He says that he went to war and they go to battle on foot without horses. And he thinks about sick and old parents and worries about how they are there, who will take care of them. He does not think about his death. He remembers his native places and loved ones.

I feel like Dimash’s musical perfection makes of him a virginal singer. He sings and does what he wants to sing and still moves large amount of audiences. Most singers can’t be honest with themselves and are “corrupted” by the market. Who else would sing a traditional ancient song about soldiers in such an unknown language in a room with 2 other musicians and still get people to tears? He does what he feels it has to be done and he manage it to pierce our hearts! He feels that this is his contribution to his homeland and he tooks it as seriously as a soldier heading to a world war!!! I feel that the world will end up singing the Kazajistán hymn by heart feeling it as his own anthem. As JFK said: “don’t ask what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country” That’s what he feels he has to do for his country and for its coming generations and let’s remember that Dimash has no LIMITS. Dimash is music in all its aspects, ranges, styles, scales… you name it!

The two-stringed instrument is the 'Dhombra." This song is about Kazakh men conscripted by Russia to fight in its wars ofc conquest. The instrumental part represents the sounds of wolves, supply wagons, etc., along the forced march.. Dimash wanted to memorialize the lives and anguish of those men. I think Dimash created an entirely new voice just for this powerful gesture of love for those men. What a SPLENDID reaction! I wouldn't have thought it possible for a reaction to enhance that incredible performance, but you DID, and I'm so grateful to you.

So you 100% get Dimash. And, that was clear even before you did this video. See this is what Dears love about Dimash. His ability to transcend all man defined boundaries of country, language, culture, race, religion. Dimash is fluent in the language of music and he can take a song and sing it though his heart emotionally and then transfer all that emotion directly into your soul....as if he is only singing to you. His ability to convey emotion in music is a conduit for soul to soul communication. Once you experience it, you really long to experience it again. Its the main reason we are all so attached to him. It's why we are so devoted and so protective over Dimash. He's one of a kind. A true musician. Brilliant in every since of the word. And hes a pure soul....human for sure, but pure none the less. Samaltau is told through the eyes of a young soldier lamenting about having to leave his homeland. It's a story actually that illustrates the injustice of foreign occupation. Kazakhstan is land that was long fought over as it lies between Russia, Mongolia, and China. In particular this song sings of being a young Kazakh man drafted to fight in far away lands for a foreign occupying army. And the sadness is that not only does he have to leave his homeland but he also has to leave behind his elderly parents to try to fend for themselves. He laments that he doesn't know what has befallen them in the last 16 years. Lyrics to Samaltau Mountain breeze Mountain breeze, my amazing country, my endless lake, What days await me as a soldier, You keep coming into my mind from time to time, My amazing homeland, where I was born and raised I wasn't riding, I was walking, Even slower than walking, Been strolling for 15 days In the direction of Omsk I'm at the age of two cycles, the year of the cow By the will of Fate, I went farther away Mountain breeze, my amazing country, you're left behind From the hollow field, we are the only ones I had parents, Of progressed age, Since this song was written, It's been 16 years.

Kazakh folk song In 1916, during the second year of Great War (World War I), the Russian Empire carried huge human and property losses. The burden of restocking was laid on subject nations. About 49 million hectares of fertile land were forcibly taken away during the war from Kazakhs. The owners were driven out into the barren wastes. Taxes increased form 3 to 15 times. For the needs of war, livestock and property were mass requisitioned. And finally it came to "requisition" of people. On 24th of June 1916, the Russian Tsar issued a decree that a half-million Central Asians, aged 19-43, were to be mobilised for army and labour brigades in the war effort. This decree was the spark for the Kazakh uprising, although the underlying reason was Russian colonisation and the usurpation of Kazakh lands. Song "Samal Tau" tells about this sad events for young Kazakh in this difficult time. The song is about young, about 28 year old (a little over 2 mushels = 2 dozens born in the year of the cow = 1889) recruit walking from Samal village (close to Shalkar lake in West-North Kazakhstan) to Omsk, as he was forced to register for the Russian military according to a decree predating the revolt by a few months. He was walking for 15 days and almost reached Omsk. Самал (Samal) - a gentle breeze, a mountain breeze, bearing the evening or morning cool. The word "samal" itself is associated with something pleasant, bearing enjoyment. Therefore, Kazakhs woman often have a female name Samal. тау (Tau) - mountain, hill.

