Honestly, probably going to take apart my Koma deck to make a deck for this guy since that deck has all the stuff that this guy wants. Sakashima, Spark Double, Helm of the Host, Kindred Discovery, all my best blue counter spells and card draw.
@@SHALESONS right ? It’s dope, Like constant black sun zenith that doesn’t hit your own creatives. There aren’t many things that give counters to everything at the same time.
Toxril, Sludge Monster, and Conjurer's Closet (or any other repeatable Flicker) is effectively a repeatable board wipe. With Sludge Monster, non-horrors with Slime counters are 2/2s, and everything gets a Slime Counter when it enters the battlefield. With Conjurer's Closet, you can Flicker a creature on your end step for free. And with Toxril, everything your opponent controls with a Slime counter gets -1/-1 and they get a counter every end step. Even if your opponents kill Toxril on their turns to prevent his counters (since Toxril and Sludge Monster alone are basically a constant, slow board wipe), you just need your end step to give them a counter and to flicker Sludge Monster. Or even just attack with Sludge Monster and then flicker to kill everything. Or copy Sludge Monster for the ETB to keep triggering (keep the copies long enough and you can even attack with two for a board wipe). Such a powerful combo, even more so outside of Commander. Almost wondering if something might get banned pretty quickly...
Regarding sefris he mentions at the end. This wont work due to tokens not actually counting as 'cards' even though yes tokens do technically enter the graveyard briefly. Though toxrill still is a nice big boi to reanimate :)
I love the flavor of this card! It reminds me of a creature feature Sci Fi Monster! This is the type of blue black commander that speaks to me. Gotta love the big creatures.
Might be good in the 99 of Volrath the shapestealer, since he can clone anything that has a slime counter. Which would be all of your opponents' things if toxrill makes it to an end step
HE SLICES, HE DICES, HE DRAWS YOU CARDS! This little slug does everything you need for the low low price of ˢᵉᵛᵉⁿ ᵐᵃⁿᵃ I'm gonna be real, I don't see many people playing this commander. It's a good thing he makes counters at the end of every turn because I doubt you'll get even one turn cycle before he gets salted.
Unfortunately Toxrill slugs wouldn't trigger Sefris because they are tokens, and Sefris only cares about creature *cards* entering the graveyard. But she would still be cool as a reanimation target for mass removal and slug armies :)
I really want a deck built around this, but the mana cost is pretty high so my buddy would probably already have his deck up and running before I can get Toxrill or Sludge Monster out
@@MatthewCJoy Lots of Eldrazi Spawn/Scion token synergies, and a healthy amount of aristocratic interruption of the opponent's game plan. Ideally get Vela out in the mid-late game and swing with all the colorless bodies for lethal. Still in Beta, but I think I have something that is both fun and thematic, which warms my Vorthos heart.
@@bobbycallaway1819 I agree it seems very fun and thematic. Even the commander is a clever nod to some the detective characters from some of lovecrafts stories . A+ my guy, thanks for sharing. :)
I was surprised that you don’t mention the combo with the 6/6 flying Demon that you can copy each end of turn when you sacrifice the 1/1 slugs to release the full potentional nightmare 😈
Unbudget combo: Kormus Bell + Urborg. No lands for anyone but you. Id also but stuff like nest of scarabs, crumbling ashes, and bloatfly infestation. To capitalize on the -1/-1 counters.
So I am putting together an Eloise, Nephila Sleuth deck and needed a little something like this card where it can be a beater but also has sacrifice synergy. I am actually going with a Living End style and this is going to be nice to help clear out my opponents stuff.
I have made a Toxrill deck and can confirm if it does not get removed you have total control over the board. So long as you have the spells to keep yourself ahead.
*Hears evil cackling and ominous hissing coming from the cupboard where her Gothic Horror deck is kept* ........... I think I know where this card is going.
That's cool, but can we get some better white and then red cards, WotC? I swear, black and blue is really getting pushed lately, and then of course, Green. It's getting less fun to play against.
Wait am I missing something here? I am new to this so that's certainly possible, but how can you have Sludge Monster in your deck if your commander is mono black? Edit: Oh, does a mana cost in an activated ability contribute toward a creature's colour identity?
