I highly recommend the DiMarzio Tone Zone in the bridge of strats which is also available in single coil spacing as the Tone Zone S. Great pickup. I have the full-sized classic Tone Zone in the bridge of a Squier and it works absolute magic on that ax. I've been using DiMarzios since 1985 and the Tone Zone since 1991 when it came out. Amazing pickup. I find that strats need beef in the bridge. It was never the strong spot of a strat, which is more known for the neck and 2 and 4 spots. With a good humbucker that splits well like a Tone Zone or PAF Pro you can have it all.
@@ericwalters5382 I find that it fills out thin, bright guitars. I would not put it in a dark, midheavy guitar like a Les Paul/Gibson, etc. Strat scale guitars made of alder, basswood, ash, poplar tend to work well with a Tone Zone. It also depends on the amp you are using. What amp were you using with the Tone Zone? I find that with bright, high gain amps the Tone Zone really shines. It's not everyone's cup of tea. I just prefer darker, thick lower mids in a pickup. It's just how I like to balance things out.
@@angusorvid8840 I am an amp collector. It would be easier to tell you what amps l Don't own. Dumble (waaaaay over hyped), Two Rock and PRS are 3 amp brands l don't own. Will have a Two Rock soon. Glad you're happy with your Tone Zone. I own many guitars & I've found that a pickup can sound horrible in one guitar & heavenly in another. The T. Z. sucked in them all.
Omg thanku so much for making this video brother and yes I'm with you on having a les paul on a desert island 🤘 I'm very suprised with the sound of these Dimarzios they sound huge obviously different from a les paul because it's a different guitar but omg the tone here kinda sounds like an early Van Halen style 😊
I agree on Duncans vs DiMarzio here. I find Duncans are often too trebly, too hot, and harsh, and this goes for their humbuckers as well. Yngwie had his best tone with DiMarzios. They sound the most strat-like of any stacked single coils I've ever heard and they have the right amount of output.
@@grables1965 Hi there, first of all great tone!. I'm looking for a bridge pup for my strat, I'm a high gain riffing player, a lot of palm mute riffs. I'm afraid install those h3 in the bridge, what do you think about them for what I'm looking for,?
Well just listen to yngwies playing using this pup from the 80s providing you have the right drive in front of it like the zoom pedals or so then it sounds great full of straty definition if thats the tone youre after?
I much prefer the yjm pickups at low volume! I need to pile on the gain when using dimarzios to shred. However yes the hs4 do have a sweeter rounded treble.
@@Officer_WF well spotted i put a switch in to put it on or off at anytime so i could have the bridge on and neck or all 3 together with 1 and 3 on and the pickup in reverse it sounds pretty cool!
Yes so my signal chain is zoom pd01 Hl01 tc flashbackx4 hall of fame into a Nad 320bee Hi fi amp which is solid state and runs out in stereo at 4ohms either side into 2 mojo 4x12 cabs loaded with Celestion G12H Speakers the amp sounds very good even though its not meant for guitar the treble and bass are at max - hope this helps!
@@grables1965 Thanks for the information and greetings from southern California! Brother, you are getting SERIOUS tone from your rig. I have 2 more questions if you don't mind me asking: Are you referring to G12H >Greenbacks< or a different Celestion speaker? And, what chorus are you using? DiMarzio HS series pickups are some of the best Strat pickups for rock. The HS-3 in the bridge is sweet as you've said, and to me it also has a beautiful angry snarl to it under gain.
@@johnnywomack548 Hi there take a look at my video of my system using a mic much better sound than on my Hs3 vid! Im using a boss Ch1 analog chorus in this video the amp is just a stereo Hi Fi amp by Nad320 bee speakers are G12h 30watt a cross between greenbacks and vintage 30s Glad your enjoyed the video!
I put an hs 3 in my bridge slot and if I've got too much gain cranked I get a high pitch feedback that could shatter crystal Does yours do that? Idk if it's an output issue on the pickup or if the install was bad Or some other third thing
Hi there do u get this whilst you are playing or just when u stop? If its when you stop and you have a n amp that is fully cranked then you need to put a noise gate in the internal loop to stop it - i always run my overdrive from pedals into a clean amp the zoom hl01 and pd01 will give you everything that you ever wished for!
@grables1965 I'm thinking now it's a microphonic issue, it picks up all kinds of background noises in addition to the high pitch feedback. And it does squeal while I play too, it's just quieter because of the natural compression
I once owned a Duncan 805 Overdrive and for some strange reason it did this i sent it back thinking it was faulty and got another one but it still did it until i tweaked the mid knob on it!
