Dionne has always covered other people's songs. Particularly in her concerts, she has done quite a bit of Earth, Wind And Fire tunes. But practically every week on Solid Gold, Dionne would duet with someone on their hit song.

I am glad you enjoyed this performance, and, as far as I can remember, the only time EWF performed on our show was during the second season doing “Let’s Groove“. As for your other questions - well, even though I was the musical director for all of the seasons of SOLID GOLD, I unfortunately can’t remember everything we ever did on the show. Then again, anyone who can tell me what days of the year it was raining in 1986, should certainly be able to Google the answers to those questions too. 😜

Since you mentioned that "Let's Groove" had been performed during the second season of "Solid Gold" (1981-1982), I wonder if you have the video for that show. As far as recalling rain in the Los Angeles region in January 1986, I recall that there was some very strange weather that month. It was highs in the 80s and 90s in late January 1986, including on the 28th, the day the Space Shuttle Challenger met its tragic fate over Florida, where it was below freezing at ground level and that had contributed to the O-ring failure. It was hot in Los Angeles until a cold front moved in just in time for the end of the month, January 31. It poured rain and temperatures dropped precipitously. The following day the storm had cleared and the weather had been cooler to begin February 1986. However, by late March 1986 there were tornado warnings for Los Angeles. 1986 was a weird weather year and people think it is weird now. Anyway, back to EWF, which is an aptly titled band in discussion about the weather, the Dionne Warwick/Maurice White performance was as smooth as silk on "After The Love Is Gone." That is right up there with my favorites of theirs as a "slower" beat song, but "Let's Groove" is their fast-beat best to me. I have tried Google searches for "Solid Gold" material and have found kind of fragmented information. Some are old websites that appear to have not been updated since 2004, while some others are more current but not complete. Wikipedia has information on the show, maybe the most anywhere online, but not an episode guide that which is complete. It would be nice to have a centralized resource for episode guides online for "Solid Gold" and "Madame's Place." Maybe that will come together some day. I know that it would be hard to recall every moment of the show- I believe there were 332 episodes in total!!! That was a lot of work that went into that "great little show." I write that affectionately, as when the show was on that many might have taken it for granted. I did not, but a lot of the young viewers might have, not realizing how good it was, but finding solace in that there is a bit of a nostalgia fest for "Solid Gold" online so many years later. Many have a renewed or newfound appreciation for "Solid Gold" and your video contributions, such as this latest, helps foster that. I think that for every commenter there must be many more who feel similarly. Anyway, Dionne Warwick and the other hosts would sing so many songs of others on "Solid Gold" in addition to their own hits that it would have been nice to have had a "Solid Gold" album collection of studio versions of their "Solid Gold" cover songs as well as their own. There is that one RCA album, entitled "Solid Gold," released in early 1983 with Marilyn McCoo having done cover songs from 1982 that which had been on the show. I had found a fully intact new-in-plastic- wrap version online in 2013 when it was 30 years old but not ever used, in vinyl format. It played very well. I do not know if you had been involved with that album, but it had appeared that it might have been meant for more albums like that, but had not materialized. "Solid Gold" was the most unique music show in American television history.🙂 Thank you for your contributions to the show and helping the music to have "magic" and to continue the legacy of the show and its associated participants, both in front of and behind the cameras, online with your increasingly popular RU-vid channel.
