BTW since Demon Slayer: Infinite train was released not too long ago, I'd like to point out that we are still waiting for that part two of Demon Slayer yokai that you promised. No pressure :).
@@jamesd8169 yea, but still one can have fantasies at times. Although I wonder has she been? Even more weird where have been both of them on the Gaijin Goomba’s play channel? The last few years it’s only been their friends, never the other two.
Lady D in a way is also a genderbent Dracula. Her three daughters parallel the three vampire women Dracula kept in his castle and the fact that Lady D turns into a dragon, Dracula's namesake, at the end of her encounter really solidifies that connection.
@@duskbringer4583 a tall faceless well dressed man who also collects souls which he hangs like dolls with ropes around their necks, sometimes displayed on his arms. He can only be seen by his targets, and whispered in their ears to commit suicide. He was blamed for a rash of real suicides and in some communities is treated as a real evil spirit.
@@dantemustdie00 which has to be weird to some. It would be like finding out some country mostly knows Slenderman from a porn so assumes they originated there.
As soon as I saw the po po po pic I recognised it...never been jumped scared by ero manga before...still wanna know what happen to the dude in the very very end
Karl "Van Magneto" Heisenberg acted by hmmm... cant decide if he should be played by between Iconic Overeacting Nick Cage or Cool Composed Keanu Reeves...eh how bout both
@@fyreborneblu6706 IF given proper direction and not told to just act like himself, Nick Cage can be an amazing actor. Guy has amazing acting chops, but almost every director that hires him hires him for the overacting he does rather than for his full acting range. Honestly, best example I can give for how different he can be when he is given proper direction with his acting is G-Force, he's the VA for the mole in that movie.
@@thejestor9378 It seems more like he's the one that picks hammy roles for the sake of doing the chops. He did have some pretty good movies recently (Color Out of Space and Mandy). Going by Wisecrack's dissection of his acting style, I'd like to see him play the DC villain Clayface.
I appreciate how analytical you were with Lady D’s popularity being largely based on people’s lust for her. It was well thought out and also playful but not mocking in anyway all while excellently making your point. Excellent job. And I also learned alot about the yoaki she’s based off of that I didn’t know previously.
I love that each of the lords are based on the 5 big western monsters, Dimitrescu being the Vamoire, Beneviento as the Ghost, Moreau as the Eldritch Horror, and Heisenberg as Frankenstein and his Monster. Such a shame that Uria the leader of the Lycans was given such a small role.
@@shelbyherring92 Because Urias is a pseudo-lord, and Lycans are the fifth of the big five western monsters. Urias is the confirmed leader of the Lycans, but he's not much more then a somewhat stronger base enemy. You can even straight up kill him during the initial Lycan attack. That's why I said it was shame how they handled him. He should of been one of the lords too, he even runs the Lycan village.
Actually it makes sense, Lycans are sadly not as focused as much compared to Vampires, Frankenstein's Monster, Eldritch Horrors and even Zombies. Which sucks since Lycans have existed since as far back as Ancient Greece, and through generations Lycans had different methods of treatment until the Silver Bullet idea came into play.. There was also Wolfsbane or giving them bad sacrificial meat... or straight up "Scold Them Until They Return To Normal".
Oh my god.... now it makes sense why I didn't simp for Lady D I have repressed the Hasshaku yokai since I stumbled upon that doujin and that particular face just scared the crap out of me
Admittedly, I was introduced to Hachishakusama via the doujinshi you mentioned, but that aside, the moment I saw Lady Dimitrescu in the trailer, I knew exactly where the inspiration came from 😂
There are plenty of European inspirations for this game, and some Slavic too. But since resident evil is a Japan developEd series, it stands to reason that there would be some Japanese folklore connections too.
