He was exhausted by the time he finished. The previous round of competition got him 6th place and anyone in 7th was sent home, so he needed to up the ante and he poured everything into it. He collapsed on the sofa in the competitors’ viewing room - but he got another 1st place. He said in an interview that he feels he is first an actor who portrays, conveys, his emotions to the audience but using his voice. He does a good job of it. Adagio was the 6th performance of The Singer competition in China in 2017. The Singer is a show in China where only established singers are invited to perform. All the singers invited to this show are already well-known artists in China who have already won awards. Dimash was invited as the first foreigner as a wild card and the youngest in the history of this show. They became aware of him because he had already won some important competitions in Kazakhstan and Belarus, among others. He was still completely unknown in China. Actually, it was intended that he would only have 1 or 2 appearances. But it came completely different. When he woke up the next morning after his first performance of SOS he was a megastar in China and even found bodyguards outside his hotel room. SOS’ first video had 600 million views when it aired. He was just 22 years old at the time. Adagio is a really beautiful song❤️. A song that Lara Fabian (a Belgian-Canadian singer) has already sung and also written the lyrics for. Dimash has always been a great admirer of Lara. But Dimash takes this song to another level. Every time, I see this performance I get goosebumps and I forget to breathe. The emotions that Dimash sends out with this performance literally hit me physically every time🤯. And you can see that I’m not the only one. It speaks for itself that this performance leads to such emotions as that of this woman from the jury and even makes jury members cry. This is so emotional because he literally sang for survival as he was almost voted out on the last episode on Uptown Funk. That's why he had to give everything at Adagio. I love his outfit with his blue suit and white shoes. If you watch several videos of him, you will see that he often falls on his knees during many of his performances. So a Dear gave him knee pads as a gift. I don’t think he wore them on stage though. Although he has certainly gotten one or two bruises😂. Please react to another song from The Singer competition. I don’t think there are copyright issues, because the videos on this channel are already edited and there are English subtitles. I think you will appreciate the Bastau version even more if you’ve seen The Singer version before. This song tells a very sad but true story. You really have to watch this with subtitles. It’s really important to know what the song is about. You really have to know why he sings the way he sings. In the Singer version he was so sick and had a severe sore throat and fever. He lost his voice the night before his performance of Daybreak. I heard him say in an interview that it was very painful throughout the song, that his throat feels like shredded glass but he didn’t want to disappoint the people who stand behind him and so he pulled himself together and went on stage. He got 5 injections from this doctor in the hospital. And the doctor told him not to sing high notes. You can see how concerned the other competitors were and they suffered with him. They knew he was not doing well and one of them even gave him a very expensive Chinese medicine from his own inventory. The problem was his busy schedule between the performances and he didn’t have enough time to recover. After the performance he lost his voice again. The story is so sad and in this performance he was in such pain and performed anyway because he didn’t want to disappoint the audience. Both version were in the same year 2017. It’s unbelievable how he always manages to convey emotions to such a degree. Though I think in this one particular version the emotions he shows are mostly concern about his voice keeping up with the song and the pain he must have been in doing it. The Bastau version (no sore throat) of Daybreak is phenomenal and mind-blowing. So emotional and heartbreaking. Maybe you can do both together. With your love of Metal music and heavier percussion, I think Olympico should be your next choice. Choose the Live version from his Arnau Concert. Use captions as lyrics are amazing but sung in Italian. Another really amazing performance is Drunken Concubine and Diva Dance duet with Li Yugang. Look for one with english subtitles as it is sung in Mandarin. This is a cover of Lara Fabian's "Adagio", which itself is a reworking of the famous "Adagio" by Albinoni. It's been used in many great films over the years, but for me the use of it in the powerful Australian film, "Gallipoli" is heart-rending! Another stunning "Adagio" is the one by Samuel Barber for Strings.
This performance is from a Chinese show called “I Am Singer” which Dimash competed in and came runner up in 2017 aged 22. Other brilliant performances from this show that Dimash performed are SOS, Opera 2 (and this song Adagio) - he won these episodes; and Autumn Strong, Daybreak, Confessa/Diva Dance, Daididau and Unforgettable Day. Dimash also did a fantastic cover of Lionel Richie’s song “Hello” in the 2018 series of this show which is a must watch. 🙏🇦🇺
