IMO, I don’t mind these, I think most come from actual paleo data and that why so many species share characteristics among games, I personally don’t see it as much of an issue.

@@frostbitetheannunakiiceind6574 irl T. rex likely doesn’t hunt how it does in BOB or TI in my opinion and due to all of the various walking stamina, agility, and speed studies that have come out.
@frostbitetheannunakiiceind6574
@@fishyfishyfishy500akabs8 true but the general idea still sticks to what attributes T-rex had, the high damage, bone break, being an ambush predator and stuff like that, once you change it's attributes too much it doesnt really feel like a rex

@fishyfishyfishy500akabs8 Год назад
@@frostbitetheannunakiiceind6574 the bite force sure, the high damage and bone break sure. The ambush predator no. Tyrannosaurids were generally pursuit predators with long legs and adaptations for moving long distances without tiring along with the ability to keep up with their prey. Tyrannosaurus rex was no different, with great movement efficiency due to a long stride length and efficient respiration and speed that isn't as blistering as most dino games would have you believe. I quote too that, "T.Rex Turned Like a Ballerina from a Slow-Motion Nightmare". If this is "not rex" to you then you seem to enjoy something more like the cultural image of it which had been popularized since jurrasic park. The fast running ambush predator which launched out at prey from cover, using sheer speed and ambush along the lines of an oversized lion, rather than the actual animal.
@frostbitetheannunakiiceind6574
@@fishyfishyfishy500akabs8 I meant ambush as in it trying to sneak up on prey and get as close as it can before launching at prey is because since T-rex is so massive I would assume it would be hard for such a big creature to run at a top speed for an extended period of time, T-rex is way more robust then other tyrannosaurids and not as leanly built. while it probably could run very fast I just cant see a t-rex running after something for a long pursuit chase the same a way a gorgosaurus or albertosaurus would. but I dont wanna sound pretentious or anything I could be totally wrong, maybe it hunted like wolves and ran down their prey for miles to tire them out who knows. I'm just taking into account size weight and mass and all that. and even if it is a pursuit predator I feel like it would still try to get as close as it can before it's prey notices its there, most carnivores in general try to do that to catch prey off guard

This is a very non issue while also being something you can’t really change? Like how do you change up something like Rex? Any major changes made to the creature itself would basically not make it Rex anymore. The only way to make a difference with these stereotypes is for the game itself to be different all together on its own! Which tbh pot and the isle has already succeeded at. As pot Rex has multiple moves and options to customize the creature to your liking and play style! And I would say something about the isles rex buttttt…
@alunaticwithashotgun9840
@alunaticwithashotgun9840 Год назад
Being on The Isle Evrima alone kinda removes that issue from Rex and many other playables to be honest, since in PoT they usually only add abilities that give status effects, while Evrima can have way more on top of that, like Rex being able to pin stuff down or literally lift them up and slam them into the ground if they are small enough (I'm mentioning these despite Rex not being in game because we've seen these stuff in the concept art along with some of the animations for them), these kinds of abilities are usually the reason why it takes much longer for a dinosaur to be added to evrima, and I say Rex is the best examplefor it since it's an animal that specializes on physical strength overall it would have been lazy if they just gave it the ability to break bones and relased it like a slightly more mobile legacy Rex. This is the main reason why I don't play PoT or other dinosaur games because they lack abilities like this, like what's the point of playing a raptor that can't pounce or a deino/other croc that can't grab and drown things ? Of course I'm not calling PoT a bad game because of this, it has it's own ways of making it's playables feel different but it's ways don't really work for me
@No_name8374
@No_name8374 Год назад
@@alunaticwithashotgun9840 Yeahh I see we’re your coming from. Which really does further add to the point of this really being a non issue. As Pot Rex is as basic as it gets with even Bobs Rex having a lot of its own quirks to offer as well! Hell pot Rex has a charge attack and a damage boost call! Which already makes it more unique and different then bobs and isle Rex!
@alunaticwithashotgun9840
@alunaticwithashotgun9840 Год назад
@@No_name8374 When it comes to new ideas yes I guess PoT Rex really is more unique since The Isle's Rex's upcoming abilities are based more on realism or just things a big strong animal can do in general, this just goes to show that even though PoT and The Isle are compared to each other quite a lot and despite both being dinosaur survival games, they are quite different in terms of their target audience, even though their audiences overlap quite a lot, that's why even though I don't play PoT I'm glad it exists.

