Demonstration teacher Christina Barthel demonstrates how she uses a digital breakout activity as a high engagement strategy with her students as the culminating review of a two week unit on solving multi step linear equations. Over two days, students work collaboratively to solve problems, use Google Forms, use error analysis, and eventually unlock a storage box to discover a prize. Not only does this activity show students mastering Mathematical standard 8.EE.C.7, it also addresses SMP #1- Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them and SMP #3- Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others.
