want everyone to forget about it :') Cheers mate! 🍻

I want to see what happened to the cast from Tamers after Takato found a way back to the Digital World.

I fall in between those who absolutely loved it and those who absolutely hated it. I think it it was a good movie, but it definitely could have been better in a few areas. For example, it definitely could have had a little more action in the final fight. And I also think that, like with Kizuna, things could have been explained better. Like, how does Ukkomon's wish-granting tie in with the lore of Homeostasis choosing kids for the specific purpose of saving the digital world? I don't think there's an outright contradiction here regarding the lore. Maybe Homeostasis saw what Ukkomon was doing and was like "Hmm...I can use this. We have a Dark Master problem. These kids and their digivices can speed up digivolution. Ultimate and Mega Digimon are rare here in this world. I think I'll allow Ukkomon to do his thing." And so Daigo's group gets chosen, then Tai's group when the Dark Masters strike again, and then Davis' group is chosen for the Digimon Emperor problem and MaloMyotismon's return. Ukkomon DID say he had a connection to a special being. Kari speculated that it could be Homeostasis, but this was never confirmed or disconfirmed. I was also a little disappointed that this wasn't the bridge between Kizuna and the 02 epilogue I was hoping for. I had theorized that Ukkomon's wish-granting ability plus Lui's wish for every person on the planet to get a Digimon partner would be the means by which Agumon, Gabumon, and Biyomon were brought back to life and reunited with Tai, Matt, and Sora, thus explaining their presence in the 02 epilogue. It would also explain the part of T.K's narration in that epilogue about how every person on the planet got a Digimon. But this latter part was halted by the defeat of Ukkomon, which was an odd writing decision imo. It wasn't a bad movie. I quite liked it, but it could have been better. There were just several missed opportunities. And I think new forms is one of several missed opportunities. We didn't necessarily need a Veemon Bond Of Courage and Friendship or anything like that. Just giving the other kids their Jogress megas in the forms of SlashAngemon and Valkyriemon would have been enough. Now, that's enough for the negative. Here's what I liked about the movie; I liked about the movie were the dark tone and backstory. The flashback sequence where Lui loses his shizz and Ukkomon makes Lui's corpse parents into puppets was very dark. It looked like something straight out of Digimon Ghost Game! I also appreciated the callback to Revenge Of Diaboromon via the news coverage in that same flashback sequence. The updated digivolution scenes were beautiful, and so was the animation. I also really liked the flirty moments between Yolei and Ken which just further confirms the canonicity of the 02 epilogue (because, you know, they were married). I love how the English dub was handled. Like Kizuna, they kept the Japanese soundtrack and BRIAN DONOVAN CAME BACK AS DAVIS! Derek Stephen Prince as Ken and Veemon was nostalgia to my ears as well. I noted how little action there was, but what Digimon fighting was shown was very well animated. And I was surprised that the attacks didn't keep their dub names in the dub. For example, Sylphymon's attack was called "Top Gun" rather than "Static Force" as it was in the original Saban dub. I was also glad that this wasn't just a "Davis and Ken" movie with the rest of the kids sidelined. This pretty much happened in Kizuna where it was just Tai and Matt and their Digimon, and the rest of the Adventure kids really weren't there. But no, all 6 of the 02 gang all got decent screen time. And like Kizuna, this movie had a "moral of the story". Whereas Kizuna's was "You need to grow up, even if this requires sacrificing things from your childhood that you love" (which I can appreciate as a working adult with next to no free time), the moral of this movie was about the importance of open communication in a relationship. Whether between spouses, friends, parents and children, if you don't openly communicate your feelings, but make assumptions and inferences, you're going to have a lot of problems. I liked that this real world issue is what caused the problem, as they could have easily just gone the Wendigomon route and said "He's going rogue because of a virus!" which, wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing. But given how similar the Lui/Ukkomon situation is to the Willis/Wendigomon situation, the fact that the source of conflict is just a lack of communication and not understanding each other's feelings makes Lui's story feel different. Like I said, I fall in between those who just absolutely loved it and those who absolutely hated it. I liked it, to the point that I plan on watching it again at some point (whenever I go through Digimon Adventure again). But these missed opportunities just kept this good movie from being a super awesome movie. I do think we need one more movie precisely because we didn’t get that bridge between Kizuna and the 02 epilogue I was hoping for. There are several plausible fan theories as to how the two can connect, but I would really like an official explanation shown on screen. I don’t want the Digimon equivalent of “Somehow Palpatine returned.” But after that, yeah, I agree, we don’t need any more Adventure movies. Give us a Tamers or Frontier sequel! That would be awesome!

The moment TK and Kari was confirmed as a couple at the end made me so happy. I only waited 22 or so years for that.