I'm a bit confused on what you would consider a stereo type. Anky for an example is, in fact, a heavy armored dinosaur with high devense and a devastating tail swing. It just wouldn't make any sense for it to idk... climb trees and be a fast runner. Same with rex having the bone break ability. That's just a fact. They indeed had a enormous bite force and just ignoring that, to not feed a stereo type would be careless. Ofc you can play around a little bit, giving them some extra niche. Like with the concept art of the evrima anky (I think), that can walk underwater like a hippo, but in the end it will stay a tanky dude because thats what it is.

@catpoke9557
@catpoke9557 Год назад
It kinda makes sense if you're wanting to play a fantastical game with fantastical abilities, but even then, most of the abilities will just be exaggerations of pre-existing abilities. For example anky would be EVEN tankier and have an EVEN bigger, stronger tail. T. rex would be EVEN bigger and have an EVEN stronger bite force, capable of like... idk, crushing an entire ship or something. Etc etc. Most abilities would be based on the dinosaur's actual abilities, because that's how you design a game. You take inspiration from something that actually exists.

@@dragon_platypus Flying T. rex would be so funny. If anyone ever does make an absurd game with entirely fantasized dinosaurs, I'd be down for a T. rex with comically large wings... or with super tiny ones and it flaps its arms super fast like a gronckle LOL

@dragon_platypus Год назад
@@catpoke9557 Tbh when I think about how hyenas are able to bite through metal, a T-Rex destroying a ship doesn't even sound too fantastical. But yeah, I get what you mean :D The flying T-Rex reminds me of a little comic I once saw, where a Carnotaurus started to flap his little tiny carno arms until it flew into the sky. Really silly, but funny. Actually rn I'm thinking about how a game would look like, if the dinosaurs would have exactly the ability you would never have guessed. That would be kinda hilarious. Just imagine you're playing an anky that gracefully climbs up even the biggest trees and catches prey with its tongue like a gecko, while a rex flies by. A herd of Brontosaurus is running and jumping with ungodly speed across the fields, like they were deer. Well hidden, under a rock, waits the very heavily armored and unable to fly Pteranodon for this next meal. Behold of it's deadly, venomous bite!

These stereotypes only develop most around the more famous creatures, and I think it is because, since they are more well researched, we know so much about these that there isn’t that much wiggle room with what you want to do. Even the abelisaurid thing makes sense as a stereotype because if you see a fast-moving animal with horns on its head the first thing you're going to think of from a game design perspective is a bull. You're going to give it the mechanics of a bull whether it actually acts like one or not.

@alienstar2088 Год назад
I'm rather torn on this subject. On the one hand, it's nice to get a realistic viewpoint and play style from these in game creatures who are based off of very real animals; on the other hand, I do crave for more unique creature models and abilities for any game. I think that it all largely depends on the feel of the respected game. This topic is more than just the same creatures having the same kits in different games but instead different games going for the same feel. Most Dinosaur Survival games base everything in a state of realism, this means that most creatures within the games are going to be similar to how they were in real life with only one or two notable changes. Note that this will probably vanish in the future when The Isle nears completion since that game is going for a Jurassic Park feel whilst other games like Path of Titans is attempting to be more realistic and genuine to how these creatures were in life. Personally however, I think that many games and many media outlets that cover Dinosaurs have all lacked one key aspect of why I personally love these creatures, that being how alien they are. Despite being real breathing creatures on the very same planet as us sharing family trees with a still existing species, Dinosaurs and the Earth back then has an air of wonder that makes it feel as if it was a completely different planet with alien lifeforms. Personally, I wish more Dinosaur media would seek to encapsulate this feeling, make the Dinosaurs weird but not out of the realm of possibility, speculation should be a huge factor. For example, take what Prehistoric Planet did with Dreadnaughtous, it gave them inflatable sacs that ran down their necks, it was speculative and alien but it was rooted in realism. The same can be and should be done more for any Dinosaur. Take Rex as a next example, it has small arms and no real way of displaying itself to ward off foes or attract mates - obviously it can't dawn bright colors because its an ambush predator, or can it? Rex has one striking part of its body, its massive jaws, now imagine that the inside of a Rex's mouth holds all the bright colors the male needs for display, it's a large surface area on the body that can be easily hidden to hunt. It's alien and speculative but entirely within the realm of possibility. That's what I want to see more of in future Dinosaur Survival games or just Dinosaur media in general.

