Digimon Survive, Let's Talk About It... (Review)

Hope Digimon blows up in the future with some more banger games, and if its just for your channel getting more recognition, youre a damn good entertainer man. You also nailed so many points where I felt exactly the same regarding Survive, I played to 3 endings, with the true route being the second, and maybe I would've enjoyed the third run more if I havent seen the true ending already, but I couldnt get myself to play the Harmony Route which I am still missing. Still havent watched any videos on it, since I think I'll go back to playing that one in the future, as well. So there really is something in this game which is great, but its also nothing you could really recommend to anyone not hugely invested into digimon already

3:59 My Main gripe with Survive early on was the route system especially for evolutions. I didn't know much about it, wasn't following every digimon video or piece of news. But I got to a certain point in the game and realized I didn't get what I wanted blew me. So I sat there for like 3 days arguing with myself... "Do I start over or nah".

Meanwhile, I'm here like "These battles are getting in the way of my text" :v I'll excuse Survive's combat being to simplistic due to this being their first TRPG in over 20 years and Habu trying really hard to make Digimon games easier to get into for newcomers. This game manages to both look really good presentation wise and feel like it's not delivering enough when some of the more important scenes come, which kinda undestandable, since this is a budget game in a series that's already running on a budget. But if we get a Survive 2, it's because the game perfomed well, and is officially the Third main game series, so I'm expecting all the upgrades :v I wouldn't expect for Ufotable level quality though, since it's still Toei doing the animations and when they outsource their stuff to other studios they make sure to turn their work schedule into a hellscape. I have no issues with the amount of text, but rather with how it's spaced out throughout the game. They dropped most of it in the first 5 chapters and some other places felt like they were lacking. The in-dept look into the characters psyche is really a big thing for Visual Novel, so much so that if you see look up anime adaptations, like the Fate series, some of the biggest complaints are how Shirou's inner thoughs are mostly absent, which resulted in a lot of his character being lost in the process. So I think those should definitely stay. So long story short, what I expect from a possible sequel is: -Balance out the amount of the text through the game -Nice animations on important scenes -Ramp up the complexity of the maps and upgrading the battle system without forgeting the fun aspect. -Balancing out enemies like the Kenzoku (it's fine when they're meant to be a boss fight or into one, but when they're just there as average enemies through the whole map, they're just annoying to kill) Also *please* put more care into making the dialogue faithful to the original. This game didn't even have an english dub to use as excuse and not only the text didn't match at all what the characters said sometimes, but all those blusterships were still killing me of cringe :''v

Tbh i hope the next survive (if there's any) add a digivice and card option like digimon tamers.... imagine if your guilmon is land type movement then when you "card slash" with silver wing option card the move type gonna change to "fly". I guess that gonna be fun :)

Finished digimon survive last night and I liked the story and the surprises that happened during a few of the characters and the story itself 😀👏👏👏

Really enjoyed watching your LP of this game. It's unfortunate that this game is go largely under the radar for this year. Cause 2022 was stacked with some many big entries. For me this is my underrated game of the year

I would add 1 thing, I started the game playing as a collector, and the repetitiveness of "the questionnaire" for catching the high-level Digimon with the low percentage catch rate you stated, farming digivolution items, and the fact that you have to restart battle a lot of times to get the Digimon you wanted, made me a had a burnout that resulted in only completing 2 endings. I pretend to come back eventually but, that grinding is way felt more tedious than the average RPG TBH.

I still haven't bought this game yet but so far digimon cyber sleuth was my fav digimon game I've played.

i really did love the game brought back so many memories of season 1 but it was to much like it, i was playing the psp game of digimon adventure and it was just like the game but different characters and overall a more darker look into digimon hell i shooked when ryo died and then more others then that

The routes definitely became predictable after my second playthrough for sure. At the very least the second act was always different enough to keep me engaged. That gameplay though was very lackluster, and didn’t make me feel bad about blasting through it with Agumon being force fed every stat item lol.

I think when Survive finally dropped I was just craving any new Digimon game. It was tough just waiting for it so when the game finally dropped I was able to power through all 4 play throughs Originally the plan was play one play-through, Play different game rinse and repeat. but I just kept thinking about digimon after I played that after the first playthough and playing a different game I went back and did the final 3 playthroughs and plat the game. Overall I liked survive story but my main problem was that their reactions to things didnt make sense in the true playthrough. Like when Ryo doesnt die they still need to be calmed down at the end of the chapter, and I was like but no one died? it made sense the first time around because Ryo died , but on the true path it should have been changed. Same with when lopomon dark digivolves and their reaction in the next chapter of them not trusting their digimon even on the true ending. it kind of doesnt make any sense since no one died. Also the scene you was talking about with the friends being caught in the web it happens if you dont warn the ones not captured. Ryo, the other dude can all be webbed up.

I'm just now about halfway thru since I usually play it on weekends and while narratively the game is very interesting the pacing FEELS slow. But not in a way that adds tension but more like a slog. But given everyone's high praise of the narrative I'm gonna try to stick it out. As a disgaea fan I'm a little spoiled with their trpg combat but this one was...fine. the camera is trash tho

Not to joke but during the development of this game, really its main objective was just to *SURVIVE* till its release, cause this game almost got cancelled and scrapped during its development.

Look i enjoyed digimon surive a lot and I did 2 routes moral and true. (I admit it was exhausting) I enjoyed when the story got to the main points. I thought I was watching an anime it was good. But the thing i hated was getting there. I like visual novels games and played quite a bit of them and rpgs so im no stranger to a lot of dialog. However I hated some of the dialog in this game. They go back and fourth on the same subject saying the same thing 20 times and it gets exhausting. For example the part when they are in the sewers and you have to pick which digimon was the real one that part was so ridiculous bc we already talked about their doubts fears, and weakness so many times beforehand and Its has padding and pacing problems where something really dont matters. Then you have the free time I thought it would be like danganronpa or persona with social links now I didnt mind them did like the change of pace but sometimes it wasn't anything. it was like "hey aoi" "hey im in the kitchen cooking" "okay." or once again a dialog we already went through 20 times at that point. Now it wasn't like that all the time but some of the time. I noticed this when I was so excited to see the next major plot in the story. I was like can I skip this I really want to know what happens next. My final thing was I like the moral ending more yeah the true ending is cool but something about them being dead and the group photo and the ending just felt like they survived ones really grew up now they do that in the true ending too but it wasn't so impactful to me like the Lopmon scene really disturbed me or the omnimon (omegamon) As a long time digimon fan I know this seems negative but I really enjoyed the game bc the good parts was really good its just I hated when it stopped to talk about the same thing we already talked about so much. Honestly a 7 out of ten is perfect for this game I would love a sequel or another side game doing another visual novel just with a little work.

I love the art style of this game but I didn't want to buy or play it simply for the fact its pure visual novel & not turn based rpg. Simple stuff!

I like the game... but I'm not too wild about how dark and cynical it gets. Doesn't help that I grew up watching Digimon Adventure...