We gotta remember that the Digimon indeed were not predestined to the chosen 01 or chosen 02 or even the 00 As far we know Gennai due the wishes of Homeostasis to preserve the balance between light n dark in the digital world. They were the ones who developed the digivices attached to the specific Digimon for the 01 and 00 .. however the D3 were created by the dragon deity to counter the Black D3 created by The deity of Dark Ocean . Ukkomon said that he has connections to a superior entity … there’s many in digital world but the one we know who created the digivices is the Homeostasis in fact . Also Kari in the movie said that could be homeostasis … that’s the reason why Ukkomon could created something similar … I believe Lui wished to not have that connection (digivices) because he wants to create his own like the other chosen did even. So yeah the digivices were made by a high purpose of the digital entities in their digital war … we also see the same purpose in the other Digimon franchises … that’s the bridge made by the superiors to accomplish some duties thru the Digimon and humans . The movie has many simbolismo and also many metaphorical blinks … In the other hand I wonder how they will travel to digital world or digivolve if they don’t have the digivices to perform it … also the digivolve sequences how will it be ? We remember the D3 terminal also stores the digimentals .. so it means that digimentals will be back in the digital world ? Even the DNA digivolve will no longer possible ? Maybe just the natural evolves ? We saw in Tri A digivices sealed being used in a way to fuse with a reanimated Digimon .. also we saw a digivolve possibility with a recent sealed or broken digivices in Kizuna .

I think the canon was messed with a little but not by as much as people are upset. Tri had the original chosen children who were earlier than Rui but I don’t think they ever had a digivice that was shown. The circumstances behind their selection always seemed to be separate from the Adventure kids and this movie just kinda proves that. They also all lose their digimon partners which become the sovereign. So Rui is the first chosen child of the “modern era” I guess you could say. The only thing that really goes against canon is I think in the epilogue the children of the Adventure and 02 cast have Digivices which is easy to look past. I kinda thought Rui’s mom having such a quick change of heart when he goes back in time (or was it a memory??? Kinda confused still) was a little rushed. He then has his eye back which… does that mean that it was time travel and he changed his past or was that just Ukkomon magic… We also get no reference if losing the Digivices means the OG cast get their digimon back. I liked the movie but I just feel like it raises more questions and doesn’t really care to answer them. Who or what is Ukkomon connected to? Was he a part of a bigger plan? Was someone pulling Ukkomon’s strings? Where did the rule of the chosen losing their partners come from and why?

One: I enjoy the fluff out of ghost games I thought if they'd have enough episodes they could of covered things slowly like they wanted v.v. Two: I've not see any of the new adventure movies/shows and have been kinda hesitant against it mainly because I enjoyed the orignal 02 ending and thought it's epilog tyed up everything nice enough to not really need anything more (as unpopular of an opinion it may be) The movie sounds nice (and or nicer then last evo) so I may give it a try now. (your general review helped xD) I in general enjoy the theam of digimon and humans coming together to make a better world(like ghost game and appimon) and have generally disliked the almost forced removal and or separation of tamers from there mons. (Then again I know I live in that eternal world of imagination so my views aren't entirely the same as others xD)

I still think this movie lines up to the eventual future that 02 gets to, tbh. Ukkomon wanted everyone to have a Digimon, we know that everyone in the world eventually has their own Digimon. The third movie should take place in our time, and feature the Adventure and 02's kids and the path towards restoring their parents Digimon. I think it'll be great!!

If the epilogue is canon then more than likely Lui will make another wish which results in Agumon and other digimon, who've been 'snapped', returning. But I hate the plot holes and questions. Why did the wish result in these bonds fading out of existence when children becomes adults ? Lui is the true chosen one of this reality, since he gets wishes why is Lui special? And what special digimon god gave ukkamon the wish granting power?

I actually really enjoyed this movie more then kazuna. I think my only minor gripe was that we didn't see the armor evolutions even as a small cameo. I also kind of would have liked to see new evolutions for Sylphiemon and shakuamon. But honestly there pretty minor gripes. But I loved seeing the 02 cast being close friends that hang out together, and I loved seeing the darker elements balanced out with the genuine hope and optimism of the 02 character. I especially loved them pointing out davises character growth, with ken pointing out that Davis is more thoughtful and careful then when he was a child. Ultimately just a wonderful finale! Now let's see them revisit and do a follow tamers series of movies!

You mention several scenes similiar to Evangelion. Well, Rui happens to be voiced by Megumi Ogata the same voice actress of Shinji Ikari.

