Love hearing Kim Deal on Tarpit and performing with this great band. Maybe she could do more with them, her voice really fits their song well. thanks Dinosaur Jr for featuring her. and great vid!
I was at the 12/2-12/4 shows. They were magical. I actually cried a few times on the first two nights, hearing the record performed in song order. What Else is New, Get Me, Hide, and Goin Home in particular. Love these guys!
The love I have for all 3 of these guys has no bounds. So good to their fans and such amazing sounds. All things considered, my favorite extant band, and definitely the best of the last 30-40 years. Love you, dinosaur!
How can you top playing Gigantic w/ Kim Deal? Proceeds to play one of the finest versions of Forget the Swan 😅 They looked so relaxed and happy that for a moment I thought they could play a Sebadoh song with Kim, maybe The Freed Pig and the circle would have been complete ⭕️ but nahh maybe that’s too much to ask for. Thanks for sharing this epic concert!❤
Trying (in vain) to keep that pit alive during Kim's performance was one of the greatest honors of my life. Seeing her play a Pixies song on Lou's Rick was a net positive to the world.
Overall tempo of the songs was probably increased to energize & hype the audience. Also the show was pushed back an hour so with the opening band, they didn't hit the stage until just after 10pm so that may have played a role too.
Lots of bands, including Dino, speed up their songs live. Whether intentionally or just due to the excitement of playing live, it happens frequently. I can see what you mean with the feel with some slightly slower stuff like What Else Is New, but Murph kills on On The Way, etc. Let's also keep in mind that most of these songs haven't been played live in 2 or 3 decades, and that Murph played on all the original tracks for this album.
@@ioncewasmikey Yes, I've been to a gig before. I'm just saying what made that album so good was the vibe of the dirge, that has been lost in this performance.
Oh wow, J's playing the Rogue guitar sitar on The Wagon! I used to look at those things in Musician's Friend catalog back in the early 00's when I was in high school. Was big into The Beatles & Zeppelin and was intrigued by the potentially Eastern sounds that thing might create. That was well before I ever heard of Dinosaur, let alone them becoming one of my favorite bands of all time.
You're welcome, thanks for the watch and cool comment! It was just sheer luck we all picked the date Kim was a guest! Couldn't have been more thrilled! 🤩
Heheh I guess I was just out of the meltdown radius. But tbh I didn't wear any ear plugs and I thought it was totally fine. Just some short term ringing that night only, but I was g2g the next morning without any after effects. 🤘
Man, it's so cool to see them play this whole album live. It's great that 2 or 3 songs get some love on their normal set lists, but there are so many good songs on this record that I wasn't sure they'd ever play again. Seeing Lou really embrace all these songs is great too. It seems much healing has occurred between these dudes.
I'm not sure if they've already done it but I'd love to see them do the same thing for Green Mind. I heard some fans shouting for Blowing It and Water which would have absolutely made the evening even more special than it already was.
@@sesipro I don't think they did a Green Mind album set but they did Bug & luckily I caught one of those shows myself! Would love to see the deeper GM cuts played live! Edit- they'd have to do Blowin' It > I Live For That Look!
Much love for these uploads to everyone doing them! I went to the 12/3 show but it was so much fun I only got a bit of footage. This was a great idea to do a week+ worth of shows.
I'm a huge Pixies and The Breeders fan so I felt ultra lucky picking the night that Kim was the secret guest, unfortunately the same luck didn't continue on my Powerball and Megamillions tickets I bought the day after 🙃 Thanks for watching! 🤘
