Kobyz is an ancient tool of the peoples who lived in the East, including nomads. It was used in ancient times by steppe shamans-healers for various rites. Kobyzy is made from a single piece of wood. This is one of the oldest ways of making musical instruments in the history of mankind. It is not due to technical backwardness or the lack of metal devices. According to the ancient beliefs of many peoples, only in a single piece will the living singing soul of the tree remain, which will sound in the instrument. The open body and strings of the kobyz from a bunch of 30-60 untwisted horse hair give a very thick, overtone-rich timbre.

So how did I come to love music??? My maternal grandmother was what i would call a "strong alto" preferring old Irish sounds and southern Gospel music. She could naturally hear harmony and was always harmonizing when music/singing was around her. My mother had a much softer sound but also sang alto in church choirs, small groups like women's trios... I knew when I was three that I was a singer. By age 11 I was singing in church choirs, and for about a year I studied classical singing. Always in school choirs, mixed groups, girls chorus..... I would say it was in my DNA and I just responded to it with great fervor. I am now 66 and was diagnosed with MS about 15 years ago, then about 4 years ago I was diagnosed with Lyme disease and I completely lost all of my musical abilities. I could no longer sing, harmonize, hear harmony, or match pitch. While I was so horribly ill, I found Pentatonix. This was while Avi was still with them, and I listened to them rabidly. Then I ran into Dimash on youtube and began listening to him. I also found Avi's solo work and it was a healing balm for me. A bit over a year ago, I found a couple of Medical Doctors who treat these diseases naturally with the food you eat and even though I am older now, I have begun to get my voice back...little by little.

Thank you so much for sharing this! And I'm certainly glad to hear that it's coming back to you. I've tried imagining what my life, well me specifically, would be like if I lost my ability to do what I love...even if I'm not a professional. I cringe at the thought and can't even really begin to imagine what you've gone through all around. I've always maintained that music is much more powerful than most people nowadays can begin to realize. Emotionally, physically, spiritually, and the list goes on. I did a couple papers in college on this very topic because I fully believe in it. Anyhow. I wish you the best and will keep you in my thoughts and prayers!

👉 Here is playing the best Kobys player in the world, Dimash’s friend Olzhas Qurmanbeck. 👉 The Kobys or Kobyz or Kylkobyz is an old Turkic stringed instrument, has two horsehair strings, the wooden sound box is covered with goatskin and is played with a bow. The Kobys is the oldest string instrument in the world and, according to a German scientist, it spread beyond the borders of the nomadic area of Central Asia and became the prototype of all European string instruments. (Turkic means: The Turkic peoples are a collection of ethnic groups from Central, East, North and West Asia as well as parts of Europe and North Africa who speak Turkic languages.) A legend about Kobyz says that this instrument was created by the great steppe narrator Korkyt-Ata, who lived in the 10th century and that the tool is charged with magical and even mystical properties and sounds like animal voices. In addition, the Kazakh people believed that the spirits of their ancestors spoke to them through this music. The old outlook and piety towards their instruments and music was constantly preserved in traditional Kazakh society and ensured the highest spiritual level of musical art and a special respectful attitude towards musical instruments. Simple people, for example, did not dare to touch the shaman's Kobyz. It is said: The balance between the courses of life and death on earth can be maintained by playing the Kobyz. (www.)🌼🇩🇪

👉 A Dear wrote: “These are the voices of the world singing the tragedy of human migration forced by tragic circumstances.” Another Dear: “Dimash is not only a singer, but a messenger of something very deep that has been lost in music lately ... Dimash invades our soul and never leaves it.” On August 19, 2021, for the first time the sound of kobyz was heard on the stage of the New Wave Hall in Sochi Olympic Park. The tandem of Igor Krutoy (piano) and Dimash Qudaibergen (voice) with the best Kobys player in the world Olzhas Qurmanbek, have presented a new, really unique song in English with enchanting oriental melodies. The idea to add kobyz to the new song came to Dimash after he first heard the melody "Stranger". He decided that the folk instrument would fit perfectly into the song, giving it an exciting sound. The performer of the kobyz part is Olzhas Kurmanbek. The music was created by Russian song-writer Igor Krutoy (musictitan, billionaire), and the lyrics were written by Mary Sharon Vaughn (*1947, is an American musician, songwriter and producer. She writes hits for famous singers around the world) The main arrangement was made by Dimitris Kontopoulos (Greece) and Yerlan Bekchurin (Kazakhstan). “It was Dimash’s talent that inspired me to write this song, his immense vocal abilities and his desire to sing for a large international audience. Franky, I don’t see anyone else who could perform this piece in such a way”, - Krutoy said. (Source: Dimashnews) 👉 Backstage-video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_DvqYXsMOAw.html 👉 The New Wave’s story started in 2002, and for many years it has been one of the most iconic music events not only in Russia, but for the entire world. The television audience of the New Wave covers more than 200 million people. In this year’s finale, 11 participants from 9 countries will fight for the grand prize of modern pop music. In 2021 Dimash took part at the New Wave as a guest and juror. In 2018 Dimash was was invited as a guest for the first time in 2018 by Igor Krutoy. Thanks for sharing. I really wish I had gotten into singing as early as I did my sax. Buuuut, like many young boys, I thought singing was for girls lol. I was a drama kid (you'd never know that by how I portray myself nowadays) and had a singing line in one of the plays. Our school's choir director hounded me for about a year before I finally caved. From there did regular choir and show choir. Really realy wish I hadn't waited so long.