I loved the movie. Lui and Ukomon are both tragic characters and I'm glad they had a happy ending. Definitely makes me appreciate the 02 digidestined more than the OGs because they have a more solid bond. And I'm glad Willis, Terriermon and Lopmon made an appearance at the end of Kizuna and this movie

Would’ve liked a bit more action. Plus it seemed like when they evolved it was just for the sake of Digivolving.gatomon goes into her natural ultimate but not mega same with tk not doing it just to dna and its like they might as well had the other two pairs or progress to being ogress megas. In terms of th story told it’s wa interesting and gripping but the being the first digdestined thing just felt like it didn’t fit.i like the ending but I genuinely left the theater wondering if I enjoyed it. Which I do but it left some to be desired. That’s being said the new characters are new are too tier

I would like one more 01+02 movie where daemon returns from the dark ocean as the final boss, and the 01 kids digimon return to help, which leads into the 02 epilogue just to tie things up with a bow. I know it’s not necessary, especially when tri, kizuna, and this film did things to really Jack up the lore and canon, but I would love to see it. I personally just want to see more daemon and dark ocean and have that resolved.

I wish the movie was a little longer. I was hoping for more of a check in with the 02 cast. More slice of life stuff up front. I wonder if Ken got therapy or if TK and kari got together.

So they retconned Adventure (again?) I remember the series which explained why they were DigiDestined. It was important and it mattered.

Such a refreshing breath of air after the overbudgeted fanfic that was Tri and the contradictory Kizuna ending. My biggest gripe currently with Digimon is the whole “you lose your partner” thing that directly goes against the 02 Epilogue. Now, this movie did that concept right. It showed that the bonds between partners transcend the Digivice. Honestly, the fact that they aren’t going to the Digital World anymore (again, not counting Tri) means the Digivice weren’t as necessary anymore. I wish they didn’t treat the 01 gang with such disrespect. Yes, Tai and Izzy were shown in the film and the explanation for them not being in the battle was spot on, but what about the other four? Did Mimi move back to America? Sora too traumatized to leave her room? Joe being busy with Doctorate classes gets a pass. Was Matt in training to become an Astronaut? Leaving them out of the fight without a solid explanation does them a disservice. We know they’re a team together, all 12 of them. The last time they did so was against Diaboromon, but nothing since. We know Tri f-ed 02 over in several ways, and Kizuna kept 02 sidelined because “01 special, 02 doesn’t matter”, and that’s just hurtful. This movie did a way better job treating the 01 gang (or at least 2 of them) with respect. And the logical answer to Lui’s problem was actually introducing himself to the Digidestined. He’s known about them since MaloMyotismon’s deletion. Heck, he technically should have been there and someone should have at least seen him, but that’s beside the point. If Lui wanted to make friends, he’s gotta put himself out there and take the first step. I’m not counting it against the movie because plot trumps logic to tell a story, but I’m just saying… Anyways, it was a fun and great movie! 8/10 for sure!!

Okay, so my main issue with the movie is how on earth do we make sense of this with what Tri revealed about the previous generation of digidestin? Their event happened years before Luis exposure took place I think.

I have given this a lot of thought before commenting. I have been a lifelong digimon fan. I warched all of adventure 1 and 2. I enjoyed them immensely . I even enjoyed Tri despite its flaws. I saw last evolution as a near perfect movie giving some justice to the 02 cast as well a send off to tai and matt. This movie's plot pokes more holes in cannon in order to tell a story than all 6 tri movies combined. That just doesn't sit well with me. In Digimon, drama and action go hand-in-hand. This movie was 90% drama. Normally i wouldn't mind that if the drama built enough stakes that the one final battle felt weighty enough. This wasn't the case. Battle felt like a half done obligatory choice. No new evolutions is sad but far from a deal breaker. Also, i feel like trailers sold me on the idea that this was a movie about the 02 cast and Lui. What we got was a movie about Lui that happens to share the 02 cast. I guess what i am trying to summarize is that this movie felt extremely out of balance. I think Lui's back story was a fascinating and bold venture but it dominates the entire movie. Anyways I'd enjoy some more push back if you think i misrepresented something.

I pretty much agree with everything you said, I really loved this movie! Adding on to what you said about it not working with another cast, I think there are multiple reasons it only works so well because it's the 02 cast, but ultimately I think it comes down to Lui's wish for friends. We've seen Davis/Daisuke go out of his way to help and befriend other Digidestined multiple times, mainly with Ken but also Willis, so he was exactly the person Lui needed. This kid's going to befriend everyone with his unrelenting optimism and he won't take no for an answer lol. Not to mention the 02 cast have been through so much that they can easily sympathize with not only Lui but also Ukkomon (as amusingly jarring as it is that Kari's immediate takeaway from Lui's tragic backstory was "poor Ukkomon", it's also very sweet and in character for her to see both sides of the story.) so they were the perfect cast to push him to communicate and work things out with Ukkomon rather than just killing him.

