There is something so satisfying about the flick of a blade! So in this video, I attempt to convert a folding knife to an automatic conversion.
This folding knife to automatic project was successful in concept, but with life and in the workshop, you tend to learn more from the mistakes. I learned a few things along the way, which only make my next knife conversion all the more successful!
This project was created for MAKE.
As with any company I produce videos for, I retain the right to post the video on my channel, so that my audience has the opportunity to view it as well.
I'll post as many videos as I have….
Thank you! Enjoy, Like, share , subscribe!

I like videos where inspiring people such as yourself @jimmydiresta show mistakes made. No matter how small of a mistake it is, I think it makes people wanting to give it a try feel a little more at ease knowing mistakes are even made by the masters too. Thanks Jimmy keep up the good and inspiring work

I liked the video, step by step disassembly of a lock blade. Its even better when you admit some mistakes you had in the end. This is a much better show into what custom knife makers day to day struggles are. Makes you appreciate paying a little more for custom work.

Way back in the 80's my Filipino friend gave me a broken switchblade from the philippines, I did the same thing to fix it. Then I found it almost 30 years later, bought actual parts to fix it, ended up buying a bunch of OTF's & switchblades, then a couple years later got the knifemaking bug, haven't looked back since hahaha... Hope all is well, take it easy...

The only way I can tolerate someone taking a perfectly acceptable knife, like the Buck 110, and destroying it before our very eyes is if Jimmy DiResta, or a person of his skill, knowledge and imagination attempts to make it even better. Don't give up, you got so far! Change the lock hole in the blade into a wedge slot, shallower towards the blade from the hinge pin. and make up a sliding, sprung lock with a matching wedge section. Keep the brass guides you added for the sliding lock. The sliding lock would be a lot more 'pocket safe' too. I look forward to seeing the result.
