Gee, I could watch this all day. In about 2 weeks I can be doing it for real. You psyche me up!! I've gotta talk to Pa about getting one of these Dion heads. Being able to go crossways can really save some time.
That is one incredible hungry machine, I assume you have a cattle operation. I am in SW Illinois and it seems each harvest season that someone gets tangled up in a drive belt or chain or gearing, you have probably heard it before. Excellent drone footage, I think I saw it land near the end of the vid. Good job!!!
Thank you Paul. That unit does a really good job. I have heard of bad stories where guys have been tangled up in the belts or chains also. I hope it never happens
I chop about 50 acres sweet corn every year after it is hand picked. It is all chopped into green feed wagons & fed green - the greener the better. Makes really good green chop to keep the mama cows & calves happy when pastures taper off production.
Growing up all the other harvesting operations I got to see and do, but it seemed chopping corn was done so fast that it was over by time I got out of school and basketball practice so I missed that. Filling a 10 x 35 and a 14 x 40 with two wagons was done in about 4 days. This is by far a favorite harvest operation, thanks. The Dion head makes life much better, here we thought a self propelled four row chopper was the limit lol
Hey mike just sitting looking at some.of your videos Just wanted wish you and all your families a safe and a Happy Merry Christmas and a super new year Do you have any snow up there.
He Nice to watch,, overhere in the netherlands almost every farmer uses contracters whit selfpropelled choppers which have Kemper fronts, question is sweet corn tasting sweet or is it just the ear ,thanks Mike have a good day greetings from a Dutch dairyfarmer and looks like i am first again now i am going for the holiday of i am first the next time
If we don't make our turns too good we can knock some down. It does a pretty good job picking up the down corn. If you watch on the part where the camera is on the chopper you can see it pulling some down/bent corn into the feederhouse
Thank you Matthias. This wasnt regular grain corn this was sweet corn. the gaps in between were the different varieties. when we started to chop the sweet corn we were still picking the last variety so we kept chopping in a circle the other varieties so thats why there were big gaps
@@mikep7810 Hi Mike, I really miss farming we live in Mi. I grew up on a dairy farm we milked 250 about and farmed around 600 acres. But a few life changes happen and Dad ended up selling out in 2005. I really miss it every day. That’s y I love watching your videos. Keep it up! U are doing a good job!
mikep7810 yes it is but he’s going to sell the chopper and probably go self propelled because me and him put are dairy’s herds together and know have 105 cows
We usually do go with the rows. This field was sweet corn and it was planted that way to be walked through and picked. The good thing about this head is a lot of guys that use it go continuously around not just with the rows.
@@leost.pierre7205 Sometimes when the wagon is almost loaded but not enough room for a full row I'll go down the front against the rows to top off the load
Thank you. We normally do not chop it. We plant it to sell the corn and a lot of it was picked. We were just out of corn silage so we chopped it this year.
Thank you Chris. As much as I love being in the tractors working, it is nice to focus on flying and not doing both. Just focus on getting some good footage.
I'm assuming you mean the chopper. It all depends the year and model you want. One of the dealerships we deal with has a 2008 FP240 (like this one) for 33 grand. That doesn't include the hay head or the corn head. That Dion F64 corn head is around 20 grand
it was answered with the 'we are just feeding out of the wagon for now till the silo is finished' ....that was the answer right? you choppin it all up for CRITTER FOOD ????
Yes corn silage is the whole corn plant chopped up and we use it for feed for the cows. We are feeding out of the wagon with this but the next field we are going to unload it in the silo and feed it out of the silo
Coffee with Mike this morning. The drone shots give a good look at your dad's sweet corn. It's a good sized patch he has there. The dion head gives you options in direction of cut which is helpful with some of the shape and size fields we have. Thumbs up see you on the next one
Thanks Scott. Its definitely a great corn head. I've chopped before where another full row will be too much for the wagon so I go down the front to top off the load. Its pretty nice
Nice looking set up you got there. Wish I was back in the states for harvest but seeing you running some beautiful equipment in upstate NY brings joy keep up the great content thank you
How many different choppers have u used over the years and any brand in your mind run better ? How about a property tour that river is kool that runs along your property 😀
I saw a nice john deere forage wagon for 980 $ on line ha , New Holland makes great haying and forage equipment, i went by the new Holland palnt in newholland pa , kool place , my cousin uses a john deere model dustbin moco nice machine and new holland chopper
Thank you. I wouldn't even know to be honest with you. With nice thick corn and really sharp blades I'm sure you could really push out the tons per hour
We have an old tie stall barn that has 52 stalls. Most of the year we keep the barn pretty full. We have an addition That Ts off the barn thats about 16 stalls that we keep dry cows in. What brand of milking robots do you have?
Hard to believe it's corn cutting time already. Seems like a couple weeks ago I was watching your corn planting videos. 4555 handles that chopper pretty easily. Very good video quality with the camera you are using.
