Installing Directv or cable tv isn't hard. It's just learning the house structure to run cable and system configuration. Once you get use to these subject the job is easy and you can make good money installing satellite and cable tv.
Phone line is needed to get the receiver to ping or do a call back to Directv's system. If you can get a internet connection to the receiver or into the swim system, you will not need the phone line.
Unfortunately, most people think, satellite installation is as easy as having a cable tv installation. Most of the time, we can't use what the cable guy put in, because their cables are not sufficient or used shit fittings. Imagine, the customers' face, when they want 5 TVS with 5 boxes on 3 levels of the house and when I mention, that I need to drill holes and it will take more than 3 hours, they are gasping for air "how come".
Us cable guys can't use the crap that satellite techs install because we like our service to be reliable and our cables neat. I've seen some crappy install work by satellite techs. If you think cable work is easy come try it. Satellite guys don't need to worry about aerial taps or burying drops or installing several hundred feet of conduit underground for our cables.
@@l1nx2112 You can't have a system that works unless it's grounded, so I will guarantee you that it is grounded. You never tap into existing systems because you can't guarantee quality. Even in Cable, if they change providers, we run new cables. Coax is cheap, service calls are expensive for the tech. Run new cables.
If you its done the right way between 2 and half to 3 hours.. if I arrive at your home at 8am. We'd spend about 20 to 30mins going over your work order..and preinstallion walk through. If nothing goes wrong...the complete hands on installion should take about 90mins... Getting the receivers downloaded..activated...and programing remote between 30 to 40mind (depending number of receivers) 20 to 30 educated the customer on the use and functions of their system... So if I arrived to this home at 8:00am...I should be walking out of the door between 11:00am to 11:30am... Some techs will say...they could an installation this size in 60 to 90mins..but chances are they took a lot short cuts and someone will be back out fixing everything within a matter of days...and the service tech more then likely will be upset the tech who did installed screwed him over...
Depends on where you're doing the install...I work in an area where the homes are very expensive and the customers are really pickie...so everything has to be detailed oriented.... Not trying to brag about my work, but as December 2013...the only TWO repeat service calls I've had on brand new installs I've done was 1. An old lady forgetting how to change her inputs from VCR to DirecTv...and 2. A wireless client breaking down.. I been doing this now just under two years...and my customers rarely need to call back for anything aftet I leave..nothing against other techs out there but I don't do chitterling style installs.
When I go on a service calls for techs getting 771 and 775 not even days after a new install...it's usually cluster mess that needs to be redone all over.
Time saver, ha! All the hemming and hawing uses up at least 30-60 minutes of valuable installation time. Yeah, all the time wasting is how the pros do it, yeah right. The pros have some how figured out how to cut all the time so that they can sorta be on time to their next few appt. because no matter who they work for, the employers and the customers seem to think that the tech snaps their fingers and the job is done.
no. do not do business with directv. they put people out in the streets. My cousin is a single mother and they just took $421 out her account with out her permission. She wasn't on any type of auto pay or anything. When she called them and explained that they took money out her account and her rent was due the next day, they said so what. They stated that they can take money out of her account because she was past due. She told them she may evicted, would they please set up a pay arrangement for her next pay check. They would not work with her at all and she didn't even have service with them. She stopped the service because it was way too expensive. Directv is a heartless company, corporate greed at it's worse. Please do not do business with them. boycott at all cost.
Im disgusted with Direct they are telling me I have to wait till may for them to send somebody to fix my satellite what if I told them they had to wait till may for me to pay them
It's really not that bad now with all the new technologies compared to back in the old days where we had to install phone line on all new installs and getting hammered for not running them. With the swim system we just run one line into the house and make sure we connect the internet DECA to the Swim system and we are golden. But most importantly is the grounding and dish setup.