Oh I would LOVE to hear more about Donna and Morue. To me, Donna’s own home is like Mexico’s Island of the Dolls, including the story of the drowned girl coinciding with the grave of the young Beneviento that you see before entering Donna’s house. And Morue being based off of a kappa is so obvious, but I can also see inspiration from Creature of the Black Lagoon and realife poisonous fishes that can go on land/salamanders. Please do more Gaijin! :D
OKAY. I NEED TO UPDATE THIS CAUSE I JUST REALIZED SOMETHING. Moreau might also be based off of Doctor Moreau from the Island of Doctor Moreau; a mad scientist that mixes humans with animals-DOESN’T THAT SOUND FAMILIAR WITH WHAT MOREAU DID.
PLEASE give us the video on Donna Beneviento first! Kappa are fine and all, but... Honestly, puppets are just WAY freakier and if there's a japanese connection there, it'd be SO much more fun to learn about!
One (non-supernatural) connection is the decision to cover her in black. It brings to mind stagehands in Japanese puppet theatre, who do the same to blend in against a black background and thus turn "invisible".
I’m actually surprised to see you do an episode on an RE game, but after reading in Lady D’s concept art that she was inspired by the Hachishaku-sama, I guess it’d be a no-brainer.
Dude, this video literally blew my mind and really please do the other two I'm very interested in the connections between Donna and fish guy more specifically the doll maker done she's the more scariest enemy in the game in my opinion, thank you for This amazing analysis
Never have I ever thought in my enitre life would I ever read the word Thicc and Yokai at the same time....well mister goombah youve got my undivided attention 5:23 Yep definitely googling that one
It is terrifying and it’s relentlessness in stalking its target. And what makes it scarier is that we never know what this Yokai does when it reaches its target.
It always fascinates me how we sort of amalgamate society how humanity creates monsters visions and all these other things that exists like puppet Masters exist all over the world really interesting to see if you actually do that resident evil village villain
I’m tall, beautiful and wear a white dress also a sunhat… I’m actually attract and persistent with whoever I like until I get what I want… I’m actually similar to this Yo-Kai!!! Does this mean I am and haunted you and everyone I have sub? Lol…
I think the reason for why REV did well in sales was cause you could view lady D in ways that could get you arrested in current year IRL. Mainly cause she's fictional and fictional characters only have artificial feelings.
I think the most interesting thing about this video is the fact that this yokai was essentially created this recently. A lot of the yokai you talk about have been around for centuries so it's cool on this small insight in Japanese culture
Just because I wanna share, I found an actually pretty wholesome something invoking the yokai in question. It's not really dark and as long as you don't mind shota it's pretty good
Never have i imagine that i'll be scared and horni at the same time Capcom knows what they've done and modders does too apparently some has weapons turned into a fly swatter and some more cultured mods
There’s a lot more varied inspiration for Lady Dimitrescu than I realized. I just saw some surface level pop culture inspiration from Bram Stoker’s Dracula in her three female vampiric cohorts, as well as Castlevania’s Dracula when she turns inside out for her boss fight. Those could just be coincidental similarities from Elizabeth Bathory and the trend of other Resident Evil bosses to turn inside out, but that’s what I saw and I think it makes sense.
This was really well done! Also, there is another european inspiration, that I haven't seen many people talk about: our beloved Lady D shares her first name, Alcina, with the italian Fairy Queen, who is described as a beautiful and heartless woman. She is one of the more famous villains in the chilvalry epic "Orlando Furioso" where she seduces the knight Roger and keeps him with her in her court of (all female) faeries.
Thank you for bringing back my trauma. Edit 1: that doujin horrified me and gave me nightmares for a month, at the minimum. Edit 2: yes, I read the whole anthology.
I read the creepypasta for Hachishakusama some time ago, but I had trouble thinking of how the "po, po, po" noises she made could be scary. The modulated sound or voice or whatever actually helped a bit with that. I've also heard that Hachishakusama appeared in the Monster Musume (AKA Daily Life with a Monster Girl) franchise as an unlockable character in a free-to-play game. Unfortunately, said game isn't available anymore but you can see the character in the Fandom wiki.
4:23 WOAH!! @GaijinGoombahMedia you guys DEFINITELY stepped up the animation on this video. Whether it's skillshare and/or a editor/animation artist, it was Amazing! Like I felt it one frame into the animation that it was different from previous videos. Keep up the great work.