Watch him singing Unforgettable Day in Gakku, China. This specific performance. He reaches a D8 stronger than 10 Mariahs. Lol. He simply has no limits. He repeats an incredibly powerful whistle register in a duo with Li Yugang. This duo btw, mixes the classic European operatic style of singing with the traditional Peking Opera style.... with modern pop. It's mindblowing.

Sorry to hear that, but glad you're working through it and found the inspiration to do so. My uncle was (still is really) like a mini-Elvis and covered most of his music at various venues. Following a couple strokes he wasn't able to perform and had to do speech therapy for quite some time. I'm happy to report though that he's back at it and even pulled off a nice rendition of Ave Maria fairly recently. Keep at it and I wish you the best! Thanks for sharing this.

All of the 2017 Singer songs are worth watching. Then, for variety, try Drunken Concubine + Diva Dance (duet with Li Yugang, show his vocal fry) , Confessa + Diva Dance ( Mandarin, Italian and Alien lol), and for Kazakh songs, you will love Samaltau Tokyo Jazz version, and Aida+ Daididau ( 100 Kazakh men playing the dombra, and then Dimash plays it too), Keili Meiken, Across Endless Dimensions, choose the version with Dimash in the black and white jacket, it is a MV for the movie Creators The Past. So many more you cannot go wrong. Another MV done recently is Be With Me, where Dimash raps in Kazakh. Queen Medley with the Super Vocal Boys is cool. I know other people will have given you long lists so I will stop. If you want info, the Dears ( Dimash's name for his fans) will be happy to give you lots!!! Have a great journey, you have been Dimashified!

Hello, Dimash cannot be classified in one thing in particular, because he has the versatility, and the genius, to do what he wants, in each song. He walked through almost all of his vocal ranges, he loves music, Dimash is music. And mistake, the last note was held for 20 timed seconds. I hope you are still in this great world, called Dimash. He is on another level. The instrument is called Kovyz .Greatings from a "Dear"........... By the way, the saxophone is a beautiful instrument, and I love Kenny G. I only love music for as long as I can remember, I tried to learn piano and guitar, but I'm only good at hearing, not at reading sheet music.

The instrument is a traditional Kazakh instrument called the kobyz (qobyz). There is obvious overlap or similarities in some regions of the world. I grew up with music. We all play instruments and did some singing. I sang with choirs in primary school and had piano lessons from four until I completed my RCM grade 8, violin lessons for a year at 7 and began cello when I was 10. My dad insisted that all of us (five kids) should at least know a basic scale on the cornet, so I have that also. My primary instruments are piano and cello. My youth was spent imagining a future as a musician and I was on track until I had my son at 20. I reinvented myself in a more practical field with only the occasional wedding gigs with ensembles. I love a broad base of musical styles and Dimash checks all the boxes as far as style, tone, timbre and emotion that appeals to me. You have a very sardonic approach that is an interesting contrast to those over-reactors you sometimes encounter on RU-vid. This is my favourite of the three new songs. The driving rhythm contrasted with the variety of piano and forte of Dimash’s vocals with the blending of middle eastern and almost Gregorian chant is infectious to me. I’ll probably check out more of your stuff. There are some who may argue that Stranger is in a melodic minor key but I felt there was a pentatonic line that follows. I haven’t officially dissected the melodic line on paper yet.

