And one more adventure on our skiffs, sailing and camping around on the Tagus estuary. We tried to sail upriver but with the wind right on the nose we had to change our plans. We still had a beautiful weekend. You just cant beat sailing and camping...

Good to see (dinghy cruising) from all parts of the world. It gives us a view of where and how other sailors spend their sailing days. Also as this is within towing distance for a sailing holiday it will encourage us to think about doing it and that is enough to cheer me up. Many thanks from Liverpool and nice to see the sun.

Good day Mr Rambler.... I was hoping that you can do a video on the home built catamaran of your friend. It would be so awesome to know more about it. I am interested to build one, and this one of your friend seems to be the best I have ever seen. PS, your boat that you built is absolutely stunning, and the performace is outstanding. Hope to hear from you soon....

Hi Mike, Edgar's catamaran is a Hitia 14 by James Wharram. There is a huge following for most of his designs you will get a lot more detail and help from the specific groups. I do have a couple of videos where I sail alongside the Hitia 14 if you want to have a look: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-eHfMxmsTc9M.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uMzgldl7eyw.html

you videos have really convinced me that the Goat is a great boat! how does it perform compared to the cat? (is it a Hitia 17?) According to the numbers, the hitia 17 has more sail area but also weighs more
@TheBoatRambler
@TheBoatRambler 11 месяцев назад
It's an Hitia 14, you can find a few videos on my channel of the two boats sailing side by side. short answer...in any winds in which I don't need to ease the sheet (up to 10kts) the GIS keeps up and is faster running due to the big single sail. When the tough get's going the Hitia 14 doesn't heel and it will go past the GIS fast. Ofc if it's on a beam reach or running the GIS is always fast and a close match to the Hitia in any wind.
@dominictarrsailing
@dominictarrsailing 11 месяцев назад
@@TheBoatRambler great! thank you for your answer! I was had watched quite a few of your videos and thought that looked like a fast boat, but then I watched the construction video and realized it was just a flat bottom, straight sided skiff! I became much more impressed! have you weighed it? I saw on the designers sight a claim that the bare hull weighs 60kg, but that's not rigged weight I presume.
@TheBoatRambler
@TheBoatRambler 11 месяцев назад
The standard hull will weight around 60Kg if built with light plywood/wood. The box mast weights around 10kg, and the yard + boom another 5kg, add the sail and the foils and you should get a fully rigged boat under 100Kg I would guess. That's in between a Laser and a 420. It should be possible to match the Laser weight fully rigged (maybe) if you use carbon mast and spars like some GIS owners do. Maybe @MichaelStorerBoatPlans has some more data on this.