Thank you for another video, please if you can do these requests Which Ninja: Ninja and Ninja 2: Shadow of a Tear Yokai Hunter: The Satsui No Hado users in Street Fighter
That's actually kinda nice to see some Youkai inspiration in a game series that was mainly taking inspirations from Greecian and Eurpoean lore. And yes, I'd like to see you cover Mordeau and Angie someday.
I'm still waiting for the bit on how Froslass is a Yuki-Onna. But on another note, I've always wanted to tell you that the intro music for this series SLAPS!
I would absolutely love another RE:Village yokai video. Seeing all the inspiration origins is so interesting! All your yokai videos are fascinating. Also, Lady D is more 1920's-1930's than Victorian just judging by her clothes. Karolina Żebrowska did a great video breaking it down from a historical fashion perspective.
I heard something once about Elizabeth that basically boiled down to none of the accusations had any real merit and were primarily made by her own relatives, people working for her relatives, or people who would benefit off of her imprisonment, as when she was imprisoned for the crimes all her wealth and property was given to her family as she spent the rest of her life locked in a tower, having gone insane from the isolation.
Cant wait for Gaijin Goomba explain the youkai origins of Beneviento, remember the possesed dolls. Alos Moreau maybe had little origin of that film and book of "The island of Dr Moreau"
For those curious, the ending goes pretty much along the lines that the author is still being coaxed to return to Japan by the Hasshaku still, the Hasshaku-sama of course using voice mimicry to try to make them come back to the country.
I felt she was also a nice reference to fictional Dracula. Lives in a castle in Romania, vampiric, she thinks she's better than every one else, her 3 daughters have the same hair colors of Dracula's brides. Here being twice the hight of a human and turning to a monster was also a nice reference to Castlevania.
Gaijin Goombah: "I am very well aware that there is a very smutty dojin retelling of the tale of Hasshaku-Sama, which I don't suggest you look up." Me: "Too late boss." *WAY* Too late.
For someone advocating to not read that specific doujin, you use surprisingly much material from it. I'm joking btw, it's probably simply because the scenes that aren't straight up porn and depict the actual story work pretty well.
Sounds like the monster from It Follows, minus the being able to escape it by removing yourself to another continent and adding in the further ability to pass it along to others via the mommy-daddy dance, adding to it's bonk factor. . .
That Skill Share sponsor coming in just as I was thinking about learning to do cartography for some D&D Homebrewing I was working on has to be a dang sign!
Honestly the idea of Lady D being inspired by Hachishaku-sama completely escaped me but I'd like to see more of Moreau, Angie and Beneviento analysed for their yokai counterparts though more interested in Angie and Beneviento since I have only seen a doll yokai used once and that was in Fatal Frame, also that Beneviento despite hiding her face, is actually beautiful if you view a portrait of her and Angie so that can be something to address in another video.
Calling it, rezzie 9 is going to be in japan with yokai mutants and will explore how a lot of humanity's mythical creatures are really just rezzie mutants (the megamycete was natural, as was the progenitor virus. There are other mutagens lurking out there).
Honestly, I’ve been aware of Hasshaku-sama ever since she decided to pop up in Fatal Frame 5 (known as The Tall Lady in-game) and scare me shitless multiple times throughout the game. It felt kinda weird seeing the Internet hype around Lady Dimitrescu, since I legit couldn’t look at any screenshots or artwork of her w/o seeing the twisted grin of The Tall Lady.
Ohhhh God I didn’t know she was inspired by the Hashaksama, but I did recognize the Hashaksama herself and I hate that I do! XD I saw the “anime” on that story years ago, and that jumpscare screen definitely got me.
I've known about random silent "u"s since Senketsu. The living clothing. I was freaked out by the silent "c" in "indict". That still doesn't sound right to me. Anyway.
*"I wouldn't mind being groundpounded by her." -Gaijin Goombah, 2021* I see Gaijin Goombah is back to his primal instinct. (groundpounded by every Super Mario* characters)