If the tox is your commander how are you able to play sludge monster ? Doesnt tox lock you into just black since he’s not multi colored ? (New player here)
i'm thinking Volrath the shapestealer, constant counters on anything coming in on opponents' fields mean plenty of targets for volrath to copy, and if toxrill is on the battlefield then its a pretty safe bet that volrath will be bigger than anything he is copying
hmmm ok, i like this a lot! seriously considering building a deck around it. or building sakashima+tymna to play this and elesh norn in the 99. imagine how beautiful!
“Toxrill is a 7 mana commander” Jeweled Lotus, Dark Ritual, Mana Vault, Sol Ring, Mana Crypt, Cabal Ritual, Culling the Weak, etc etc: “And I took that personally”. Its Black, pretty easy to get Toxrill out Turn 1/2 and deny everyone else mana dorks for the rest of the game.
I misread it at first and thought it was only your endstep. "hmm yeah, I guess it's powerful, but it doesn't seem too broken" Then when mitch pointed it out I realized.
Well, thankfully now I've got a new dimir commander for historic brawl that isn't ashiok, xanathar, or the fucking scarab God. This looks really fun to play, big value but not try hard enough to put you against golos and kinnan every game.
I immediately liked it a lot, I can’t wait to use it as a commander. thanks for your videos, you are very fast to publish them and are always interesting and useful. love your content!
If toxrill puts a slime counter on a 1/1 with a death trigger whilest sludge monster is out. does it lose all abilities before the state based check kills it?
I'd assume that since sludge monster says it loses all abilities when it gets a slime counter that the creature would lose its death trigger ability before it dies.
I plan on using toughness manipulators like polymorphist's jest, mass diminish, sudden spoiling, and vedalken humiliator with all the rocks I'll need for a 7 drop
I have logged in to comment I really appreciated you've said Badabim Badaboom. I knew deep down today something was amiss, thanks to you I'll have a mich more productive day. # Raises coffee mug for appreciation.
Yes in that Horobi lets you kill things easier to trigger Toxrill to make slug tokens. No in that Toxrill does not target, and won't trigger Horobi on its own.
Can anyone explain how to have toxrill (mono black) be my commander with blue cards in the 99 of the deck? I was under the impression your lands and spells you have in the deck have to have your commander's color identity. Really want to cause some saltiness at game night with this but it's a mono black commander not dimir
Me and my friends opened a Crimson Vow prerelease each and made some decks out of them... If it weren't for my Hullbreaker Horror bouncing Toxrill at every possible moment, that Toxrill would have destroyed everyone
This commander is as nasty as the videos of putting my feet into food such as KFC. I am in lovvvvve!! Thank you Mitch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Perhaps a future episode might encompass using this guy in a Muldrotha deck somehow? Zombies perhaps?
Hi i have a Question: If i controll Toxrill and Tombstone Stairwell. My oppenend have do sacrifce the zombie tokens created by the Tombstone Stairwell at the beginning of the end step. Could i first put slime counter on it with Toxrill so the dying triggers Toxrill?
I believe… since you control both permanents that are triggering at the same time, you may place them on the stack in any order you desire. Have the slime counter resolve first so that the Zombies are then sacrificed with slime counters on them. Great interaction!
Oh God if you clone it, you get 2 slime counters each creature thats not yours and then they'd each get -2/-2 per slime counter because you have two of them boys
I think I could actually really enjoy building a Toxrill deck. I'm going to confess, at first I saw it, said cool, and was then a bit disappointed that it was mono-Black. Then I looked a bit more closely, saw that Blue pip in the last ability, and was a lot happier. Yeah, there's some good, nasty stuff to put with this.
@@Sorcerers_stash false? The card doesn’t say creatures you don’t control have -1/-1 for each slime counter on it? It doesn’t say -1/-1 counter on each creature you don’t control
Rulings on the Gatherer website: doesn’t matter how many -1/-1 counters were on the creature when it was put into a graveyard from the battlefield, as long as it had at least one.
@@jindo4849 What im saying is read the slime. It says put a slime counter on creatures you dont control. Each creature gets -1/-1 for each slime counter on those creatures. Those creatures do NOT have -1/-1 counters on them. Necroskitter does not trigger
I havent won with him yet in paper magic because I just cant keep up with 3v1 removals but I've came close quite a few times. I feel like hes going to snowball as a played commander
