Sean Casey He sings beautifully!!! Give a listen to his Ballad of big nothing cover here on RU-vid. Him taking over on the bass and getting more involved into the songwriting it’s one of the best things to happen to diiv.
Seba Atreides Yup I’m with you. Devin was solid but he also had a big mouth on social networks and Colin it’s an awesome singer and songwriter so he adds up a lot to DIIV.
"It's gonna rain , build a boat" Noah's Ark Reference But also means "Trouble is coming, prepare yourself" That's why the chorus is " im just waiting for the storm to die out" referencing waiting for the trouble to end
On and on, the clock was wrong You've been numb so long His words, they lapped an endless rote It's gonna rain, build a boat On masterstrokes of ebb and flow Down the drain the current flows All along the alpenglow It seems my pain was self-imposed I'm just waiting for the storm to die out, out I'm just waiting for the storm to die out I'm just waiting for the storm to die On and on, in memory You'll have my company Mountain building, anodynes Both in handfuls at a time I asked the trees why they grow They said, "It's all we know" I apologize to all I see For everything I used to be On and on, the clock was slow Down the drain, we surely know How to drink the oceans up Better start with a cup I'm just waiting for the storm to die out
I think it's about life and how life is an ocean and we're just people and it's impossible to drink the entire ocean without dying, it's impossible to enjoy life to the "maximum". So it's up to you to know what you want to make of it. Since you can't drink the ocean, so better build a boat to snow on it and not be afraid of the storm, otherwise you'll never leave the place and just watch the chaos to your death. [You can't drink the ocean, so you're better off surfing it than trying to stop it from flooding you]
Really like that analysis. I personally resonate with "how to drink the oceans up, best start with a cup". To me it represents the start to a long journey, whether it be from something terrible or to something better. Only way is to start small and build from there. And with Coles addiction background, it makes sense. Addiction is one hell of a mountain to climb
It happens everytime, bands change, I mean, I miss the Oshin era too, but this album it's amazing, quite hard to listen the first time 'cause it's completely different from Oshin or Is the Is are, kinda heavy, MBV style, but that's music, it's always changing
