Dirk Nowitzki, one of the pioneers of the fadeaway, is No. 16 on Nick Wright's Top 50 list. Nowitzki led the Mavericks to their lone championship in 2011, scoring at least 21 points in every game as they upset the heavily-favored Miami Heat in six games. He became the first European player to win NBA MVP, doing so in the 2006-07 season after averaging 24.6 PPG and 8.9 RPG as the Mavericks won a team-record 67 games. Nick notes he's the sixth all-time leading scorer in league history, which people often overlook in evaluating his legendary career.

The best shooting for sure. Lets say the best scoring besides centers. KD though is probably 7 foot also but always sticks to keeping his official size just under it. Dirk was a scoring machine in today´s NBA he would average over 30 points a game (more 3s, less defensive hackle etc). 2011 playoff-run was out of this world. Often underrated and forgotten. Thanks for giving him some well deserved love.

Arsenal wise, yes. Everybody after him in the conversation has him to thank for it. From a dominant standpoint, no, not the greatest. Based on what you're supposed to do at that size, he's nowhere close. Larry Bird said it best, though, "leave the game better than how you found it"
@victorsullivan9107

Dirk is surprisingly underrated by most people. He was a super efficient scorer with an unblockable shot. He's got an MVP, Finals MVP, and Championship. He's a member of the 50-40-90 club. He led the Mavs to 11 consecutive 50 win seasons ( a streak that's only been beaten by the Showtime Lakers and the Duncan-Popovic Spurs). He also has a teammate of the year award, which shows just how great of a guy he was.

People forget to mention WHO was coaching the '07 Warriors. The players knew exactly what they had to do and how to guard and play the Mavericks because they had their former Coach. And they executed it perfectly. That to me is a way undervalued fact to the first round loss against the WE BELIEVE warriors.

Very true. I remember my dad telling me that team was the one he was most worried about going up against the first round since they knew how the mavs played AND also Avery Johnson was the assistant coach during that time as well so he knew how he coached as well

And fail to mention who the coach was for the Mavericks. I love Avery Johnson, great motivator, great at individually developing players, but a HORRIBLE tactician. That series was a perfect recipe for disaster. It was really hard watching the team get out coached during Avery’s run.

@hardwoodthought1213 2 года назад
Duncan never had a superstar, unless your definition of superstar is someone ranked between 15-25 in the league. If that’s your definition, Nash even before MVP was a superstar. As was Luke in 19.
@Crrazzyrulezz
@Crrazzyrulezz 2 года назад
@@hardwoodthought1213 Duncan always had a better team. tony parker even became finals mvp. lets be real. Duncan always had a good co star next to him and back in that era we didnt have that many super teams ,so the spurs had great player material, of course good coaching and system too. Dirk on the other hand came from germany and had to adjust to an american league. europeans were "soft" and had no good repuatition. Dirk changed all thise in his career. He actually made it easier for people comin after him. Nash was his partner when dirk wasnt in his prime and Nash had his best years comin. Doncic was there when dirk was passed his prime. I dont know what people are trying to compare dirk´s situation with duncan´s. Dallas was never a destination for superstars or for really good players. They have to draft superstars to get one. Dirk always had to fight with players that needed a second chance or had to be build up.

@Crrazzyrulezz
@Crrazzyrulezz 2 года назад
@@hardwoodthought1213 I think people dont have to compare those two ,cause nowitzki already had a more difficult start, coming from another country and actually plays way different than duncan. And u made another example which doesnt mean anything. first of all u probably rate those players higher than me at that time. Of course we dont know what would ve happened if Nash would ve stayed in Dallas. In the end Duncan is the best PF but u cant actually say that Nowitzki hat better players around him. Nowitzki was overall more important for the NBA , cause he actually helped europeans like doncic ,gianis ,jokic and all the others to see that u can succeed in the NBA. i believe that he actually made it easier for the next generation of basketball players outside of the NBA. All in All i think Duncan is the best PF but he actually found a really good situation in san antonio, popovich and all those players for many years. Dallas was changing a lot of core players around nowitzki. Dallas before Nowitzki and Cuban was actually a really bad destination. Now it actually build up repuation.
