I was lucky enough to see Ronnie James Dio in concert twice. Once solo, and once with Heaven and Hell (Black Sabbath). He was amazing in concert. R.I.P. Ronnie James Dio. You always will be missed, but your music will live on.

Heaven hell is a Black Sabbath song, but I believe that was Dio's band playing it. If you want more Dio Black Sabbath you should check out Children of the sea live with Tony Iommi the legend.

School of 90s recommendation: Tool - Sober, live at Reading, 1993. It's just as good, maybe better, than the studio version. I get chills every time.

It always amazes me when I hear that wonderful huge voice that’s it’s coming out of such a little guy! One of my favorites all the way back to Black Sabbath.

A small man with a great voice. Whatever band he was in; he made the songs special. He composed lots of songs, mostly in the fantasy genre.

I saw Dio on this tour. Dokken opened for them. It was one heck of a show. I don't know if you noticed the flames that flared up at one point. I was on the front row, and man those things were H O T T! Dio was one of the best singers ever. Ozzy is more of a vocalist than a singer. Mad respect for both of their catalogues with Black Sabbath. Love them both. This song, considering I know the studio version backwards and forwards is a 99.9 for me on metal tomatoes. Studio would have been better for Juliette's first exposure. Dio once said that this was the best song he ever wrote. My favorite Sabbath album of all of them, even though I love Ozzy.

Ronnie James Dio was all of 5' 4" . A very short dude. So his theatrics made him look bigger on stage. He was known for popularizing the sign of the horns in heavy metal. He claimed his Italian grandmother used it to ward off the evil eye (which is known in Southern Italy as malocchio). Dio began using the sign soon after joining Black Sabbath in 1979. Yeah you guys should have react to the Black Sabbath version of the song. I mean, Dio did the vocals for it, but it's a Black Sabbath song. Dio's solo band didn't hold a candle to to Geezer Butler and Tony Iommi. Imo the studio version would have been a much better choice. This version is missing half the song and for a lot of it he's ab-libing the lyrics. There is a lot of great solo Dio stuff out there (Holy Diver, Rainbow in the Dark etc.) but this video was a terrible choice for this song (the 80's cheese factor was overwhelming, and this is coming from a guy who grew-up in the 80's). Should have went with Sabbath (constructive criticism. still love your reactions, keep it up)

Great reaction to a absolute classic. I've got 1 suggestion. UFO Rock Bottom with Michael Schenker on guitar from their live album Strangers in the night. Must be this version to appreciate the guitar solo.

Dio sings fantastic. But a version with Black Sabbath (Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, Bill Ward or Vinnie Appice) would have been preferable, as Iommi's guitarsinging is as important as Dio's singing for the song.

DIO was a showman. This song was very representative of Dio themes. He sang a lot of having good and evil coexisting. Always thought his logo was cool. It reads DIO which means God and if you looked at it upside down it looks as if it reads Devil. Don't know if he did this on purpose or it's just something that us 80's youth thought up, but still very cool. RIP Ronnie James Dio. \m/

Thank you for reviewing this song! I was only 16 years old when this album was released and it's still my favorite song. My favorite line is "Love can be seen as the answer, but nobody bleeds for the dancer" I believe it has to do with the idea of God (dancer being an artist, an artist being a creator, a creator emulating God) God bled for us, but we don’t bleed for God.

Consider me biased.. Dio was my introduction to metal.. so not only will I never downvote a Dio song/reaction, but I rate all Dio songs in the high 90's. Iconic vocalist, an excellent showman, and he respected the fans above all else. RIP RJD. Peace

I much prefer the original version. Though I prefer the Ozzy years, Heaven and Hell is arguably their best album. For fun you should look up Dio's first single as a singer, "An Angel is Missing" by Ronnie and the Red Caps from.....1961! Before the Beatles. Ronnie James Dio had an amazing career as an outstanding performer and singer. Every progression of his career proved he was 1 of the greatest song writers and rock singers. With Black Sabbath playing their dynamic music Ronnie's performances seem removed from the music like it was a separate platform that he would narrate over. Whilst Ozzy's voice would emerge from out of the music and was actually a crucial instrument of the band. Ozzy was each of his songs. Like an acclaimed actor plays the part with every ounce of their being. Ozzy was and is the only true voice of Black Sabbath.

If you are not familiar with dragonforce they are, I suppose I would describe them as hyper or extreme power metal, if you think thrash is fast, dragonforce will make thrash sound like easy listening music lol. Flashbacks lol. I graduated high school in 86. I prefer Holy Diver, but in all his performances he was too dramatic for me. I was heavy into Metallica, Iron Maiden and GnR back then.

Everybody knows Ozzy because of marketing and politics in the business, but Dio and Tony Martin were the two best vocalists in Black Sabbath hands down.

I liked the video but I'm wondering why you didn't use the original Sabbath version. There's live versions of that. You didn't get the Iommu and Geezer parts which are really a part of the song. You didn't get that here. It's not just Dio.
