Its definately my old boat Holly after watching this again. Wish i never sold it now. Possibly going to downsize from a 40 footer in the near future. getting older. Enjoy your time on the water.

Moreton Bay is certainly a great place though for me it's being loved to death like a lot of places of late. I much prefer to either go through the week when less boats in the bay or most often go to much less crowded waters. Not saying where as even those have been so much busier than a few years ago. lucky you Holly growing up on a Farr 6000. I sure wish I had. My first sailboat was a Mirror which I bought about 45 years ago. Loved it and did a few overnight cruises from southport up along south Stradbroke Is. After a few years the boat needed a new paint job and as the hull was in such good condition I was determined not to use it until I'd given it a good going over. Well----------it's only taken me almost 40 years to get around to doing it up. life gets in the way sometimes. Meanwhile about 15 years ago I bought a Farr 6000 which I've used extensively since, spending up to 3 months aboard in places like the Gulf of Carpentaria (two trips one each side of the gulf) and another long trip to Lake Argyle, the Kimberlies and up and around the Tiwi Islands. All fantastic trips along with many trips up along the Qld coast, mostly in remote places. Lately I've also bought a TS 16 which I simply could not refuse due to it's condition and price. Love sailing and thanks for posting this wonderful account. PS: that anchor on the end of a quite long length of chain and lying on it's side can be improved by extending the bits of protective hose quite a bit. I made a stainless steel one for my Farr and fitted stiff peices of hose to the cross bar such that it fills the whole width of the back of the Farr anchor locker. I made it to fit and it's so reliable. I do realize it probably hasn't had enough strain to dig in properly due to that great length of chain which in itself is probably holding the boat at that stage.
@@afloatinawoodenboat Holly, I'm curious as to the comparable performances between the F6 and the TS16. From about 14.30 the TS 16 appears to be much faster and I'm wondering if your Dad had depowered to let him pass? I've only sailed My TS16 a single time with no other sailboats around. You commented that he beat you but I'd be surprised if the TS is that much faster? Your Dad is a lucky man to be able have your Mum accompany him in a sailboat. My wife hates both the water and boats in general.
@@peterbarnes8737 the particular TS16 in question is indeed a national champion and skippered by an excessively accomplished sailor. But also wasn’t carrying grandchildren who like calm sailing :)
Nice story ,i was one of the bigger boats moored out a bit (coolchange) and watch you guys sail past .bought back great memories of my hood 23 and sailing all around the bay ,learning . You guys are inspiring.
And with Tassie spring feeling more like winter, this was a refreshing moment for us too! Well worth the trip. I love it how Northern and Southern Hemispheres can keep each other’s sailing addictions going through each other’s respective winters :)
Nice video Holly! Great to see a sail on Morton bay and hoping to get up there with the Cherry. I eagerly await a copy of Beacon to Beacon in the mail. Amazing to see just a few smaller boats on the beach and so many big boats moored out in the bay. Small boats good times.
Thanks Teo - it’s a very rare thing to have a family sailing together. We know it and owe it all to the inspiration set by my mum and dad. Gene says he is so excited that your boat is coming along well too!
Hi Holly. It's the stornaway with the red top sides and blue sails. I sold it in 2014 aprox. I've been living on my beneatue 40 ever since. Now back on terra firma.😢😢
Marvellous! You can be assured that the little red boat gets well used and loved by her current owner. He’s such a lovely fellow, it’s always a pleasure to sail with him and with the little boat!
No I didnt build it. I cannot be 100 percent sure it was my old boat but I did paint the top sides red and the sails were blue also. I sold it from my home at carbrook.
