Jongho’s high note can fill a stadium even without a mic. (It happened. His mic went out, he carried on, and attendees reported that they could still hear him perfectly.)
This! This exactly! There are clips of other idols doing interviews while Ateez have been onstage in the background and you can hear Jongho over the interview. He’s just a vocal king. Love it!
Ateez actually won this round (and the next too)! It's extra impressive when you remember what all they had going on at the time. Mingi was out on his hiatus, and none of them ever felt right on stage without him also there. Mnet also decided to have the show finally start filming right when Ateez had a comeback. Between music shows, practicing this stage, another music show, filming this (and Kingdom were 20-30+ hour long shoots), and then ANOTHER music show, they didn't have time to go back to their apartment for 3 days straight, taking power naps whenever they could, you can even see Yeosang pinching himself to stay awake in a video for The Show. They ended up getting the win for this on the same day they got a win for Fireworks. Which is great with all the hard work they put into it, like they included Hongjoong sleeping in his studio while trying to work out what song to mix with Wonderland. It was a really hard time for them, they were extremely mistreated by the show and production, missing Mingi, doing the comeback as well as 2 festivals (kcon and uni-con), they were still filming the drama half of them were in, Imitation, two rounds of Immortal Songs (Rain and Psy, won both), and the charity stream where we got a Bruno Mars cover. On top of Yeosang starting to work as an MC on The Show the week before Kingdom started to film. And then fans of other groups were nasty to the point that KQ had to put out a statement warning they would take action, and opened an email just for us to report the worst of it. (I'm no narc, but Jesus some of it was so bad). Some fandoms were so mad Ateez won 2 weeks in a row they ended up getting rules changed, and companies actively prevented their groups from voting for them. And to top it off, San's grandpa who he was extremely close to died a week before the finale. Hongjoong mentioned in a live (with Seonghwa agreeing) a year later that he couldn't watch the Kingdom stages because of how rough it was on all of them at the time. And San recently said how this stage was the most stressed out he's ever been.
This was THE performance. I think Rhythm Ta is equally good and Answer tugs on my heartsrings the most but this is the one I would show to everyone, even not kpop fans. It's just masters of their craft going at it!
I agree… rhythm ta is my personal favorite because i know their storyline and i’m an atiny… but this is what i show non atiny to introduce them… i showed this to my husband and now it’s part of our morning drive routine… he loves this version more than the original too hahahaha
Seonghwa uses a sword instead of a rifle to kill the kraken during the live performances (usually a broadsword, but he uses a katana in Japan). It’s so freaking hot. Ateez were absolute monsters during Kingdom, not only did they have to remix & learn new songs & choreos, but they were also gearing up for their Deja Vu comeback & finishing promotions for Fireworks.
i started watching Kingdom for SKZ and after seeing THIS ----- my god, it BLEW ME AWAY, instant Atiny and never looked back. Ateez is genuinely on a whole other level. They did this stage in the middle of a comeback and from what I heard, didn't get the best treatment. They are nothing if not total professionals. This is award stage quality. I wish they got more recognition!!
I heard and was suppose to watch this for skz but put it off.. when i became an atiny, i watched it right away and omg! It solidified my stanning them… If i had watch it as a stay, i probably would have left an atiny… Not only a comeback but other stuff too… like the drama imitation and other contents, they also had immortal songs around this time… and doing all that as 7 members.. 😭
yes! its so incredible. also kingdom itself was such an iconic show for the crazy amount of support each group had for each other. it was really wholesome and such a special thing to witness. i always come back to it. @@AureliaAndrea_
Omg!!! I thought I was the only one!!!!! All started with SKz and I fell deeply in love with ATEEZ. I'm so grateful for these boys, their talents, their music and their love and respect for international fans. Atiny before anything! And just some TMI: I went to their concert a month ago in my country and had the blessing to watch them perform live WITHOUT JONGHO (he had that knee pain that required him to go back to Korea immediately) and their voices and show was brilliant despite they did the arrangement for their songs, choreos and dancing in just a couple of days. THAT'S WHAT I CALL PROFESSIONALS!!!!
Same. I watched Kingdom recently for SKZ as a Baby Stay. Ateez had started showing up in my Recommended videos on YT and Reels on Insta, so I was aware of who they were. THIS performance makes an impression - and I finished the show as an Atiny.
