As the UK works towards the dual goals of increasing housing supply and reducing emissions, the construction industry must adapt to meet these challenges. Historically slow-moving, an innovative and agile approach is required to compete in the marketplace, securing tender contracts and providing sustainable, safe buildings and civil engineering projects. The term Modern Methods of Construction encompasses a number of technologies, materials, and strategies that have the potential to transform the built environment sector, as outlined in the MMC Definition Framework developed by the MHCLG Joint Industry Working Group. Understanding how these methods tie together throughout the supply chain to offer the best results is key to successful implementation, and improving access to insurance, assurance, and finance is resulting in a growth of confidence in the sector.
The 2020 Construction Playbook recognises the potential of MMCs to transform the delivery of public works projects. Initially explored in the housing sector, offsite and modular buildings are now being embraced in the health, justice, and education sectors to help drive faster and greener delivery, bringing net-zero targets within reach across the public sector.
This event will explore MMCs through keynote presentations and best-practice case studies. Delegates will hear from sector experts who will guide us through this complex landscape, and seek to provide networking opportunities as well as continued learning for attendees.
