Lately I have been working with several whiskey companies, and I have been using wooden barrels to create many things such as bars and chairs. I was inspired to create a bucket, based on some simplified techniques used in the making of a barrel. Here, I make an 8-gallon bucket using 1" pine boards. I keep the design and construction simple by making the bucket straight sided - it may look tapered on camera but it does have straight sides. Thank you, and please enjoy! This is a valuable addition to my woodwork collection ru-vid.comUgkxbnOKZBE4evMO5V2vroHeCjq6d_MV6wJO I still will rate this woodwork plan as the best in my reference library. It always seem to stand out from the rest whenever you go through the library. This is a masterpiece.

I first started to think the process of making a bucket was long and pointless, however I watched the whole video and would love to try if I had an opportunity. Absolutely awesome and relaxing by looks of things. Spending a whole day on one bucket or even a barrel and make some nice whisky. You must be very proud Sir.

In the old days of sailing ships, buckets were made of cedar (to swell up and be waterproof). They were made with the bottom of larger diameter than the top to be stable in a boat deck. And they were always left with water in side to keep them swelled up.

3:34 is a dangerous cut - with the blade beveled toward the fence (kickback city) and the already beveled edge of the work against the table and the fence has the potential of running under the fence. Turn the piece over and flipped the saw the other way and set a holddown for the work

That bucket did not look water tight on assembly. Is it the swelling of the wet wood that those buckets relied on for sealing the cracks, or were they water tight even dry?

Awesome video and build. You are always inspiring me to make something! Quick question, how do you know the angle for the sides of the staves and how wide to rip them based on the circular base that you made? Also how do you know how long to make the metal hoops that go around them? Sounds like math and maybe some pi? Thanks Jimmy for taking the time to document your stuff and share it with us!

Great video. Thanks for sharing. I have one question though. At what angle did you cut the side of stakes at to make sure that you get a nice big round bucket?
@justincooper2526
@justincooper2526 5 лет назад
Once you decide how many staves you want in your bucket you decide that number by 360. You then decide that number by 2 to get the angle to place on each side of the stave. (Ex. A twelve stave bucket... 360°÷12=30° 30÷2=15°. You set your table saw to 15°.)