Can we give props to Jongho not just for the amazing singing that BELTED outta the park but his voice didn't even waver as he swung Yunho, the tallest member, around the floor!!!!!!!! I mean, DDANG😵
They did this stage on 3 days with very little sleep. That's what blows my mind. They could have not done a stage like this but Ateez doesn't do anything halfway. They were also doing promotions for Fever part 2, dis at least 2 stages for Immortal Songs, and Jongho, Seonghwa, San, and Yunho were filming for the K-Drama "Intimidation". I think this is the only stage they had to do on so little sleep but like they pulled this while being absolutely exhausted.
I agree. I didn’t like the treatment Ateez received (everyone else had beautiful rooms and sofas. Ateez had children’s foldable chairs but never complained)) but our kings proved to the world that they’re the best…. Regardless of who received more fan votes, they fkn won. Period.
I honestly think the breathing comes natural if you pull half that energetic performance off it's just that at one point it became "IN vogue!" to "show it fully into the camrea !" Too 😂 😂
I’m SO GLAD YOU WATCHED THIS!!!! They have a full recorded version available for streaming on music platforms, and it features the group member (Mingi) who couldn’t be present for this competition show. When they toured, they swapped out Seonghwa’s gun in the Kraken-killing scene for a big sword, and they’ve done a few different variations on how he carries it down the stage over the past couple years, it’s SO COOL.
Love Love Love this performance from ATEEZ. But there are so many more that I can't even start to list them! Love their dedication and effort in everything that they do. And love that your facial expressions were matching the other groups in that had been watching live in the video. ;-D Shock and joy and disbelief and enjoyment all wrapped in to one! :-)
as an atiny i can't accept less than that from anyone, Ateez are so f amazing and incredible, its stages speaks for them self, they had something to prove and rent to pay! love them so much
I started watching Kingdom Legendary War for another group, and actually went back to start watching Road to Kingdom first before it started. I really became a fan of all the groups and loved how much they all supported each other even though it was a competition. This remains my favorite performance of the entire show.
I seen this song live at one of their concerts and jonghos high note was the ABSOLUTE BEST his mic was messing up but you could still hear him perfectly 😭
They all have great performances I love them all honestly nowhere outside of Kpop will there be this kind of amazing and out of this world performances ...
ATEEZ never does anything less than 200%. I was metal head before I found K-pop. (I started with NCT the stray kids then ateez) this is what I show the friends that were making fun of me. And now they get it (and I even found a stash of albums in my concert buddy’s closet teeheehee)
I don't know if anyone has mentioned it or not, but... They had a week to prepare that. Eden (One of their producers) and Hongjoong remixed the song putting Wonderland and Symphony #9 together and Eden coached Jongho into hitting that note... in a week. They were also promoting another song at the time and were super busy, but they always gave it their all. They still perform it this way, and it's absolutely mindboggling to witness it live. That moment where everyone holds their breath for that note from Jongho and then the second Hongjoong finishes his little bit and the music hits.... Ooof, you feel it. Ateez are known for their stages and their story. Every stage they have done fits into the complicated web of a story they are spinning for Atiny to enjoy. Stages for concerts, Kcon, TV shows (Like Kingdom), everything links back to the story. If I ever need a song to 'fight' to, it's going to be this. I'm glad you enjoyed it, and I hope you find and enjoy more (not just from ATEEZ in the future)
Oh since I didn' see anyone answer: yes, pirates are a very regular thing for them. Their debut song was actually called Pirate King, and it remains a major part of the story and lore. like I'm really excited to see you react to Illusion, to see how many of the things going on you pick up on. And it's largely set on a Pirate ship (one of their few ships they've had)
All of their Kingdom performances are PHENOMENAL. You should also check out some of their performances of Immortal Songs 2; they have the highest success rate (I think 4 wins out 6 appearances) of any kpop group.
Right??? This is amazing in a way beyond a great kpop performance. And this was all done live/in one shot. ATEEZ sings live and performs so hard! Kudos to their stage crew and production design too - the seamless way they move between the two sides of the stage to set up each set piece. Even thinking to cut the stage in half with the tall set and screen so that they could do those transitions between set pieces fast… man, I wish ATEEZ would just put on a full musical or feature length film! Just so much kudos to them and their team!
I loved this particular performance of theirs. After Bouncy came out this is what really got me hooked, because they felt like the real deal. Like they can actually sing! Their Rhythm Ta from Kingdom was cool too.
As a multi watching Kingdom Legendary War was such a treat..To see all my favorite groups come together and respect, collab, grow and learn from each other was a dream come true. Everyone walked away a winner in my eyes because the positives outweighed everything. Each performance was astonishing..Ateez blew my mind as always. They really are living ART..
