I like how you don´t see the whole picture. The album together is the craziest every, and as Mr. Sharone says : Packed with many dimensions. I also think that it´s nice that they actually evolves and change, cuze if i wanted it too be harder, i could just listen to any other album. Now there is a new view of DEP:s world that i find very intresting to look at.
Dillenger always have great drummers. Which makes they fun to listen to. I don't listen to this band to hear every album and hope it was like the last. Its always new. Which makes them more solid.
that's true.. change can be good, even if old was very nice :D people should be open, and after listening to their new songs, you can make a decision whether you like Gil or not :)
damn man, sharone sounds freakin awesome!! admittedly, its sad to see pennie go, but coheed's still a pretty sweet band so at least his talent won't be wasted. Sharone's beats sound wicked, so i reckon DEP still has it comin with this new album
Yeah! I bought it. There's a lot to take away from it. I like the dynamic build up into that HUGE riff that I'm still trying to count in "Panasonic youth," but I think "We are the storm" is my favorite, and I love the funk in that song. I still have a lot of listening and figuring to do.
Pennie is the reason I fell in love with this band, the only reason I really bothered trying to understand the music or anything. There is a special place for him in my heart. Gil has some good chops too, but I am still gonna miss Pennie. He seemed like such a funny nice guy lol, almost always smiling.
Hey Robitussin217~ Good post, man As far as refuting goes I would offer the 2002 full length, Miss Machine. Its got all the harmonic variationa n riff/feel expansion. These guys are admittedly incredibly hard to digest but i assure you theres hooking patterns and innovative polyrhythms- Cool once ya get by the treble
lol your da vinci reference was excellent. you're absolutely right. bands grow up. they expand their horizons. if they stayed inside their comfort zone, i feel any band would get tired of the same repetitive stuff. dillinger fuckin rocks and their new stuff is different, but equally just as great.
Dillinger Fucking Rules! And I'm already thoroughly impressed by Gil. Love the Hat. And btw, just because it's not melodic doesn't mean its not revolutionary. Stravinsky did basically the same thing with orchestral music in 1913 and people still can't handle it. Open your minds to dissonance people!
The rumour is that Pennie is drumming for Coheed and Cambria now, which is awesome but it's a real shame to see him leave DEP. One of my favourite gig memories is of Pennis breaking his snare drum after one song!
Just got to say that you comment was one of the best I ever read. I couldn't agree more. The thing about Dillinger isn't whos in it, it's about growing and experiment as a band.. They said it themselves. So I just hope that this last a bit longer than the previous line-up's because this material and line-up is a fucking beast comming to rape our ear-pussys up!
btw dream theater, opeth, (I know i'll be getting a lot of hate comments for this but whatever)coheed and cambria, Between the buried and me, yes, rush, king crimson, the mars volta, porcupine tree, megadeth, kansas, maiden, old genesis, camel, deep purple, angra and mostly every prog band rules! :)
I think people don't take criticism seriously, especially about something they like, if you don't offer the reasons why you don't like it. I really like that whole thone, tritone sound with complex time signatures, and short motivic ideas. What I criticise is it gets monotonous. There's not a lot of harmonic variation from the little that I've heard and I'm open to refute. I can only take so much nonfunctional harmony and I'd like to see the short motivic ideas expanded.
people say what makes coheed better is the fact that they have better song writing quality. listen to ire works, best songwriting dillinger has to date in my opinion. but if i had to chose, it would be musicianship over song writing anyday...dillinger!
I've been listening to Dillinger since 2003 2003, I got into them through Under The Running Board and Calculating Infinity. I'm all for bands going out and trying new shit, i love progressive shit, but they raved this was going to be their "best and craziest record ever" and with songs like black bubblegum, i find it hard to agree its their craziest and most chaotic record ever, because its not. It pisses me off when kids who saw Unretrofied on MTV try to tell me what to think of this band.
I really think this album is going to be great although there are a different drummer and only one guitar. I say: Sharone is amazing!. But why did Chris leave the band?
i agree ive seen them through the first singer who i loved and dint like greg at first but he grew on me. after miss machine i was like neh, i'll stick to their old stuff. i dont like singing in my crazy music. mostly devin townsend is the one exception
of course he can brother, new dillinger is way more complex than old. it may seem more difficult, but it isn't... Besides, do you think these guys would've even consider him if he couln't nail, calculating stuff?
"Ire Works" HAS to be amazing! Especially when the new Ion Dissonace CD was a big dissapointment :/ And yeah, Throne1607, we get that the progression of art is just too much for you.
hahaha, cos they're so different after all... Seriously, I can only assume you have no musical know how because, technically, the dillinger escape plan are incredible
DEP is a great band, I really ain't a fan as I'm just getting to know them (and personally I don't like all the screaming!), but they're great, they do have a lot of technique which is great. I guess it's just stupid criticising bands, if you just don't like them (except rap and hip hop!), especially this one, 'cause maybe it's not ur music taste, but you can't say they ain't good musicians.
this new drummer seems to deliver, but the new song didnt impress me much, felt like it lacked the " nervous " or sudden moves of DEP, maybe it was just the bad quality of sound taking over
why, calculating infinity was a groundbreaking record. nothing had been done like that. now dillinger just sounds like nine inch nails with blast beats
lol. yea i agree. well top this. and try this on for a size... my musical range consists of anything from ambient soundscapes to the rolling stones to glassjaw to meshuggah. beat that peoples. word up. i straight up own all kinds of homosapian ass.
I have to disagree with the "Pennie Impersonation"; if you could imagine what Chris WOULD have played on Ire Works, I don't think it would be anyting close to what Gil put down. Also, ANY drummer taking on the DEP gig would HAVE to sound like a "Pennie Imposter". Other than that, I think Gil put more funk, groove, and spice into the band; too bad I don't think he'll join the band permanetly.
by sound quality i was referring to the qulity in myspace, from what i've heard of this new album, there are some killer tracks and some very poor, like being sick on sundae or waht ever thats called like.
There is no way C&C are a better band than DEP. DEP are about 5 times the band C&C will ever be. The musicallity, technical approach, stlye and accuracy are WAY more advanced than anything C&C have made
lol... how is new stuff more complex? i can play some new stuff on drums...couldn't say that for old stuff though..old stuff is wayyyyyyy more technical.... (ie. " Clip The Appex....")
Ire works is not a bad album, but it´s the worst of all. If DEP lost fans with miss machine, with Ire works could be worse. I´ll always hear this band, but WTF songs like Black bubblegum should never exist in a band like DEP. The rest of the album is good and smoetimes too much strange. This album it could have been better
