@@labratamber Barry Gibb wrote this with his brothers and ranks only after Paul McCartney as a songwriter. TWO great talents...Barry and Dionne, with Barry singing background vocals.
I saw an interview with Barry and he said that when he asked Dionne about doing this song she said no. He said she repeatedly told him no but he kept asking. Finally she said yes and it turned out to be a #1 hit. Thank you Barry for your persistence. This is a beautiful song and I can't imagine anyone else singing it.
Hmmm I dunno where you have heard it but she already had a rack of number 1 hits in Adult Contemporary and R&B charts way before Heartbreaker. In fact, Heartbreaker never reached number 1 in Billboard's Hot 100.
@@oldsoul_anth243 you know I can't remember where I read that or watched that interview and of course I can't find it now. ☹ I did Google her #1 hits and you're right. And the highest Heartbraker ranked in the US was #10. I sure wish I could find that interview.
@@theresalacey6126 No worries. I mean you were right about Ms. Warwick turning this song down for several times until they finally convinced her. Ms. Dionne Warwick is one of the Bee Gees' idols and that they decided to create this song for her. As well, believe it or not, Ms. Warwick initially turned down her biggest hits, Then Came You (her first Billboard Hot 100 number 1), Do You Know the Way to San Jose and Heartbreaker.
It's sad that such a gifted and successful artist went bankrupt. Even she didn't write the song she should get a fraction of the royalties considering she made them so famous.
@@ruthiehensh It's alright. I guess she's really doing well now. It's just the financial management that caused her bankrupt. But you know she enjoyed taking millions of records sold and she even got the highest record deal for a female artist during her time.
Amen..i remember her Her singing This on Solid Gold 1982. Bee Gees, such Great Song Writers.. Too bad they are gone but for one. Thats a Career Goal. Become a Solid Goal Dancer 😊
2024 & beyond this song will always forever be a masterpiece thanks Dionne for singing this great version thanks to the Bee Gees for creating both their version & Dionne’s
Yet again 'The Bee Gees' at their best visionary writing, knowing exactly who they wanted to sing this. Dionne Warwick absolutely nails this, and I cannot imagine anyone else could better this!! Fabulous from start to finish.
The beautiful Nata, an American singer of all times, will never be forgotten in world music circles, unforgettable, most of them are no longer here, what a cool tribute from this channel, posting these videos, brings me great memories of my youth. Brazil.
Dionne Warwick as a singer is All Class. No fancy pyrotechnics, just hitting all the notes spot on and letting her pure beautiful voice stand out along with the song. She's Fantastic !
The Bee Gees wrote so many brilliant songs. Heartbreaker is right up there with the very best - and absolutely no-one could have delivered it better than Dionne Warwick did. Pure Magic!
Did you know in the last few years they were around, the Bee Gees also recorded their own version of this song, with Barry Gibb singing lead throughout
@@adrianrickards27 Yes I listen to that a lot Adrian, totally amazing harmonies from the amazing Bee Gees and I can't really separate the two versions ..... each unique - & both get 11 out of 10 for me!
@@mike999alpha I heard this version first, back when we had record players and 33 and 1/3 LPs. Fell in love with the song instantly. Didnt realize until years later that the Gibb brothers wrote it and then I knew why. Those chord progressions-amazing. Then I heard their version. I love this music.
Great song, written by an even greater group, sung by a beautiful lady. I have never seen Dionne looks so beautiful. That song hits me hard in the heart. Tears flow like rain.
Masterpiece of Bee Gees in the wonderful voice of the great Dionne Warwick...I listen it again and again...maybe because you can't stop of enjoying such an amazing musical piece!!!
She is so beautiful and sings like an angel. I've always loved her voice. I knew that the Bee Gee's wrote this song for her, but I never noticed until now they can be heard singing harmony on the chorus. Awesome!
Isn't she? So lovely and that beautiful, smooth voice... I remember singing her songs into a hair brush with my older sister and my cousin. We always sang those classics by the most awesome, beautiful ladies; Dionne, Barbra, Gladys, Donna, Diana, Mary Wells, Cher... They are the absolute best!
I love love this song. When I was a little girl this was my Mother favorite song, and I would be singing along with her. This song still hit hard as if it was brand new.. Dionne Warwick is absolutely amazing and her song would always be a legacy.... ❤❤❤❤🥰🥰🥰🥰🙏🏽
Robin Gibb, Barry Gibb, and Maurice Gibb should have a statue commissioned in their honor. For many they can only think: BeeGees = 'Disco' BUT these brothers made musical magic throughout their career.
