The female is Agnete from the band Djerv, who is only a feature in this song and doesnt appear in any other Dimmu song. Gotta check our Mourning Palace or Serpentine Offering if you liked this one though!
Fun fact, she also used to be in a band called Animal Alpha. The song Bundy comes to mind lol but honestly, such an amazing artist. I've always loved her singing
@@taylorowens6107 ill throw another fun fact out there, she was a teacher at a Folk high school teaching sewing and design in norway at one point. i have several friends that had her, but im not sure she works there anymore.
Dimmu borgir is the biggest music export from Norway. This concert took place in Spectrum in Oslo, one of the greatest arenas in Norway. And this show was aired on NRK1 , a channel owned by the state of Norway . So yeah, Dimmu Borgir is a huge deal
Yeah, I don't know why people always suggest Gateways to reactors. Probably because there's a female vocalist. Is it an actual great song of theirs? I'd say no. Frankly I hate the song and think it's a bad one to introduce people to the band to.
@@Salomon_Gsame here. Gateways is average at best. And this is after Mustis and Vortex left, so Dimmu went downhill quick. Abrahadabra is their worst album IMO. They brought in a choir to replace Vortex, an orchestra to replace Mustis, and it’s still terrible compared to their earlier stuff.
I was actually in their Progenies of the Great Apocalypse music video. A friend of mine in Austria directed the video, and put our stunt fight group, Die Dresch-Flegel, in the video. We then went to Festhalle in Munich to see their concert with Amon Amarth.
Oh god i still remember the day 21 years ago when my friend played me progeniens of the great apocalypse from dimmu borgir, it felt like holy shit does music this good really even exists?
This was a 2017 performance by Dimmu Borgir w/ the Norwegian Radio Orchestra... released as the live DVD 'Forces of the Northern Night'... The track 'Gateways' was performed in Oslo, Norway w/ guest singer Agnete Kjølsrud from their 2010 album 'Abrahadabra'. Dimmu Borgir (loosely translates into 'dark castle') was formed in 1993 as a Norwegian black metal w/ classical symphonic influences... They wanted to be disassociated from the Norwegian black metal scene that was involved w/ church burnings and murder... but retained the satanic perspectives and themes. Dimmu Borgir songs: "Mourning palace" ... "The serpentine offering" ... 'Stormblast' ... 'The insight and the catharsis' ... 'Progenies of the great apocalypse' ... 'Blessings upon the throne of tyranny'... 🤘🤘🔥🔥 Silenoz (rhythm guitar + lyrics) formed Dimmu Borgir w/ Shagrath (lead vocals/ guitar/ keys) and Tjodalv (drums) ...Originally, Shagrath played drums and Tjodalv played guitar... but they switched. Their early records were written w/ Norwegian lyrics... Their debut album 'For all tid' was released in 1995 w/ Stian Aarstad (keyboards) and Brynjard Tristan (bass) ... followed by 'Stormblast' in 1996. Signing w/ German label Nuclear Blast Records in 1997, Dimmu Borgir released their 3rd album "Enthrone darkness triumphant" in 1997, which was their first record w/ English lyrics and Nagash (bass) in the band and Astennu (lead guitar) joined afterwards. The album was a minor success and followed by the EP 'Godless savage garden' in 1998... 4th full album 'Spiritual black dimensions' was released in 1999 w/ Mustis (keyboards) joining as Dimmu Borgir toured both Europe and N. America as Norwegian black metal began gaining popularity worldwide. In 2000, the band fired guitarist Astennu... Tjodalv (drums) left to form a new band Susperia... Nagash (bass) also left for the short-lived band The Kovenant. In 2001, Dimmu Borgir re-tooled their line-up w/ Galder (lead guitar) joining Shagrath (vocals), Silenoz (rhythm guitar) and Mustis (keyboards)... Vortex (bass & clean vocals) and Nicholas Barker (drums) were also added to record their breakthrough album 'Puritanical euphoric misanthropia'... followed by 'Death cult armageddon' in 2003... Dimmu Borgir parted ways w/ drummer Nicholas before their Ozzfest 2004 tour which boosted their popularity in N. America. In 2005, they re-recorded their 2nd album 'Stormblast' w/ better production and the current line-up and released it as 'Stormblast MMV'. In 2007, their most successful record 'In sorte diaboli' w/ Mayhem drummer Hellhammer... but after the tour, disagreements and infighting led to Mustis (keyboards), Vortex (bass) to quit Dimmu Borgir. In 2010, Dimmu Borgir were officially a trio (Shagrath, Silenoz and Galder) and recorded 'Abrahadabra' w/ session musicians Daray (drums), Snowy Shaw (bass) and Gerlioz (keyboards)...and the band toured extensively before taking a break... Their last album 'Eonian' was released in 2018 and Victor Brandt (bass) joined for the tour and a covers album 'Inspiratio Profanus' was released in 2023 and are working on a new album.
