You are a great teacher, but you should beat that rod man with a stick for letting it fall the way he did. That could have hit your level and damaged it. ALL of the survey party members should be alert to what they are doing. I would have stopped it all at the point he let the rod fall and took him aside for better training. That was so careless of the helper to not notice what could happen to the rod while your attention was on teaching. That was not your fault he should have known to keep the rod firmly under control at all times in the field.