They do. In Redcliffe, Brisbane, Australia - where they spent some time as young boys growing up. They are not Australian though... they were in fact born on the Isle of Man.
Yup Best of British Rule Brittania they all come in threes no one does it better than the Bee Gees but hang on yes there were actually four and their Legacy will live forever in our hearts for ever more.
She's Beautiful as well!,I absolutely 💘 love that Women, that Voice of her's Just make's me melt!,STRYKING BEAUTY!,too say nothing about her Conquering majestic Voice what a Treasure!I 💘 love you Dionne!.
This song has to be one of the all time classics that should be in everyone's music playlist of favorite songs ever, it's timeless and is still good after all these years,
Dionne sang the hell out of this song! This song WAS MADE for her voice!! No one could have sung it better! Bee Gees brilliant song writers! Nothing WILL EVER COMPARE to The Brothers Gibb!❤😥
You can hear them singing right along with her too She's right in stride with them. I'll bet they played some dates on tour with each other doing this song as guest appearances
Linda...linda...simplesmente linda demais.
@@user-yj2dy3sy7g Nem me fala meu nobre amigo, nem me fala... Mas somos previlegiados por ter vivido tal época que jamais esqueceremos e que deixou muitas saudades. Grande abraço e tamu junto e misturado...
Simply love this song and the BeeGees in the chorus.....doesn't overpower Dionne but compliments her vocal ability so splendidly. This will always be one of my favourites
2024... almost 40 years ago I heard this song for the first time and I didn't listen it again until now, and now it sounds much better to me, brilliant voice and impeccable interpretation
Dear David. I'm so sorry about my coments. You are not off the track and Dionne is a fantastic ''American'' singer, but Shirley is way more ''International''. There is no one quite like her, She has been in the business for more than 60 years... I also like Nancy Wilson she is amazing and was lucky enough to kiss the woman... That's another story, Au revoir !
This song is pure genius songwriting, the lyrics, the melody, it's pure perfection. Dionne Warwick sings it perfectly too. No wailing (Adele), no shouting ( Adele), no vocal acrobatics(Mariah Carey), like you hear from female singers today.
itsonelouder eleven Vocal acrobatics aren't a bad thing, they show insane vocal abilities and agility. Dionne is just a different type of voice. Mariah on the other hand is known for being able to create magic with her inhuman melismas and octave jumps, she's not The SongBird Supreme and one of if not the Greatest Vocalist Of All Time for no reason. And Mariah is not a female singer "of today", she belongs to the old generation of Legends.
Back in the 80's I was just a teen and Dionne was one of those "grownup" entertainers but shen she sang her sounds still pulled my young ears in and made my hum along.
Wonderful song❤❤❤❤ I appreciate it so much more.I just love listening to an old but real gold music,,the emotions never fade with perfect artist who sang it and especially to the creator behind this lovely song.
One of my all time fav songs. I just read this today on Wiki: Maurice Gibb, who was a co-writer of this song commented, "I cried my eyes out after we wrote it. I drove home and thought, 'We should be doing this one', and when she did it, it was brilliant. We sang on it, and it still became like a duet between the Bee Gees and Dionne Warwick". Warwick admitted in The Billboard Book of Number One Adult Contemporary Hits by Wesley Hyatt that she was not fond of "Heartbreaker" (regarding the song's international popularity, she quipped, "I cried all the way to the bank"), but recorded it because she trusted the Bee Gees' judgment that it would be a hit. It turned out to be Dionne's most successful solo hit of the 1980s.
BilisNegra Warwick did a fine performance, but it's sad she had no involvement except for the sake of cash. Even worse, this is song was a cherished childhood memory to me.
+BilisNegra Agreed. That was disappointing for me to hear also but I still won't let it tarnish my fond memories of growing up with this otherwise amazing song. I'm just amazed that she didn't see the same beauty in this song that all of us fans did.
waqqodonkey Ditto! I was a sophomore--how I yearn for my youth. You really hit the nail on the head---the memories...I too, wish [everyday] that I could re-live my childhood again. Sigh....
John Klett yes Bee Gees sad great awesome singers . even though they sound like birds I don't men Thain a critical way it does not matter they still had a great voice
YES, April acutlally!!!! she is sitting down and actually singing like that.... LIVE with NO autotune!!!! omigosh!!!!!!!!!!!I love you so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
