Practicing guitar is more effective (and more fun) when you have something to play along with. Unfortunately, by the time you program your drum machine or sequencer, your inspiration is gone. DigiTech's SDRUM solves this dilemma. Simply dream up a groove, bang out a couple of bars on your guitar, and the SDRUM's BeatScratch technology will build a full drum accompaniment based on your performance. SDRUM leaves plenty of room for customization, with control over tempo, intensity, grooves, and sounds. You also get pads on the front panel for inputting patterns manually.

I’m not kidding when I say that the SDRUM got me into performing live again. This thing is incredible. I highly recommend the external foot switch so you can change song sections and add drum fills. Hoping that Digitech comes out with more incredible products like this in the future.

Hey guys from Sweetwater, I bought one used sdrum and I have two questions, maybe you could help me :) 1) how do I create a beat, using only the verse, and when I click on the switch it only creates a quick drop to return to the verse, instead of going into chorus? 2) How do I change from play to learn functions? To be able to re-do all my beats? Thanks for sharing this guide.

Cool that you can sync up with a looper. Too bad it's the Jam man..or can you use another like a Ditto ? I have a drum pedal but it doesn't sync..I need this

does anyone know if you can leave it in learn mode all the time. I am thinking that for a live performance it would be great to start a song with a few dead strums to suit the basics of the beat and then hit the start button to bring in the additional sounds. it would be great to go from a country song to a rock n roll song if this is the case. I find setting up a pattern and tempo on a drum machine spoils the flow .

Chris, I have been using this pedal for 3-months now and it's so versatile. Sounds realistic, but no Keith Moon. Simple controls make it eady to use. I especially like the fact it sounds good through the amp. Not many other drum effects can do this. A good addition to my board. 👍🎸👈

Hi Sweetwater: Could it learn a pattern, instead of from a guitar, from an external audio source, like a phone or computer? Or even a keyboard? For example, if I hooked up my phone to it and played The Beatles "Tomorrow Never Knows," would it learn the song's complicated beat? Or must it be string-deadened guitar sdrum ? Thank you.

Hello, Mark! Great question, but that is beyond the SDRUM’s capabilities. It is designed to be paired with a guitar. You essentially create a kick/pattern by palm muting the high strings for the snare and the low strings for the kick. The groove can be tweaked with the parameters on the pedal from there. I would suggest there is a market for a drum machine or beat app that can learn from the distinct wave form of percussion in recorded music and auto-generate a drum loop that re-creates it. I would imagine that the regular peaks that percussion makes in the wave form would make it pretty easy for an algorithm to differentiate from the rest of it. Thanks again!

How would you program this to play a beat like this BASS drum on 1-2-3-4 SNARE only on 2 & 4? With the Bass & Snare drum at the SAME TIME on beats 2 & 4? Cheers!

great thing about this is the mono/stereo out to mixer and the guitar in and out to amp so you're not playing everything into the amp or mixer

Hi, Prasad. Thanks for reaching out! The only time signatures in the SDRUM pedal are 4/4 and 3/4. Unfortunately it won't do anything more complicated than those. For anything more than that, I would check out the Trio Plus pedal. That will create drum parts around anything you play so if you record a loop in 7/8 time, it will play along with you. I don’t know anyone who has tested this with a keyboard yet, but the manual mentions that you can use other instruments beyond just guitar or bass. I’m sure it would work to varying degrees depending on the preset and style you’re playing in, but their focus functionally is with guitar and bass. I hope this helps! The SDRUM works off strum transients that typically aren't part of pedal steel phrasing with all the swells and slurs. The product is discontinued, fyi. And how do you locate the preset you just saved? Do you have to a scroll blindly and listen? Also, you didn’t show how you use the verse, chorus, bridge parts. I’m assuming hitting the foot switch can do it, or do you have to buy the external foot switch?

This thing is not intuitive. It is finicky and has a lot of issues. It sometimes stays in "learn" mode. So, you have to unplug it and wait a bit then plug it back in. The beats you create or "teach" it is not what it plays. I would not recommend this for live gigs. Practice might be okay. But, with all its weird quirks I would not rely on it for live performances. The idea is good, but it was a very flawed execution. I am actually having buyers remorse after trying to get this thing to work right for the past week...

I own the Beat Buddy and the Sdrum. Both are brilliant. I can tell you that the Sdrum is well worth the money and is so simple and intuitive. I use it live all the time whereas I only use the Beat Buddy at home. The Beat Buddy requires you to have everything ready to go on an SD card. The Sdrum allows to just come up with a beat and go. So easy

'Online Owners Manual' ...err, no thanks. I want a manufacturer that takes the effort to give me a simple to use booklet manual included in the box with the device. Like BOSS does
