It took him a few years, but he eventually became that superstar. I am just glad that he got a second chance for an NBA title and took the Mavs on his back. He has his ring, he has his NBA and finals MVP, and hie has his over 30,000 points and most likely will be 6th all time in NBA scoring. He truly is a top 10 NBA player of all time.
Thats maybe a bit too much. I would say he is best Euro on the NBA ever, and maybe top 20 or 30 ever. But although his total numbers put him on the top 10 conversation most of those players won multiple titles and were absolutely dominant on his position. Dirk has a little problem called Tim Duncan. And another one called Pau Gasol. Both won more titles on his position on the same era. And were as good as him, but had more success.
@@EduSanjuan777 greatness isnt meassured in titles alone... Or is MJ the GOAT because of 6 in 6? I dont think so. But simple people have to rely on pure numbers. Basketball is a complex game. You should give Soccer a chance. Its a sport for the simple folks. ;)
When I was a kid our family was stationed in Leighton Barracks in Würzburg from 92-95.. We could have seen Dirk playing growing up, but the german kids we played against sucked.. But it's like Dirk is one of our homeboyz who made it.. Congrats man!
Who would have known then that a conversation between Dirk and Kobe could be made! (Easily both top 5 all-time in their position) Not many people belong in that bracket of player
Thank you so much for posting this! Very interesting look at him as a teenager. So he stayed in the second rung of the bundesliga voluntarily even though he was widely considered good enough to play in the first level?
When Dirk says he got a 3,3 in high school, that means he did very poorly. In Germany, a 1,0 is the highest you can get; it would be the equivalent of a 4.0 in the USA.
@JL0vely I think he also considered Cal, but Kentucky makes more sense for him rather than the Bay Area. I could see where he would be more comfortable there. I believe there was a 7'4" german kid named Benke ?many years ago who was also going to Kentucky but decided at the last minute not to go. It was something about about hm not wanting to leave his girlfriend.
Dirk said that he wasn't good enough to bypass college and go directly to the NBA. LOL. I heard he was considering going to Ca to play ball. Cal went real deep in the NCAA that year. If Dirk goes to Cal they win the NCAA's with out a doubt, he gets drafted higher and doesn't end up playing for the Mavs.
