I hog my cob as well as she is dripping with sweat by 10am in summer if I don't. I don't think people realise just how thick & heavy cob manes & coats tend to be. My cob also gets super itchy when I leave her mane to grow out (same with her tail) because having such thick, heavy hair prevents heat from dissipating easily underneath it- great for harsh winter conditions (which I don't get in my area or country) but a major problem the rest of the year when it is hot & humid. TBH, I also prefer my cob hogged, it suits her much better than a long mane (which are a nightmare to keep clean & in good order).

I'm all for clipping if it is necessary for the horse's wellbeing. Like, my pony would get such a thick coat by the end of august, that she was dripping with sweat before getting down to the indoor. I also realize that hogging is tradition, but I don't think it looks good on any horse, I prefer the look of a forelock and mane, but I'm not going to tell people what to do or not... I do think Pep would look amazing with a full long mane and forelock, she could probably be in a shampoo commercial, I feel it. But I'm not going to say it is cruel or anything like that. In my country hogging is not done unless there is sweet itch, and sometimes people with fjords clip the mane down if it has rug damage, so it can grow out nice before competition season.

Hey! So there are a few reasons why I hog (roach) her. She came to me like this and was sold to me as a show cob. Here in the UK a show cob is meant to be shown fully hogged and clipped out and that is mostly what I have done with her since owning her. She also gets incredibly hot in the summer and I have to clip her in order to keep her in work or she overheats so I dread to think what she would be like with a thick mane. She also doesn’t have the best skin so clipping her and hogging her allows me to get right to her skin to treat skin issues and moisturise her skin. She has never had any trouble without her mane, she has a fly rug on during the summer so she is quite happy ☺️
