Digitone, or any other Electron device for that sake is to advanced for me and I know this would be pearls before swine on me and make me mostly frustrated. But I still find this out of all of them the most intriguing and looks like so much fun for people who know what they are doing. I am so impressed by people who can use this and make really nice stuff on it, like here in this video.

never pearls before swine as long as you as you have fun - and I think Elektrons are great beginner instruments as you have the perfect implication of the sequencer that let you create very quick melodies - maybe try (a cheap mk1) Analog 4 as it has the more classic voice structure (and a separate mini keyboard that helped me a lot in the beginning)

This has become my favorite series on your channel. I really like your pacing and the balance you've found between sound design instruction and demo. I also really love driving harmonic-rich sounds through the filter/filter envelope, and seeing which sounds are able to trickle out when the depth and cutoff are manipulated. This synth is crazy powerful and feels like it has a life of its own. Thanks for the amazing video man!

I’ve recently rediscovered my pasta based Digitone, I always enjoyed it but would without fail paint myself in to a corner sound design wise because I didn’t understand the carrier relationships and how to use things with a little more subtlety. A few weeks ago I spent a weekend in Cadiz and it’s all I had with me, i fell in love again. Great video as always ✌️

Liked at "160 bpm". As for Probability vs Conditional Trig. Prob applies to whole track, Conditional is on the trig only (as you know). So setting track probability to 50% would be the same as applying 50% cond to every trig. Just a whole lot easier. A cool trick is setting Probability to something low but forcing 100% conditional trig to ensure you have some stability in your track.

So I have a very bad case of ongoing GASitus, it started about two years ago. During that time I’ve bought and sold a few synths a few times, OP-Z and the Digitone (never really lost money on them as always second hand). Tonight will be the third time I’m buying the digitone. I’ve had fun exploring a multitude of other stand alone synths, grooveboxes and such, but the Digitone is the only one I really truly felt bad about letting go of. This time it will be kept until I no longer exist. It really is something a bit special and I believe there is nothing out there like it. Jeremy, you’ve sold it to me once again! Great piece and inspiring as usual!

@ToyKeeper
@ToyKeeper 2 года назад
I think Digitone is probably the best instrument Elektron has made so far. It's a fantastic and deep soundscape creation tool which has the ability to automatically generate nice-sounding tones via harmonics and algorithmic timbre changes. It does the math for you so you can focus on the overall feeling. Each pattern is a complex multipatch similar to what the Wavestate does, but with a much nicer interface. All it needs to be complete is an external multitrack sequencer, along the lines of a NDLR.

Your comment on the digitone being about having it's sounds reveal facets over time really struck me. I have had it for over a year now and have been having a bit of trouble with it, and I think it is because I have been making sounds that are too static. I usually use it without a midi keyboard and without velocity sensitive buttons it can be easy to make things without a lot of dynamics. I think I need to do a deep dive on the lfos as you put them to amazing use here.

I’d recommend playing with the velocity mod settings. Pro tip- the fastest way to get to that setting in the menu is func+down (x2) then down one more time. From there you can use the velocity parameter (trig page) as a p-lock for 4 parameters at once. But you’ll probably need to adjust the velocity>volume curve higher up in that menu

While watching this, I kept thinking of the benefits of starting without a drumbeat--I've always done best when I do drums last, probably because it forces me out of old habits. The Pulsar-23 pairs really well with the Digitone, although chaos can ensue.

Sounds really good! What happens if you hook this pattern/multipatch up to an external sequencer where you could give it different chords and melodies, then switch between those while control-all-ing the timbres? I'm picturing tracks 1-3 driven by a Digitakt or something, with track 4 either improvised on a keyboard or voice-to-midi'd in from a Dubler so you can keep your hands free for chord-pattern changes and control-all adjustments.

Why is the digitone not behaving the same way based on where the notes are written from? Any suggestions? thanks!

My assumption is that your midi controller is set to a different track than the one you're actually modifying. Midi channels 1-4 correspond to track 1-4 and 10 is the auto channel (always plays the selected track) iirc.