Thank you for kind reaction to Dimash Kudaibergen Kanatuly.🌸 Bowed instruments have originated in the equestrian cultures of Central Asia, an example being the Kobyz (Kazakh: қобыз) or kyl-kobyz is an ancient Turkic, Kazakh string instrument and then Mongolian instrument Morin huur: Turkic and Mongolian horsemen from Inner Asia were probably the world’s earliest fiddlers. Their two-stringed upright fiddles were strung with horsehair strings, played with horsehair bows, and often feature a carved horse’s head at the end of the neck. The violins, violas, and cellos we play today, and whose bows are still strung with horsehair, are a legacy of the nomads. It is believed that these instruments eventually spread to China, India, the Byzantine Empire and the Middle East, where they inspired into instruments such as the erhu in China, the rebab in the Middle East, the lyra in the Byzantine Empire and the esraj in India. The violin in its present form emerged in early 16th-Century Northern Italy, where the port towns of Venice and Genoa maintained extensive ties to central Asia through the trade routes of the silk road. The "kobyz" is neither shamanic nor belongs of darkness. (Shamans playing a special drum.) The kobyz was Korkut Ata's instrument. Korkut Ata (Dede Korkut, Korkyt Ata), who played kobyz, composed musical pieces, had a super human wisdom, foresaw future, doctor recovering the sick, Great Vizier of the sovereign and was a "kam", is believed to have lived near Sırderya river. Probably he was older like epics. It has been proved that the various narratives about Dede Korkut, except the two known copies were transformed into different kinds of narratives. Some of the mythological narratives, the source of legends starring Korkut, were transformed into legend and some were transformed into story and/or tale. Only two original copies of this book has still remained today. (Dresden and Vatican copies) Korkut Ata is accepted as the father of Turkic music, creator of "Küy" and a legendary hero in Kazakhstan and all Turkic countries. (Mr. Kudaibergen played "Adai" named "küy" in Daididau.) The musical compositions are all interconnected by the epic stories that accompany them. The element encompasses social, cultural and moral values such as heroism, dialogue, physical and spiritual wellness and unity as well as respect for nature, and contains profound knowledge about the history and culture of Turkic-speaking communities. Inscribed in 2018 (13.COM) on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity Wise women and men has used to play kobyz (since BC. 3000+). The other people may also played it. It is not forbidden but hard. Wise people are called "baksı" or "kam" in old Turkic culture. They worship "Tengri" (means "God"). Kobyz imitates nature: rivers, winds, trees, wolves, eagles, etc. 🐺 🌙Antic Epics said that, "when the kobyz is played, the demons run away". When the kobyz is played, people chills, because evilness go away. 🌙 Anglo-Saxon language is not my mother tongue so I have mistakes, sorry for that.🌼 References: *JACQUOT, A. Music began to be important to me in elementary school listening to my dad's Frank Sinatra and Nat King Cole records. In 7th grade my dad started taking me to live musical performances, & also I had a music appreciation teacher who was a terrific inspiration. I was an alto in high school choir, & had piano lessons 6th-9th grade. No musical talent in me, but it has been wonderful appreciating others through the years, and Dimash has been my biggest joy since 2018; I can't get through a day without listening to him!

Dimash, the man/the singer of this "siecle"! Watching your reactions on him from Romania... 🇷🇴 Blurring the original video for avoiding copyright issues makes "our" eyes focusing much more on you... 🤓 Sorry for not having time for telling my life-story (which my aunt found out interesting enough for advising me to wrote a book about it 🤓), but thank you for introducing yourself!!!

Thank you for reactions! My favourite Dimash's style is classical- spiritual. So, I would recommend Olimpico (Ogni Pietra Arnau), Passione, Love is Like a Dream, Across Endless Dimensions, Ave Maria (a modern composition).

Testing out some closed caption translations (Portuguese, Russian, and French). Please do let me know as best you can if they are actually accurate. If not, I'll need to find a better service to pull this off...and get my money back 🤣. But hey, I'm tryin lol. And if they appear to work out well enough, I'll expand out that list to more languages and backfill the other videos, as well as future ones.

You do a great job. My mother taught piano, my sister taught piano, my brother played baritone horn in Notre Dame marching band and sang in Glee Club and my dad was tone deaf. I hid behind the drapes to avoid piano lessons but became proficient on the trumpet and discovered my tenor singing voice.

Thanks for sharing this 😊 I used to hide in our attic to avoid my mom when the orders started coming lol. I was definitely a band kid. Played with my high school's marching band from my 2nd year playing; so 7th grade, and went on to being the Drum Major my last two years. Such fun times :)
