here's a video of my custom tele (hard ash body, maple neck) with dimarzio super distortion t and air norton pickups. this video shows the bridge pickup on clean channel, and for rhythm guitar parts as well as lead parts. the neck pickup is only used on the 2nd solo. i will soon be making a playthrough video of these pickups, including series/parallel wiring.
song: Douchebag (original song)
amp: Ibanez TBX65R mic'd with Shure SM57

I just installed the Super Distortion T and they really are outstanding. I got caught up in the whole boutique, hand wound hype that cost double the Dimarzios cost and they are better. Never again, from now on I will buy Dimarzio.

I'm doing the same thing right now! Trying to convince myself that Lindys would be better, but I keep coming back to the different Super Distortion T demos on RU-vid. I'm thinking of pairing it with a Vintage Minibucker in the neck...

Dimarzio should pay you! I choose dimarzio instead of duncun for my tele just because of your video!

Nice playing and writing. I just ordered on of these for bridge of an affinity telecaster. The neck plays just fine but the bridge pick up sounds boxey. I usually keep this as a spare guitar I can carry about with me in the back of the car so I can pick it up whenever and don't get paranoid about it getting stolen or damaged. My normal strat and tele have single coils and I do not want to change them. However we are doing some Motorhead and single coils just don't cut the mustard. Be interesting to see if I can get adequate gigging quality with great pick ups on a cheap guitar. Gonna varnish the neck if it works - another shortcoming of the affinity.

My hats off to you- you'll probably get views bcuz nobody else thought to put a DSD in a tele. However, you've got what Billy Gibbons calls the " Butter Fingers"- you capture alot of the appropriate tone bcuz of your sick technique. It sounds pretty damn good, verging on epic. I can picture you with even better tones, but this def slays me! \m/

Hey dude ... it sounds awesome !!!! I have a tele I'm modding and was wondering if you used any capacitors n what kind or brand of pots.were.they.. Thanks for any help

kelly jamison I typically use CTS pots and Orange Drop caps. Would've been 500k pots and a .047uF cap on this guitar.

Is this a Sweet Child O' Mine cover somehow or is the solo at 1:22 just an accidental ripoff until about 1:30? Genuine question because I don't really know the chords of the song very well, so it could be intended as a beefed up cover. There is more similarity here and there throughout the song in the chord changes as well, such as around 2:26 with the muted chugging I expect Axl to start singing "mmmm where do we go now? Where do we go? Sweet Child... etc." as it does at the end of Sweet Child O' Mine.

Atacama Humanoid lol no, but I used to listen to Guns n Roses a lot so maybe it was subconciously inspired by that song. Definitely not a "ripoff" as there isn't really such a thing in music - you could probably find a song that came out before Sweet Child O Mine that sounds similar and claim that GnR ripped it off.

Well, that solo lick is extremely memorable and unique, so don't think I'm going to find that anywhere else. I hear what you're saying, but there definitely is plenty of ripping off in music. Most people say everyone steals from everyone and we agree that is acceptable in a vague way, but, of course there still is "ripping off" that most people find unacceptable. I wasn't accusing you of anything bad, just wondering if it was intentional. I haven't listened to that song since the late 80s and it stuck out like a sore thumb. Cool playing, btw. I just came to hear the pickups, but I dug the chops, too.

Atacama Humanoid yeah I would have to agree that there still is "ripping off" in music I suppose. I definitely take inspiration from all of my influences from over the years, and I definitely was a big fan of Guns n Roses for a while, so I'm sure that lick was inspired by that solo. I wrote this song with a band I had years ago now, so I don't know whether a GnR reference was intentional, but I do know I really like how that lick sounds over these chords changes in my song haha

***** I used to do some intentional nods in solos as somewhat of a joke, but I would usually copy the melody of another song's vocals only briefly to make some reference that was relevant to the subject matter of our band's song. So, a guitar copying a melody line of some vocals for a little bit is not going to be super obvious. In fact, nobody ever noticed til I'd point it out and then they'd always have a positive reaction like "holy shit!" I think subconsciously people might recognize it and like it, though. And I only did it if it was relevant to the lyrics of our song.

53K views & only 261 thumbs up? = real "douchebags". this is great. i finally put "Seth Lover" humbucker in the neck of my Tele & a SD hotrails in the bridge.....but this sounds better to me. think i'm gonna try the Dimarzio for the bridge.

blasphemy. Lol. I really prefer a punchy traditional twang tone on a tele. Love quarter pounder for tele. But that being said I guess I would like one with a great pickup for heavier things as well.
