Best video I've seen for dippers. I hope Pops is well on the road to recovery. We called at Warton Craggs on the 14th of April, no sign of the peregrines, the local ranger said there had been no sightings. Hopefully, they will return.

Fabulous video Dan, worth a coffee. The dipper has been a favourite bird of mine for many years, great to watch them doing their eponymous thing. You have captured some superb stills. I often struggle with the exposure of its white breast in sunlight, the lighting you had I guess helped with this isuue, without the need for exposure compenstaion?
@danwillis_photography
@danwillis_photography 2 месяца назад
Thanks very much Rob I appreciate it. The conditions definitely helped with the exposure as I know exactly what you mean about their white chest it can be very tricky without exposure compensation. I do find that the metering mode you use can help with this as well 👍🏻

Dippers are amongst my favourite birds and I love photographing them. Went to usual place at milldale Tuesday, but alas the river was very high and very fast flowing, so not productive. Am keeping an eye on water levels, nearest data is at dovedale. Levels are high still but reducing. I see you are using the 180-600 on this video, thinking about getting it. How would you rate image quality?
@danwillis_photography
@danwillis_photography 2 месяца назад
Dippers are also amongst my favourite birds. Dovedale is a favourite haunt of Pops and mine when the conditions are right. The 180-600 is a fantastic lens, so incredibly versatile and the image quality is amazing. The focusing speeds are really good and this was one of the areas people have negatively commented on, I had no problems with it tbh! The only downside is the lowlight capability, with a maximum aperture of 6.3 you can expect working in high ISO 👍🏻
@Bird_in_camera
@Bird_in_camera 2 месяца назад
@@danwillis_photography my Z8 and Z9 handle high ISO so that doesn't concern me, and using DXO pure raw 4 or topaz denoise makes processing more easy with a pleasing result. I have the 800 which is 6.3, also have the 500 and 300 pf f mount lenses along with a ftz and f mount 1.4 tc and am thinking of selling my f mounts stuff to save clutter and some spare cash. Everyone I ask seem to rate image quality highly, even online reviews etc. So its seeming to be a good move.

Lovely well made video Dan...hope Pops is well on the mend. I did think for a brief moment that Part 3 may become "Disaster..I smash Pops's Z9 and 180-600mm on the rocks!"....re that lens, how did you find the 180-600mm? I'bought one on Saturday as although I've got the 800mm (perfect for my Barn Owls etc) and the 100-400 (landscapes, macro, perfect travel lens) the 180-600 seemed perfect for the bigger mammals (Foxes, deer, otters etc) and great reviews and a great (relative ) price so interested to hear how you found it for flexibility, low light handheld etc......Maybe an idea for a future video when Pop is back you could compare your views on the gear you use ?...Also if you don't mind me asking is that a Blackrapid strap you're using and how do you find it ? Keep up the great content as I know how tough these videos are to make and only found your channel a couple of months ago and all very entertaining

Thanks very much Nigel I really appreciate it. I have to say the thoughts of the video title certainly crossed my mind as well as I descended that very slippery steep path 😱 I am definitely going to do a video on the 180-600 lens. Personally I think it’s a truly amazing piece of kit with its only Achilles being its ability to handle low light but tbh even that is negligible. Between Pops and me we have a good spread of wildlife focused lenses and so a comparison video is definitely on the cards 👍🏻 As for the strap, it’s not a black rapid (although I do own one of those). It’s a Peak Design, Slider. I love the way you can attach and detach the strap through the anchor points on lens and body which is so useful. Hope that answers your questions mate, all the best 👍🏻
