The madman on drums, Terry Williams, made a comment on one of these videos. He said he's still "bangin' on the bongos like a chimpanzee." That's a line from Money For Nothing. And yes indeed, Mark Knopfler is one of the world's greatest guitar players, & also a great storyteller.
Tank, this was a two day live recording , for a World Tour they were doing. They rehearsed for two months, before the tour and they got their set down so tight. They were famous for putting much more into their live shows!! They were considered the biggest band, in the mid - eighties and the drummer the best in the world, at that time. ( he never thought so, he was a real quiet man, from Wales. But he was asked to play with some of the greatest musicians of the time!!)
YESSSS TANK!!!! FN love this performance and song!!! They just chill!! Except that drummer. Still the sickest live drumming I’ve seen!! Lmao 🎸🥁🥁🥁🥁🔥🎧🎧. Thanks Tank!!!💪💪🎧😎
TANK SULTANS OF SWING 😂😂. Basically Kings Of Swing”? No? That’s the most confident I’ve seen a band! Just undressing that guitar to hell!!! 🎸🎸🎸. Drummer is insane!! 🥁🤣🔥. That lead vocalist/guitarist I think Name is Mark Klopfner?? He’s a genius!! One of the other guitarists is his brother I’m pretty sure!! I just think this particular performance is a borderline Masterpiece in my opinion!! Love it!! 🎸🥁🔥💪😎👏
Nearly, it's Mark Knopfler. His brother David played on the original studio version, but they had a falling out and he left the band. The rhythm guitarist on this is his replacement Hal Lindes. Oh yeah, and you're right Mark Knopfler is a musical genius and this is a masterpiece!
JJ C. Thanks!! I can’t mess up a legends name like that lol I just couldn’t search at that point 😂. Yeah he’s great! That drummer was fire also! Amazing!
@BigPeteS You said it perfect!! This entire song is amazing. BUT, all the years I heard it, now after hearing & seeing this live version right here.. aka #eargasm .. I can’t go back to the studio version!! 🔥 🎸 🥁 🎹 🎤✌🏻 It’s too damn magical!! And yes Mark is definitely one of the or the best guitarist ever! 💯. The drummer takes it in and out so freaking smooth it’s insane! ✌🏻
@Becky Starr 😂😂 Agreed it gave me an “eargasm” lol. I have heard that term before and it’s true! 😂🤔 Of course I love the studio version but this particular live performance is EPIC 🔥. Ehhh lol 😉😎
I think you're pretty well respected when they name a newly discovered Dinosaur species after you. "In 2001, British scientists named a dinosaur they discovered after Mark Knopfler. They named the dinosaur, which was discovered in Madagascar, "Masiakasaurus Knopfleri" as a tribute to Knopfler. They were Princess Diana's favorite rock group." www.songfacts.com/facts/dire-straits
I'll go ahead and request I Think I Love You Too Much by Dire Straits and featuring Eric Clapton from the Knebworth '90 concert. You can find the performance here on RU-vid. Sadly the song never made it onto a Dire Straits studio album, although Mark Knopfler did play and sing backing vocals on The Jeff Healy Band's cover version on their Hell To Pay album. Both are great, but the live version with Knopfler on his Pensa Suhr MK1 guitar is phenomenal.
One of my favourite bands from back in the day. Such a unique , smooth , laid back sound. Hope you get around to check out their song "Brothers in Arms". Like I mentioned in my last comment , great video to go along with the song. 🔥🔥🔥
Nah, it's Hal Lindes not David Knopfler with those hip thrusts! David was on the original studio version, but he left the band after a major falling out with Mark and Hal replaced him. Dire Straits had other rhythm guitarists over the years including Jack Sonni and Phil Palmer. Eric Clapton played with them at a number of live shows too including The Nelson Mandela Birthday Tribute concert and at Knebworth (along with Palmer).
JJ C thanks don't know where I got that from. I saw them at the Rainbow December 1980 with this guy in the line up. Along with Queen July 86 probably two of the best I saw live.
@@eturfrey I envy you seeing Dire Straits live. I've seen Mark on his own a few times and he's always great, but Dire Straits in their heyday must have been quite something.
JJ C All a long time ago now, December 1980 think it was a couple of days before Christmas. Hal had not long joined the band after Dave left. Probably why I confused the pair, totally forgot how the pair of them looked. Mark you never forget..
Mark Knopfler: *performs one of the best solos in history while laughing and jumping around* This youtuber pointing at Han Lindes playing two chords: *wow, this guy's cardio is amazing*
@@joguipo Sure, it's not a big prob, is young but reading "this guy" about MK it was weird for me (a bit 'as the people who reading my "google-eng" language 😀😉).
