Ever wondered what a E4 tornado looks like up close?
May 28, 2019 at 6:43 pm right before the tornado hit I decided to take a GoPro and clamp it to one of our t- post. Knowing full well I would more than likely never see that GoPro again!
As the we tornado hit our house the pressure was intense! It felt like your head shrunk and was being pushed in and then your ear drums exploded. The pressure blew door frames out of the rooms, it bent the support beams in the basement, shattered windows, tore our dining room off the house, etc, but we were alive! We walked out to see our posessions spread all over out yard as well as everyone elses.
After it was all said and done we lost two Chevrolet trucks ( one truck was thrown over 50 yards), one 18 foot Tracker Boats Grizzly 1860 (That was never found), one 12 foot Lowe Boats 14 foot wide jon (That we found nearly 3/4 of a mile away), 18 foot Croft Trailer Supply enclosed trailer full of Greenhead Gear full body duck and goose decoys (Found in pieces 800 yards from where they started), we lost our barn and we lost the house and countless memories and contents.
For Jessica to walk back with the tiny Gopro in her hand 2 days after the tornado has hit was something I never imagined would happen. Neighbors mail and memories were strung across miles (pictures and mail found 70 miles from their homes!) so to find the GoPro in our field 100 yards away was amazing!
Watching the footage and hearing the news recap everyone has said it was one tornado that was 1 mile wide, wind speeds reach 170 mph. The tornado was on the ground for 31.82 miles! We would love to hear your opinions! To me in this video it looks like two tornados, spinning opposite directions almost like an egg beater!
Since the tornado hit we have a much restored faith in our humanity. The amount of volunteers, firemen, friends and complete strangers who have shown up to help try and put our lives back together has been overwhleming. We have never been ones to ask for help but times like these a mass clean up is impossible to do alone - and we're forever grateful for everyone that has helped us this past week!

I'm an NWS senior meteorologist nearing the end of my nearly 30-year career (rotating shiftwork is much harder in your 50s than your 20s, but I don't regret anything and lived out my childhood dream). First and foremost, y'all have my family's thoughts out to you for losing really everything, including the memories you spoke of. I hope your family has been able to pick up the pieces and start over. Great footage by the way. I've have worked in KS once upon a time in the mid-late 90s, but not your area and all the way across the state in NW KS (actually loved it there and my wife of 27 years was from Littleton, CO, so it worked out nice for her being close to family at the time). I have worked in 5 NWS offices, with this last one the bulk of that career and just celebrated 20 yrs here (no, not in KS, but a ways to your S-SSW). I have done my share of surveys in KS, NE, TX, and MS and have seen and spoken to others like you that have lost everything. Can't tell you how many people have cried on my shoulder, wanted a hug, were still in complete shock (who wouldn't be?!), or all of the above. I work for a great agency where people, whether internally, or our partners and the public have been awesome (mostly anyway). They say "it takes an army and faith". Appears y'all had that and your contribution (and sacrafice) does not go unnoticed.

This video still gives us chills when we watch it! It is a terrible time in our lives but no doubt brought us all closer together! Between this and add covid to the back end when we were just finishing the rebuild it has been a tough few years but we have come out better and stronger as a family, as people and we regret nothing! Thank you for reaching out!

To find the video was amazing. The tornado was 1.5 miles wide when it hit us. We knew we were in bad trouble. The t post that the gopro was hooked to was sucked from the ground which is why when the gopro hit the ground it shut off.

Wow. amazing video.. I think that's the first vid I've seen where someone actually got a camera right inside a strong tornado (would have been even more interesting if it'd kept recording after taking off til the point when it landed ). ---- In the description you said "To me in this video it looks like two tornadoes". Sounds like the main tornado and a satellite vortex...from what I've heard, this storm was doing stuff like that (and also its not uncommon for it to happen on large tornadoes.) On and that's a hell on an inflow on the right side! Glad you & family made it out safely.
@FlatlandersTV
@FlatlandersTV 5 лет назад
A lot of meteorologists have told me the right side spinning is the beaver tail that is where it actually feeds the main giant tornado!
@XmasLightsGuy

I wish we'd been able to see what this same location looked like afterwards...tornado videos like this one unfortunately don't usually show very much because there's so much rain and the camera lenses get covered by windblown debris as well. So everything gets dark grey and you only can see some indications of movement, and not much else.

@@FlatlandersTV I actually live halfway across the world from The USA, somewhere where Tornadoes usually don't happen more than a few times per year. I just recognize the clouds is all.
