About Us.
I share our organic homestead, called Byther Farm, with my loving partner, Mr J and our cat, Monty.
We are a fifty-something couple who live on a smallholding in Monmouthshire, Wales. We are going green and creating a gentler, cleaner and more healthy life for our family.
There is a large organic kitchen garden with no dig gardening raised beds and young food forest in which to grown our fruit and vegetables.
I'm currently exploring permaculture farming as a way of life.
We keep hybrid chickens and also have breeding flocks of Jersey Giants and Australorp chickens and Aylesbury ducks.

That's a nice sized polytunnel. If your Tom's grow up to the top you'll need a trampoline to harvest the top trusses.

Thanks Stephen, I'm amazed at how much I've been able to grow in the polytunnel so far. I suspect it will take a couple of years for me to work out how fast food grows in there compared to in our windy garden - I'm going to enjoy experimenting :-)

Hi Vinny, thanks for dropping by. If you do decide to buy a Direct Plants polytunnel, please let them know that you saw my video - I'm not on commission, but it'd be great for them to know that you've seen it. I think it's pretty easy to keep fig trees in check which means that they might indeed fit nicely in a polytunnel.

Hi there could you tell me how your green house is doing now any issues with damage
@LizZorab
@LizZorab 4 года назад
Hello John, it has stood up to the weather really well, I have no concerns about it standing up to strong winds on our site. It has been damaged by the local cats when they decided to use the corners of it as a scratching post and then shimmy their way to the top of the frame, but that has been repaired using the repair tape that is now supplied with the kits. All in all, 9 months later I am still really pleased with it!
@indiancruise12

You did forget to mention that all support poles are not included. You have to buy them separately. As for being sturdy well without cross bars along the sides it will not last long , basic architecture rules applies. The film covering is not really good quality it rips easily. Love the height, I will be moving to a bigger house and will put up a polygreen house.

Do you have one of these from polytunnels direct?
@mickshield5793
@mickshield5793 4 месяца назад
I've bought the exact same polytunnel but, after sinking the foundation poles, they began to show signs of rust within a week 😕 rather disconcerting as if they rust as much when buried it's not going to last long! I've contacted direct plants and they're sending new poles but I'm afraid that it will just happen again. Not very happy at all because I took a lot of time investigating polytunnels and the fact that direct plants state on their website that the poles are corrosive resistant swung it for me...I've got news for them...they arent! Very disappointed 😒
@LizZorab

No sign of corrosion on the ground poles in either of our polytunnels from Direct Plants.

Does the walls not being clear affect anything.

Yes, it protects the plants from becoming scorched in the height of summer, just as glasshouses are shaded when the sun is bright.

Hi Liz, why two doors?

To increase the air circulation. One door at the end where the strong winds blow, two at the other end to let the hot air out of the polytunnel.