Dimash singing in a little room with few musician and yet he brought us into different place one more time. I love that he is bringing traditional Kazakh instruments and introducing the culture. I never desire to watch any concert until Dimash came, hope he’ll come back in the US bea ice I told my husband we’re going whenever, wherever his concert in the US will be. Ancient time musics take all of uss and leave us that ancient times. The Shamanism and the Paganism connect with nature and world. So ancient musics catche us in our depths. Because not only humans, alt things have their souls. Like Dimash's country Kazakhistan, in many Turkish country in Asia and Turkey has their roots of Shamanism. And all we are connect with everything wth our souls. Indıans of America have this connect with nature too.

Thank you for your heartfelt reaction! Four years ago I never thought there would be a singer who could be in his home studio, sitting cross legged on a piano bench, wear a button down shirt and no shoes, with two musicians, three instruments and a sound board, that could take me on a journey to his homeland, and make me feel every note. I grew up with music, attending concerts of all kinds. My grandfather was a musician and published composer, my parents were singers, and musicians. I grew up listening to all genres of music, playing violin, piano, and singing...and then...the world of Dimash came into my life! I love my grandparents and parents, but I think they kept me sheltered from music all my life. LOL Blessings to you!

This video is for all the people who are trying to put Dimash down and who say that all he's got is some high notes. They clearly can't understand art, or there's something wrong with their sensitivity. He doesn't need extreme highs and lows, multiple genres, super complex songs, a stage or anything similar, just his voice and a few instruments. And he's sitting too. He's a genius, this is pure art. And his art has a purpose, he doesn't do it just for the sake of art. I was on the Tokyo Jazz Festival's live when he did this, it was such an experience hearing him sing in real time, and then talk. I got shivers once again, even if I had watched this multiple times. He's amazing, my favourite artist. Thanks for sharing this journey with us. You've got great sensitivity and taste in music.

The ones who try to put him down I call trolls - afflicted by the sickness of the green-eyed monster. For us dears - "forever will we love and he be fair" and the best, most passionate singer in the world.

For Dimash, this is the most difficult song to sing because of the story behind it. Samaltau means Mount Samal. The text is sad because it refers to the time when the Russians recruited young Kazakhs in 1916 and forced them to fight in the First World War. According to the text, a young man marching towards the battlefield ponders what awaits him and grieves at what will happen to his elderly and abandoned parents, who may not return alive. Along the way, he also thinks it will be the last time he sees his house and its beautiful mountains. For Dimash, family unity and love for her is one of the greatest things, so it's difficult to interpret. The Russian Tsar and the recruiters treated us like cattle (they didn't feed us, they kept us in unsanitary conditions). Therefore, of the 400,000 (Kazakh) soldiers recruited in the first few months, 150,000 died of disease and starvation. They didn't give us weapons, they fought with shovels against cannons and rifles. Of the 400,000 Kazakh soldiers, 300,000 drafted Kazakhs did not return home (the fate of the author of this song is unknown; perhaps he died in that war)- KOBYZ Kobyz is an ancient instrument used by sages and scholars to drive away evil spirits. Formerly its two strings were made of horsetail. Greetings from Germany.Thank you for your reactions to Dimash, who I love so much.Dimash crept into my heart when I heard the first note of him singing. He has incredible charisma and pulls me in every time. When I hear Dimash sing I feel like you.I cry at his songs which are so beautiful and yet so sad and at the same time I almost always get a heart attack when I hear his powerful voice. This voice makes me want more.I am like that Happy that there is RU-vid and you can listen to Dimash's songs here. I am now 65 years old and was born with a genetic defect and this disease does not stop, so unfortunately I have to live in a foster home because of this. I have I've never seen a concert live in my life and when I hear Dimash sing I'm sad for the first time that I can never watch a concert by him live.RU-vid is no consolation for me.I wish you all the best and stay Please keep it authentic in your reactions.

It’s a lament. A universal cry for the things we have lost. Dimash transcends the nationality or culture. He just takes us to the elemental sorrow humans endure.
