It was a contest in China for well established professional chinese singers. He was the first foreigner invited on to the show and stayed there until the very end. He was the runner up. They were all very supportive of him and he has made friends with some of the contestants - including Terry Lin. You have lots of interesting experiences ahead of you when you delve into his songs. I had covid in Nov last year and isolated for 23 days - so bored and lacking energy so I found that RU-vid had music videos and reactors (at 67 I never knew that!). So I discovered two acts that have fascinated and enthralled me with their music, passion, skill, attitude, humility, lyrics - they are Dimash and BTS. Totally different (though both delve into many genres) but also similar in their attitudes, approach, love for music and their fans, depth and thought into their lyrics - and with both I need subtitles...lol. So now I am flying 15000 km to see Dimash in Budapest and hope to join a tour to Seoul next year for BTS. So they have opened my eyes and my experiences in music and travel. Will enjoy watching your journey into Dimash - by the way he has just dropped his latest music video "When I Got You" a few days ago and it is amazing.

This show, "The Singer," out of China is much classier than the clone talent shows. The contestants are all professionals already, who were invited to compete. The audience decides their fate. There are no tacky auditions or rude reactions from judges. Top notch! And you'll see how the contestants respect each other even if they worry they can't compete with him. The show is from Beijing. This was my first performance by Dimash, too, almost 7 years ago. My favorite singer ever, but what I didn't expect was that he'd keep getting better and better, AND more inventive. All this on top of the pandemic, while still remaining humble, kind, and a world hero in humanitarian and peace-keeping efforts.

He made to finals and become second in that competition as rules of it did not allow to foreigner to win (rules were changed after that and he was invited as guest star next year)

This was the 2017 Season of the Chinese 'Singer" Competition, which I beleive is the bisggest most popular of it's type in China. The competition is not for new artists, but for already established Singers, and the audience is made up mostly of established Industry professionals. (So they are Tough Judges! } Dimash, ( here aged 23 - he is now almost 30 ) was invited on as a 'wild card' Guest Competitor from China's neighbour; Kazakhstan. He had already won every competition he'd been on in Eastern Europe, but was competely unknown in China. They gave him an enthusiastic and warm welcome for thier new 'guest' as he stepped on stage - but { Like YOU! } had no clue what they were about to witness... This was his 1st performance on Singer, of many subsequent in that season, and he blew everyone out of the water. You can see on the faces of his fellow competitors -back stage - that they realise they are 'Done'! Might as well pack up and go home! The night this 1st performance went to air - Chinese 'twitter' blew up' - and the next morning Dimash was shocked to learn he now needed a Security Detail for everywhere he went - which he didn't really quite believe until he stepped outside- to be mobbed by hordes of adoring new fans. So... It was absoultely clear, and became clearer still, as the season progressed, and Dimash's performances got better and better, who the Winner would be. So... just imagine the shock and fury of his, now millions of fans - when he Did NOT Win! 😲😡 { But that's a whole other whole story! }😆 # Flipping from this version of SOS - to his latest Music Video production - misses the stunning breadth of his talent and his whole progression til now. Reccomend you go back and see all his Singer performances, and then work forward since, in time.

Thank you thank you for your fantastic reaction to the wonderful Dimash. He is simply unsurpassed and has a depth of soul that is rare these days. All of the contestants had to be professional singers and required contracts. Dimash had to scramble to get a contract signed in China in order to compete. He delivers such an emotional overload, giving of all his love, his heart and his soul which he pours out onto us. Thank you for this great reaction. Your response mirrors my own, when I first heard it - I cried, and still tear up every time I see this !! Because his parents were both Professional singers, as a child, he loved toddling onto the stage during their bows - and bowed along with them. He loved the feeling of connection and love the audience gave. Thus he knew very early that he too wanted to be a singer someday. His parents supported this, and he began training at the age of five. He is known to practice three hours every day, thus he is a Master of his vocal chords. He calls his fans " Dears ", because they are as dear to him as family. He states that without them, he couldn't do what he loves to do. During European and Eastern concerts, the fans flood him with flowers. I've read that he gives those flowers to local Hospitals, to the elderly, and when possible, to his Mother !! Sweet guy !! If you truly want to experience Dimash, I would suggest you continue listening to his " I am singer" Chinese talent show performances. The next one being " Opera2 ".

Hi there, interesting, a reactor from Belgium… I am a Belgian Dear (Dimash calls his fans Dears, because they are dear to him like family). I have listened to him every day for the past few years. I have been to 4 of his concerts (Czechia, Kazakhstan, Armenia and Hong Kong), number 5 and 6 coming in May (Hungary and Turkey). He is absolutely unique. He can sing any octave, any dynamic, any type of song. This performance was at The Singer, a competition in China for established, already popular singers (so not like BGT/The Voice and others where unknown people can participate). He got second place because a Chinese person had have first place. They changed the rules as of the following year. To get an idea of his abilities and scope: react to: Adagio (same The Singer competition), Stranger (composed for him), Ave Maria (composed for him), Ikanaide Tokyo Jazz, Omir (composed BY him and he wrote the lyrics), El Amor En Ti (composed BY him), The Pearl Fisher’s Duet (with Placido Domingo) and his latest release When I’ve Got You (composed BY him). All very different, all sublime. Besides the unmatched vocals, he is also the most pure-hearted, genuine, down-to-earth, peace-promoting human being ❤. Dimash always leave everyone speechless. He was only 22 when he participated in the competition. Everyone else were already famous (much older) Chinese singers. He was the “wild card”. They had NO idea what they were in for 😂He has a long history with this song. There are several performances of this song on his page. ANYTHING you pick is a winner. I love it! This song is one of the most difficult songs to sing and made Dimash a mega-star overnight in 2017 (The Singer). The song comes from the famous Canadian-French rock opera 'Starmania' (1978) and is known in the English-speaking world as Tycoon (1995). That's how it all started: In 2017 Dimash received a wildcard for the “The Singer” competition in China. He was the youngest participant ever (22 years old). Foreign participants were actually forbidden at that time. The director ignored the ban, believing Dimash would only stay 1 or 2 episodes and then go home. This competition is not a talent show. Only professional, award-winning singers participate. Nobody knew or heard Dimash before and he had to start first ... and after his first song "SOS" Dimash captured the hearts of over 600 million viewers and a mega-star was born overnight.