I love Mourning Palace! (totally unrelated wink wink I also enjoy Enya - Orinoco Flow) I remember hearing Mourning Palace for the first time on a sampler CD that came with a magazine a friend bought. I used that CD to make my first 2 mp3s. That was back when you had to manually record the song to a WAV file via Audio Recorder and then using l3enc (the first reference encoder made) it took like an hour to turn it into an 112 kbps MP3 file. The other song was Lake of Tears - Devil's Diner btw
A total of 92 people on stage for this. This is by far the biggest black metal band from Norway and they play massive concerts (100k+) in europe. Not all bm is satanic though😂 The makeup.. is the old school corpse paint.
Shagrath of Dimmu Borgir is awesome. I got the concert DVD of Forces of The Northern Lights. Can't wait for more Dimmu Borgir. Depending on the venue they have The Korg Orchestra with them on stage. You should watch Progenies of The Great Apocalypse
Such a badass band! Please check out their older work! Progenies of the great apocalypse, kings of the carnival creation, the chosen legacy, the serpentine offering, the sacrilegious scorn, the mourning palace, so many great songs!
This is once of my favourite live performances ever. Agnete's stage presence is absolutely otherworldly. She commands 100% of the audience's attention. If you haven't, you should react to Devin Townsend, specifically his live orchestral rendition of 'deadhead' at Royal Albert.
3 words to explain how much Agnete Kjølsrud is a great metal singer : - Djerv (2011 album) - Get Jinxed (2015 promotional vidéo for League of Legends) - Svarteboka (2023 collab with Gäte)
Check out Dimmu's song Progenies of the great Apocalypse. Definitely one of their best tunes The clean vocal part that is sung by Vortex (bassist) really ties the song together.
I ve seen them live but back then in late 90s, early 2000 they didn't have an orchestra.. fan from their first album.. shagrath is one of my favourite singers.. his voice hasn't changed at all, all these years..

before djerv agnette was in the band - "Animal Alpha" - try the song "in the barn"
Gåte has a very good song kalled Svarteboka, and there Agnete is the co singer... and does a damn good job. Check that one out. She is the main singer in the band Djerv. She was also the singer in the band Animal Alpha, that had a big hit in the 2000's
The name "dimmu borgir" it's taking from one of Iceland's volcano names If i remember correctly anyway seen You've reacting to dimmu borgir Maybe next could be some cradle of filth as well.
Agnete is simply awesome! And she's such a lovely person too... deffo should check out her band Djerv! "Headstones" or "Gruesome Twosome" for example are real bangers. (And I second what others have said... check out Dimmu songs with Vortex on vocals! Or check out Borknagar, "Frostrite" is a great one... or "Up North". Vortex's vocals on those tracks are amazing!)
Me and my friends (and others I'm sure) affectionately refer to them as "Dumma Birger" - pronounced with a umm sound in the first word, and Birger is said as Birr-Jerr. It means Stupid Birger (Birger is a first name). It has nothing to do with the band afaik it's just a small rearranging of and switching out ofletters and making a valid two word name that sounds similar. Oh and I've heard international fans call them Demon Burger :) which is somewhat more at least related haha
Long ago, I was shown their video for 'Progenies of the Great Apocalypse', from 1997, and it was SO far outside my experience at the time that I hardly knew what to think about it. I did later notice that a small part of that song was used in the trailer for the first 'Hellboy' movie. The male vocalist(Shagrath) did guest work on two songs from Kamelot's 2005 album, 'The Black Halo', particularly on 'March of Mephisto'.
You should try Dimmu Borgir - The Insight and the Catharsis, and than especially the live version around 2007 or earlier. The clean vocals by their old bassplayer ICS Vortex gives a lot of us goosebumps every damn time.
If you want to check more from them, you should check Serpentine Offering or/and Progenies of the Great Apocalypse, and thank you for this videos helps time pass by on my work
I've always seen them having a choir for live shows as a necessity to replace one man. Their ex-bass player ICS Vortex. He has a fantastic voice that was epic mixed with Shagrath's (the lead singer). Unfortunately I think they had a pretty drastic drop in quality when he left. Definitely should check out his bands though. Arcturus and Borknagar.
day 929 of recomending MASTODON or GOJIRA. they are highly melodical bands even gojira tends to be heavier i still think you would love them. mastodon even has these harsh vocals mixed with clean vocals and the DRUMER IS ALSO A SINGER! i would go for Another World by Gojira and Teardrinker from Mastodon. thx for the content!
