Prepping for the 2023 day sailing season begins. I explore plans for using my Orca sail from the Sunfish to be raised on the O’Day. Will it work as a mainsail or as a genoa since it is much larger than the jib. There is more boat work to be done but she is coming along pretty sweet. Stay tuned for her season premiere when we test out the colorful “genoa” in a couple of weeks.

Like the mast crutch idea. Hmmmm. Might need to borrow this idea. I used a plastic cutting board as under deck renforcement for hiking straps, I would think you'd want that bow roller back to lessen the downward moment ( but I dont anchor, so I'll see what you came up with.) Nice job attaching the slugs, looks perfect, bummer didnt work.

Do you have a design, measurements of your tabernacle...or even a contact to who made yours? Maybe is a shortcut for me to have one made...😊

@@FlatlandMando this video might help answer some questions about the mast tabernacle. I highly recommend contacting Rudy at D&R Marine. He can help you with parts and a setup. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2oOgv55tNpE.htmlsi=GViwyopSJNmdAKxa

I have a McVay Falcon of 16ft. & made in about 1968, looks very similar lines & size to your boat. To no great surprise, my boat needs a lot of work too. I see you use an over size genoa jib to sail...do you do that without the "main"? I don't have a mast tabernacle but want to build one!

@@FlatlandMando I use my “Genoa” head sail both with and without the mainsail. It works great in light winds by adding my power than my smaller jib.

I really like your creativity and enthusiasm. Looks like it kind of works as a Genoa / drifter

Yes it worked like a Genoa. It’s especially useful in light winds!

The wire connecting to the back of the boom to the mast - I don’t have that. Seemed like something that would make sense when I set it up, good to see it was not just my imagination.

It’s different than my Pearson 26 since it does not require backstay. I went to the Newport Boatshow to get rigging ideas. Rudy at D&R Marine was a big help too.

That is the topping lift, you can use the main halyard if not attached to the main ( useful for camping). If you run a second line, would have to store it while underway.