Sorry but this movie has too many plot issues and retconns to be good. Cody, TK nor Kari felt the same as they did in 02. They felt like the regressed to the quite shy unspoken kids they were at the start of 02. Why is Lui special that he can get a wish granting digimon? Why can Ukkomon grant wishes? The final "fight" was so anticlimactic and just felt akward. The dna digivolutions felt more forced then needed. Seeing angewoman get 1 hit ko was horrible. The power scaling in this movie was bad. Digimon is all about power scaling with all the different levels but in this movie they made a baby digimon as strong as imperialdramon? I loved the darker tone to the movie and seeing the growth of the characters we did. Just the movie felt like it had nothing to really do with digimon that they just had a good scipt about life lessons and said hey lets add digimon to it at the last second.

As an man in his late 30s who statarted with the series the day it aired on fox kids and still loves digimon, I just liked the fact that the original 02 ending showed the adults with their digimon. Kizuna kinda felt like a slap in the face telling me to move on? Maybe I took it too personal. I was really hoping this movie was gonna give the 01 cast their digimon back. I dont need tai ans crew to have more adventures but i think its kinda messed up that all these random kids get digimon but the crew that saved the earth and the digital world multiple times cant have access their digimon buddies. I havent had a chance to see thos yet but it seems cool enough. I do kinda wish wallace was in this and I wish they would stop introducing new digidestin and then doing nothing with them. Like why couldnt this movie have been about one of the like 20 other digidestin we already know in this universe. Do they really have to keep adding more then not really utalize most of the one we already know?

I think for me, as a follow up to Kizuna that was very much a "Good bye, All of Digital Monsters" moment for me, 02 the Beginning felt like it was leaving the door open to some kind of follow up adventure. Granted.. I saw the dub out of nostalgia, so there could have been a bit lost in translation, but all the times they mentioned Ukkomon got his power from a 'great being' made me a little suspicious, like they wanted me to remember that. (Kari going "You mean like Homeostasis?" made me giggle a lil) But then again, it could just be another Dark Gennai situation. But I think the ending is vague enough to fit whatever head canon you need to get you to the 02 epilogue if you so choose. Like Tai lost Agumon cuz, he was too old to protect Rui or some crap, but now that his shackles on 'destiny' are gone, they can reunite and Matt and Gabumon can go to Mars lol. In retrospect I think the 01 cast could've had some involvement- like Sora seeing Biyomons egg above her and having to decide to move on for the greater good. There was hardly a guarantee the 02 gang would lose their Digimon. Ultimately, fantastic movie imo, but I think I was good with the closure Kizuna gave me, and this kinda opened that door again. PS. Honestly thought Rui was gonna hit Ukkomon with the bat. My jaw was on the floor through most of that scene.

I just watched it recently and it was beautiful. It reignited my love for Digimon after Tri and Kizuna. Besides that, the post credits scene kinda gave me hope that there might be another digimon movie or series coming soon.

I loved the movie, the theme and the tone, the action scenes and the fan service were really good, on point to say the least. However, what a really did not like is that as a follow up to kizuna this movie fails terrbly, because it contradicts everything that movie did. In kizuna the mons are gone because the cast reached a point in his lives where there was no more potential in them. The problem is that this was mediated by the digivice, so if according to the beginning, the digivice was not important to begin with, as long as the bond was strong enough, then why did agumon and gabumon needed to go?. Don´t tell that the bond of tai/matt with the mons was not strong because that collildes with the evolution based in BONDING that they went with in the last movie. IF the beginning were its own thing like tri and kizuna are to each other, there would not be a problem, but it really does not make sense as it is. On the other hand the fact that ukkomon returns to Rui also does not make sense, because it recks the rules of that world, Ukkomon may be digi god itself, but digimon that die in the real world DO NOT RETURN, wizardmon, meicoomon, agumon, gabumon are just itching on their graves to this fact. It is ok that the adventure universe is a mess but they do not tend to bend those stablished rules this hard. As most of the movies in these days my problem with the beginning is how it is marketed, do not link it to Kizuna and it is perfectly fine, but as a direct sequel it just does not make sense.

Seeing Sora, Matt, and Tai lose their digimon in Last Evolution was heartbreaking. The Beginning provides the perfect lore-points to give us a way to bring back all the Adventure 99 partners without it feeling dumb or out of nowhere.

I don't get why people would be upset at tri being retconed. tri was trash, it wasted time for 6 whole movies and treated the 02 cast as an afterthought until the bit in film 6. it made us think we'd get more dark ocean and dark gennai, made us think there was a new digimon emperor, made us think they killed davis and ken's imperialdramon, focused too much on the new character meiko, had the digital world be rebooted and all the friends they met in adventure 1 and 02, just gone, and so many issues. anyone that is defending tri saying it shouldn't have been retconned is a joke and capping.
