Dillon xl650 primer disc issues seater assembly issues ***Solved*** New Arm and Spring

I'm having problems with my dillon xl650. When hand thread the eater assembly it makes the seating head protrude to far and has worn a groove to the underside of the rotary primer disc.
I believe this is what is making the primer disc not turn properly. Perhaps the groove underneath is preventing the disc detent ball from locating.
**Update - This problem was solved when Dillon sent me free of charge a new arm and spring.** Thank you Dillon for standing by your product.

Might I just say that when I called Dillon about this issue they were extremely helpful and respectful and knowledgeable. I'm very glad that I went with a Dillon press because I've heard over and over about their amazing no BS warranty on their machine as long as it exists. They talked me through set up. And then they sent me replacement parts. Extremely happy and satisfied. Part of it was the way I had my setup. The other part was the primer seater spring. My replacements were all free. With free shipping.

You did the right thing & called Dillon! They will help you with any questions or issues you might have & will even send you parts if you need them! I absolutely love my XL650 & so glade I paid the extra $100 or so over the hornady lock n load. I have had only one issue with my Dillon press & that was 100% my fault. I called Dillon & they told me what was the cause & how to fix it. Hands down the best company I have ever dealt with! Awesomeness, Go Blue!

I'm glad I came across this video. I've experienced the same problem. But the groove you point out in the video is from the arm as it scrapes across the surface each time the disc advances. I even replaced the arm and spring, which helped a little, but my ultimate solution was to loosen the 2 allen bolts that hold the entire assembly onto the machine. The primer feed assembly jiggles, and that is the only thing that has helped me.

Sounds like the Primers might be dropping down the primer tube and turning. You have to try your best on holding the drop tube straight when pull the pin. Is it possible this is the issue. I don't think that the primer just turning in the wheel will flip them. Turn to make the issue happen and break down where the failure is. Side note. Dillion has heard it all before. You could run it by them.

I agree with loadmeister, Dillon goes way overboard on giving you help on their presses, just call and they will have you do certain things over the phone and go from there.....When they advertise a no BS warranty, they mean it, I have called several times, their great......

2) Whatever the primer disk is rubbing against should also show wear marks. In the video I can't say I see wear on the primer seater plunger. Where else do you see wear marks beside the primer disk? 3) Same problem with large and small primer setup?

this I because the advancement arm is bent, if you look at the arm (the part the spring is around) you can see a slight deformity, this is solved by calling Dillon and telling them the primer advance is not moving the wheel all the way. They will send you a new arm, 10 minutes, and you will be done replacing the part.

No offense, but you did ask Dillon for advice, right? They might get sad if they found out you took advice from strangers on the internet before consulting them. Warranty? But I am curious about your trouble and would like to ask a couple questions. 1) You said the head (the primer seater assy?) carved a groove in the BOTTOM your rotary primer disk. I see a groove in the top. Did you flip the primer disk over?

If you haven't already done this?? Your problem is the primer seater spring is weak or worn out this allows the plunger to not rest in a neutral position when advancing the disc, causing the primer disc to rub the plunger.

I have the opposite problem, If I tighten down the seater plug, the plug is to low, allowing the disc not to protrude, come to find out why, I had to physically take out the primmer seater and I found out that you had to tighten with a pair of needle-nose priers by turning the plug and spring until it was flush with the top. Then after about 1000 rounds of ammo, you had to do it all over again. It seems like there is know way to keep this animal tight no mater what you do. Dillon get your act together, would you please?

i am having problems with my xl 650 primer wheel jamming, with primers in it while i am trying to load they seem to get on an angle whilst in the wheel, when i index a case down it often crunches, does not seat that well.sometimes they go in sideways! And if i am not seating primers but inexing around the primers sometimes jam in the wheel without falling out into the little plastic tray like their suppose to..then of course the wheel stops. can anyone help.thanks

I'm late to the game and you've probably resolved this already, but I wonder how. Coming to the internet before contacting Dillon is insane. Sure, you might get a one in a million "this is the issue, and it's simple, here's what you do" reply--but probably not. CALL DILLON. Many posters below already said, they have a NO BS warranty and want nothing more than to make you happy. Spend some time on the phone. They'll either walk you through the fix, or send you the parts you need. Simple.

Mate, Not all Dillon users live in the same town or state as Dillon, other people for other country's use this machine too... putting it on youtube helps OTHER people as well.. its always good for reference.. In Australia Dillon warranty is a whole new ball game.. basically you can only get warranty from the place you brought it from, and if you buy second hand, be prepared to pay 1 freight, and 2 possibly the parts too.

And Dillion is OPEN 24/7? No. But youtube is there to help 24/7. A warranty does not help when you want to load and Dillin is not there...in addition, with the primer plate and problems, they told me is was out of spec CCI primers, and not their POS RF 100 primer filler that was the genisis of all my problems. Good on you Peter. Maybe you post can help me on a Saturday morning. Oh I just called "outside hours of operation" DOH.

I posted this video originally just so they could see what my problem was. But then I made it public because I thought it would help other people. Long time ago now, very amateur video.
