This is one of the most detailed and authentic pieces of music I’ve ever listened to

Splendid and ultimately very moving performance of this great work. I had the good fortune to see Nelsons conduct it (and most of the Shostakovich symphonies) with the Boston Symphony Orchestra in the recent past.

I like so much about this symphony. Could be best use of tubas in music.

I first heard the Yvgeney Svetlanov version. Later I had the Ormandy. I've heard various others since. This might be my single most favorite piece of music. This performance is as close to perfect as any I expect to hear. Thank you so much!

Barshai with the WDR from about 10 years ago or Kondrashin with the Moscow from the 60s. This one is too placid. The orchestra needs to feel DS's terror to convey his terror.

For a tragedy this sure is fun.

Very slight sync problems here and there. But a great performance. Nelsons' 2018 performance of this symphony in Boston is preserved on a highly regarded DG CD set, coupled with the 11th.

A bit on the slow side (finale too slow for me), but fine performance.

The Wiki entry said it all came from Mahler. Hmnn.

something about the ending to this one is so phenomenal. I like the louder "penultimate" part as well. The whole thing has this effect of putting an emotional twist or surprise at the end.

Important. I improved my favourite performance (Järvi) and added 70hz rumbling, because on that recording it was regrettably weak.
