Humans have been walking the planet for around 6 million years. That’s 65 Million years AFTER dinosaurs went extinct. That’s a pretty massive gap of time. Let’s go all the way back - about 252 million years to get the first dinosaur. That means they walked the earth for around 185 million years, far surpassing our time on this planet.
🪙 DONATE:
cash.app/$wtwShow
Those 185 Million years of dino domination are known as the Mesozoic Era, and during this time we got several different Periods.
The Mesozoic Era contained:
The Triassic Period, (for on-screen info, 252 to 201 million years ago)
The Jurassic Period, (201 to 145 million years ago)
And the Cretaceous Period (145 to 66 million years ago)

I would debate the Jurassic period being more popular. More well known, almost definitely. But far more of the most popular dinosaurs were from the Cretaceous period, especially the later half.

I was walking through some fields towards the nearest town a few years ago and a pheasant stalked me the whole time. I’ve never had an encounter with such an audacious bird before or since. It reminded me of the velociraptors from Jurassic Park and really creeped me out how it seemingly had such a strong connection to its ancestral roots.

I think it's a popular fallacy to compare "dinosaur" timespan to hominid timespan. It would be more precise (but not as popular) perhaps to compare human timespan with one theropod lineage like tyrannosaurids or something.

Bacteria! They started out around 3 Billion years ago in our oceans. They lived without oxygen for 1 Billion years before a new type of bacteria existed that used Photosynthesis to survive. Thanks to that bacteria they made our atmosphere full of oxygen! The oldest fossil is that of Dickinsonia, a flat creature up to almost a metre and a half long. But we don’t know what kind of life form it was. The further back we go in time the less we know. It’s all very interesting and changing as we make new discoveries.