I personally find Path’s Thalasso the worst counterpart to Isle’s Pteranodon. Not only is Thalasso way too big, but it’s not even a fish hunter like Pteranodon. However that's where PoT's mechanics shine or differ from TheIsle. You can make your Thalasso strictly a meat Eater if you so desire. PoT allows you to change your diet, so could just eat strictly meat. Many Thals do, but if you want to dive and hunt turtles or sharks you can to eat them.

I do not think this is a problem at all. I'm not saying T.rex should be EXACTLY the same in every game but there should be very limited creative liberties. I hate when developers do something stupid just to be different (I'm looking at you Path of Titans). If a cretaure is too unrealistic due to creative liberties it usually ruins the game for me. Things like the Beipiasaurus in evrima for example. They took creative liberties and ruined an otherwise interesting dinosaur by having it share virtually nothing with its real life counterpart. If I find myself playing a dinosaur game where T.rex or some other dinosaur that is in every game, is not pretty much the same as in the other games, I'm uninstalling.

Honestly i hate the fact that in path of titans the only semi aquatics that are good in water and deal good damage on land are sarco and dieno. Concavenator is small, weak and doesnt do a ton of damage plus is sorta slow in water plus the leopluradon is even worse being the same speed as a dieno and a sarco even though it has a more fully aquatic lifestyle plus the fact it goes rediculously slow on land. There is no sort of motivation whatsoever to go into the ocean or stay in it as no one goes in the ocean due to them conregating at hotspots like the green plains river or impact crater. There isnt even anything to seperate or spread players accept from a low water quality wich people dont really notice anyway, they just go to someplace else to get water wich screws the semi acuatics in the area whos main hunting strategy is to wait for something to drink and then jump out. Im aware you have the novi, andrew and ophis but they function in the same way, plus the living relative to whales go super slow in water as well and the novi being super op like an apex, going fast in water on land and jumping redicoulously high wich to me seems a little op. Flyers are also super weak, a fully grown quetz cant even take on 2 raptors let alone a juvi meaning you have to scavenge whereas things like the mora and draco are insanely fast with high damage and stam so they are immpossible to escape from. The land based dinos and mammals are pretty good, but a rex nearly being able to run as fast as a raptor seems a little much. The chaos trike and velloci raptor (althought i do like vellocis content) are way too op like being able to deal a buttload of bleed and venom is one thing but being able to pretty much fly over a lake is a whole new book, plus the chaos trike even with its recent buffs is still super op and annoying to fight as for some reason it does venom and bleed on both its tail and headbutt attacks as well as a stomp ability and im pretty sure hides and calls wich makes it insanely annoying especially when your trying to quest. Honestly the game is good, i love it, but it honestly needs some rebalancing it needs something a bit more fresh just something to make the annoying parts a little less annoying and the fun parts a little more fun. Ik i made a few spelling mistakes my bad i dont use autocorrect on my phone.

All of three of theses games for the most part are somewhat realistic, with BoB being the most wild & arcade like one of them. There’s a point when it’s not a stereotype, tyrannosaurus is same throughout games because they are accurately representing the animal and added it into their game for the purpose of having a high damage, bone breaking, ambush beast. An actual stereotype is venomous or nocturnal dilophosaurus.

Tyrannosaurs by default are traditionally more built as pursuit hunters, not ambush predators. Ambush rex is a relic from when we thought it could run as fast as it did in JP. T. rex has also been found to have great stamina and agility while not being much faster than a human, the polar opposite of what we often see in dino games. Rex is less freddy fazbear and more michael myers. He probably won’t care if you see him at first, and he’ll keep coming. He looks slow, but the thing is, you’re going to have to sit down before he does.

I dont mind stereotypes if they are realistic or kinda realistic with real facts. like, the pachys for sure ran a lot, but the headbut mechanic even tho is fun (frustrating for any other that isnt you) is something its only based on jurassic park media, the same with carnosaurs doing the same. make them have a litte bone break or bleeding would be actually more realistic for their mandible were adapted to hit hard but not bite hard. the rex thing is pretty much how it was, the ceratopsians... we dont know, we can compare with similar animals today and thats where it comes from, bulls, bisons, moose... raptors if not really big were probably pack hunters or hunted small creatures to survive... many of this stereotypes have truth in them but i wish they focused more in realism, or at leat some... cuz the isle isnt realistic, but path of titans its a bit more (even tho it has specicies from jurassic ans cretacic mixed), not entirely but...and i dont beast of bermuda, how realistic it is? when i became interested in this games, i just enjoy playing as a real dino or prehistoric animal, so the way the ggames should be its subjective of course.
