Direct Silk Painting Technique

Thanks for your interest. Let me see if I can help you. PLEASE NOTE, I use Dye-Na-Flow silk paints on all of these instructive videos. I make my colours lighter by adding water, and sometimes white. 2. I am familiar with Setasilk, but have never used them. REMEMBER, to read the labels of the silk colour that you are using, for proper use as well as for proper heat-setting, finishing. 3. I have found that too many layers of silk paints or dyes, is what causes the silk to feel a bit stiff after the washing out process. I try not to do that. This is not canvas, which is thick, and can take the layers if colour. ( I learnt that the hard way.) I do hope this helps. There was a question that I could not understand. Please try again. Dear Academics Central, I did a bit more research on the Setasilk paints, and found that there is a Setasilk Extender which can be used to make softer, pastel colours, if one does not want to use water. ( These silk paints are also very like Dye-Na-Flow silk paints. I still prefer cold water washing to dry cleaning every time!) Hope this helps.👌🏾🖌✨

Thanks for your interest Preetie Singh. Go back and look at the video again, slowly. I painted a light wash on the silk , and let it dry thoroughly. Then I applied the top colours. NB. By applying the light wash, it helps to stop the top colours from spreading as if on virgin silk. Hope this helps.🖌✨

Good Afternoon Lana, Thanks for your interest and for your question. Depending on the theme that I am using, I sometimes prepare the silk scalf, by painting a light coloured wash as a base, the day before. This base colour, helps to slow the movement of the silk paints, so that there isn't too much movement, as if one were painting on virgin silk. There is NO thickener added to the silk paints. ( This is why, I paint a light coloured wash. ) The silk paints I use are called Dye-Na-Flow silk paints, which are made to the consistency of dyes, and are heat-set with a HOT iron. I purchase these paints from Dharma Trading in California. They are quite helpful, and do ship internationally. Thanks again, and all the best! Este color base, ayuda a ralentizar el movimiento de las pinturas de seda, para que no haya demasiado movimiento, como si se estuviera pintando sobre seda virgen. NO se agrega espesante a las pinturas de seda. (Es por eso que pinto un lavado de color claro). Las pinturas de seda que uso se llaman pinturas de seda Dye-Na-Flow, que están hechas con la consistencia de los tintes y se fijan con calor con una plancha CALIENTE. Compro estas pinturas de Dharma Trading en California. Son muy útiles y se envían internacionalmente. ¡Gracias de nuevo y todo lo mejor!

Good Morning Malkanthi, I am using Dye-Na-Flow paints, which are manufactured to the consistency of dyes, and are quite vibrant in colour. They are heat-set with a hot iron. Washed out with Synthrapol industrial wash, ironed and ready for use. (I purchase these paints from Dharma Trading, based in California. www.dharmatrading.com) Thanks for your interest.
