Nice video. The Einstar is so cool! I think we've only scratched the surface for the uses of 3D scanning. Mahalo for sharing! : )

Awesome stuff, Dave! It was great seeing this thing in action. Blown away that little thing can provide so much detail so fast. Amazing technology!

Annoyingly didn't hit comment I guess earlier. How does this compare to the pro 2x or 2x plus for more engineering style projects? This is like, exactly what I've been wanting for years now, a properly affordable scanner, but aside from being .1mm accuracy vs .05 and scanning speed, I'm not sure how else it's limited compared to the higher end models. The software is probably cut down a lot too, not sure if you aren't able to pull measurements from it, or if there's a max object size, that sort of thing. If it is meant more for scanning people, maybe saving up and getting the higher end one is what I should do since I am definitely more interested in reverse engineering type projects.

I want to see more of the full-color scans. My father-in-law has been cataloging his collection of jade pieces and I'm wondering if this is a tool that would serve him well.

Yes, this scanner does show the color over your scans. There are some samples you can look at on visionminer.com look under the page for the einstar.

Hey Dave, I created a nonprofit in augusta, Georgia where we scan and 3d print the faces of visually impaired people and their families to create 3D printed family portraits. I was wondering if you'd like to help us with this project?

@@3ddiy Cool, Cool. I'd love to see the color info on the model. I'm just wondering why you didnt present it in your demo. The base mesh is cool looking but would have liked to see the model with the texture map.

@@thejetshowlive I chose not to show the color texture as sometimes that’s provides a false sense of detail in the physical scan. You think things were captured when in fact it was only color on the texture. The texture is more important for digital use or colored pigmented printing. Which doesn’t really apply for my use. Don’t get me wrong the texture is super cool. But wanted people to see the actual physical scan quality.

Hello Dave - this is a really exciting product. Can Einstar create scans od small objects - like coins, jewelry, or pottery shards? Can you recommend a product useful for scanning small objects?
@3ddiy
@3ddiy Год назад
It can to a degree. I would say Einstar is a more all around scanner that can scan most things fairly well. If you're going to be scanning small objects for the majority of the time. Its better if you get a scanner dedicated to small objects. Generally ones that come with a table. Thunk3D has a very interesting jewelry scanner. that is very detailed. It is expensive but thats pretty much how much an average 3D scanner costs thats good. The Einstar is an entry level scanner and it does perform extremely well for the price. But not sure it be good for jewelry right out of the box. I suppose if you rig up some kind of tripod for it and made your own turn table and scanned on the height setting you can get better results. But the detail would be subjective to your use case.

another option that might be good is einscan sp and SE. never tried it but worth looking into.

Oh man. Once I loose a couple(20ish) more pounds I’d love to be scanned. 😂