I don't know if you already reacted to it or not, but if you want to see Jongho's best high note (yes, even better than this) I strongly suggest you see their "Black Cat Nero" performance. The one from Immortal Songs. It's not just about Jongho, but the performance itself it's a masterpiece, one of their best stages (it's halloween coded btw).
I love Ateez n Straykids so I decided to watch all the videos from Kingdom and i’m glad i did because I discovered other groups like BTOB (seniors) and The Boys. I was in love with most of the performances from each and every single one of each group, but i need to be honest with you: the best performance out of all was “Love Poem” by Eungwank (BTOB), Jongho ( Ateez ) and Seungmin (Stray Kids). My second favorite performance: rhythm ta by Ateez and Full Dash by Bobby (iKon) Sunwoo (The Boys), Hwiyoung (SF9); and my third: Mosnter by The Boys.
this is the performance that made me Atiny forever and made my friends and all around me!!! every time they ask me about Ateez i tell them to watch Kingdom
Still my winners I love every single group on that show but Ateez were on another level amazing during the whole thing and this was by far the best performance of the whole show
This show really gave us some of the most epic performances out there. Yeah work on your ending fairy we'll be waiting for the final decision on what it will be.
Can't wait for you to see the other performance both skz and ateez even the collab one of ateez, btob, skz you should also see the behind of kingdom that skz release.
To pinpoint the exact moment I became Atiny... Songhwa standing there regally with his gun. Seonghwa standing was what sealed the deal in a performance that is toptier. 🤣
YEEEESSSS! This is, obviously, one of Atiny’s most treasured performances..if for nothing else than Jongho’s 4 octave note. We are SO proud of our boys for this. During Kingdom they were also promoting Fireworks. They would film for Kingdom then go directly to the various music shows and schedules for promoting a comeback. They basically didn’t sleep during this whole filming and they were STILL able to give us this performance of Wonderland (and subsequently all of their Kingdom performances). I can’t remember if you’ve reacted to it yet but the choreography for Fireworks is no joke. It’s one of their only songs without an anti-drop. The choreo starts hard and stays hard. It’s non-stop high energy and it still has their famous song ending dance break that takes the choreo over the edge. The choreo is so difficult that, in concert, they sing the remix of the song and use it as a hype song typically foregoing the choreography. There’s only a few instances where they’ll perform the full choreo…saving that energy for other performances.
OMG GOSH YAY!!!!!! ♡ Ateez are %100 pirate themed , Hongjoon is known not as a leader but as our Captain. This is one of the performances that REALLY got my attention. Their dance is always flawless and the fact that they incorporated their storyline into their performances was really above and beyond to me. I don't know why but this is the performance that Yunho got my full attention. Not to mention my fangirl status for Jongho was born. Hongjoong made the music track with one of their regular producers, they incorporated Dvorjak From the new world and their song Wonderfland to create this masterpiece. When it comes to kingdom I honestly loved the interaction between the groups more than their performances themselves. I love this so much I must have watched it three times and was SO EXCITED to see the notification! I hope you check out the Kingdom 'Love Poem' performance with seungmin (skz), eunkwang (BTOB), and Jongho (Ateez). ALSO yes to Roscoe ending fairy please! ♡
I really fell for ATEEZ during this round coz Hoonjoong really watched the POTC series plus their performance really introduced themselves to me (like i havent invested much on their lore but they have a signature that like SKZ tells me, oh THIS is ATEEZ.) Plus it was so grand and raw, as you say, live. That mic was ON majority of the time. raved abt it last time but like, seriously, they really owned thus round.
Have you watched the Ateez/Ode to Joy performance yet? That is my favorite of theirs from the Kingdom Legendary Wars show. This performance you reacted to was my second favorite of theirs.
Ateez choreo does tend to stand out. Possibly because KQ sent them to train in LA pre debut & from what I know their former teacher is their choreographer. He said every time he sends them the choreo for a song they keep telling him it needs to go harder & he said “These guys are going to freaking die!!” (vividly aware that they have to sing while doing this). He wasn’t used to Kpop…said he’d NEVER encounters this in Western pop. Probably my favourite video in all Kpop is the DANCE PRACTICE of the 2019 MAMA “Wonderland/Shinee…” mashup performance. All the craziness going on in that camera lol😂 Pieces of clothing that couldn’t stay on, those who should’ve been on a surfboard, had the whole room shaking so the camera wouldn’t stay still…..oh and of course the San who doesn’t seem subject to the laws of gravity & the human structure! 😅 Lost count how many times I watched/laughed at this. Just glad no one was hurt (I think 🤔)
