The Nokia comparison to the original Adventure digivice design is solid. They were popular at that time and took a good beating. Almost all devices aside from pagers had antennas at that time. The design of the Adventure OG digivice is clearly attempting at blending the aesthetics of a late 1990's Nokia phone and the ever popular pager from the same era. Hence the clip on the back, which deviates from the more Tamagotchi-style brick vpet devices of the late 1990s that used a chain clip. The sleek design of the reboot is nice and reflects modern day trends, while still manages to call back to the OG design of 1999. It's also quite similar to the D-ark in some ways. I could see future digivices go two ways: either a wrist device much like the Fitbit-like device coming out later this year (also reminiscent of the original manga digivice C'mon Digimon), or a more retro-style much like the revival of vinyl records (imagine a digivice that resembles what 19th century people thought mobile phones would look like).
Mine just showed up yesterday and I gotta say, I'm not overly impressed with this one. The speaker is way too loud. I live in an apartment and there's no doubt my neighbours can hear the many beeps and boops. Playing muted gets old fast since there's not much going on with the device, so I've resorted to covering the speaker with electrical tape. I'm glad I have one since I'm really enjoying the new series but it's really just a giant plastic brick with very little going on in the gameplay department.
This is my first digivice and I gotta say I wish it wasn't so fat. I was planning on taking it to work to train my digimon but this thing is uncomfortable inside of a pocket. And I don't want the screen scratched by having it in my backpack.
I must say when this Digivice was first shown off in the Digimon Product showcase a year ago, I thought it might be revolutionary. Something about the bulky yet futuristic design made me think that it might be a Digivice with a colored screen and internet connectivity and a ton of other features. Something that would revolutionize Digimon. Turns out that idea ended up being the Vital Bracelet, while the 2020 Digivice ended up being less than standard compared to previous models. I mean, no connectors for battling with others? Seriously?
Not planning on selling any of my collection anytime soon sadly. The X's should be getting an English release so just wait out and we should get the X2
This digivice don't need the egg armors anymore or this digivice surpass the season 2 digivice because season two used two digivices to make a armor digivolve here they need only this digivice
Funny thing about Digimon Adventure 2020: The eight kids and Digimon partners are WAY stronger than they ever were in the original anime. Here, the Armor evolutions are treated more as alternative forms than anything else. Which is amazing, to say the least. So I wouldn't say they need a D-Terminal, but that there's no need for it because the Digimentals don't even exist. Meaning that if Ken and Daisuke were in the 2020 reboot, they'd likely have no problems using the full power of their crests. Iori and Miyako though, would be outta luck.
