A guy finally got a few minutes "Free" from @ViceGripGarage so I took my boys out timber riding in the hills of Tennessee. Unfortunately, we went on a muddy day and got caught in a storm. And of course, breakage.

My step dad was a square body driving jack of all trades as well. This entire episode reminded me of all the days like this we had. He passed when I was 13. I can still see his face in detail covered in mud laughing at me as I floated a Honda 200 across a pond at 9 years old (i think)... I'm 48 years old this year..... that's the kind of memories you are making. The forever kind. Thanks for sharing this.

Reminded me of my childhood also. My dirt bike riding addiction was definitely an escape. Home from school do homework chores ride the bike till dark all day Saturday Sunday. Sometimes ride to school. Rode my KX 175 in homecoming parade. Never realized the addiction I had until just now. Think I'll go for a ride. 48club✌❤😃

I lost my dad when I was 19. Riding was something we enjoyed together but didn't get to do a lot of. I'm sitting at my desk at work and I was finished an hour ago. I couldn't stop watching. To you, it's probably just spending time with your boys. To some of us, it was a video full of teary eyed smiling. The high 5 at the top of the hill got me. You absolutely made their week. Seriously, thank you for sharing that experience. You're an awesome guy and an amazing father.

Those 44 minutes put a smile on my face and a tear in my eyes too. My dad (passed in 2015 and miss him terribly) hated dirt bikes but gave in to me when I was 14 so that I could buy my first one with my grass cutting money. 1974 Suzuki TS100 for $350 in 1980. I loved riding and kept dirt bikes for almost 40 years (mostly Honda CR250's). When my sons became old enough, we started to ride together and your videos took me back to a cherished time. They are now 27 and 26, have their careers started, girlfriends, truck payments, etc. You're a great dad and it's insanely important to take some time away do this with your sons. Thanks for sharing your day with us just to keep those memories alive.

Those suzuki TS models were great. I sadly sold mine several years ago ( mine was a 1973 ts185) bought it back in the mid 2000s when I was a lot younger for I believe $50. Needed a LOT work then and right up to when I sold it. Ol girl was stubborn sometimes to start but when she finally fired up, she just kept going and going.

Started my son and daughter on dirt bikes. We have some old lead mines from decades ago, which were converted into riding parks. Over 300 acres of sand and woods to ride through. We realized we needed quads to stay up and stable. So we switched to quads specifically Yamaha blasters which I found on craigslist all needing a little bit of work so as we were riding, we realized they had friends who they wanted to invite to come with us so we had to buy two more For their friends to ride. They have now given us six grandkids so I have been buying used quads and repairing them so we can all ride on my property. They are so simple to work on and fix some of the smaller ones have an engine like your son’s Chinese SSR. Have been finding them on marketplace for a couple hundred bucks each for the Chinese quads and paid 800 for used warrior and a little more for a breeze. Look into used blasters for the boys.

On May 3rd 2002 my step father called me out of the house to give me a present. On the flat bed of his truck (a beautiful green bumpside camper special) was a frame accompanied by box's and boxs of parts. Having dropped his dt400 and walking home one to many times I knew this was to be my bike. I spent that spring building and learning and by summer I had my very own freedom machine. Living in rural idaho that dt175 was the greatest gift I have ever received. Very much like your experience I too would ride into the mountains until I'd get to half tank then turn towards home. No one knew where I was and I had no cell phone. I would be miles up a single track in national forests without a care in the world. On that 175 I explored, I fished, I packed out my first deer, I met my first love and had my first heartbreak. I grew as a person. A couple thousand miles and three rebuilds later i sold her to fund a newer fancier motor scooter, a choice i will forever regret. It wasn't much later when my step dad passed and my world fell apart. Through a decade of on again off again homelessness and continuous loss i would often escape to those memories of blue smoke and single track, of wrenching with my step dad. Now having survived and flourished I have a home with my name on it, a beautiful wife and two amazing young boys. And one day soon I will call my oldest boy from the house and show him a plie of parts all his own on back of our green bumb side ford.

Derek you're one hell of a MAN SIR!!! I mean that with all due respect and out of appreciation, you in so many ways remind me of my own father who died about a year-and-a-half ago due to what they called covid/ pneumonia, I sure do miss him and not a day goes by that I don't think about him, however these videos especially this one with the dirt bikes reminded me of growing up on dirt bikes as well and my dad driving a 79 Chevrolet square body pickup truck and that is what we used to haul our dirt bikes ,3 and 4-wheelers around with , sometimes pulling trailer, but if your boys are anything like me and my brother those boys of yours will love you no matter what until the day they died because you are showing them what love is and what it's like to have it and to be TRULY loved and also showing them that they have to be able to take care of theirselves one day and you are teaching them how to do so alongside of having fun and enjoying time with them as well, however my father had to work so much driving truck when I was younger he wasn't around back then a whole whole lot but he definitely made up for it over the years regardless, and I also understand as well as comprehend why he worked and why he worked so hard, and that reason was to keep a roof over our heads and food on our tables or in our bellies, it's very sad to know he passed so early being that he was only 59 years old and did not get to enjoy even one hour of his retirement even, and that also I hurt my mother in ways financially , sadly my father was a straight edge person that did not drink but maybe occasionally or rarely as well as no drugs whatsoever and he quit smoking about 13 years before he died, he still worked pretty hard and workout many times when not working or doing something else to stay busy he was a very active man and would do just about anything for anyone who would ask or who needed it... it's very sad to have had to deal with it also soon and my own health is declining very fast but seeing these types of videos from you really has been heartwarming to say the least, I hope the best for you and your family Derek stay safe!!! PS : sorry for being about 2 months late on watching this however it popped up on my TV and so I had to pick up the phone and leave this comment, noticing the video was about two months old and I realized I should have watched it by now...

Pit bikes are fun but those 65 sized wheels definitely limit where you can go, especially as a beginner rider. Still it's fun to try as a kid. I never had a pit bike growing up, but I rode plenty of them. They're fun on mini tracks but for trails my XR80 or later on a KLX125 was a lot more fun. I was 10 inches from touching the ground on my RMZ250 so I never rode trails on that thing.

When I was 10 years old my dad got me a Honda 110 three wheeler. And I loved it. Then I got a Yamaha 125 when I was 14. And it was a blast. Then I got a Honda CR 250 and it was the most amazing ride ever. It takes me back. I love your Content! 2 stroke life!

Just bought my boy Bryce a 2004 KX65 in October for his tenth birthday. First full clutch ride and he is currently ripping up the lawn! Here in Maine you have to have a 12 hour rider safety course to ride off your own property, gonna get him signed up so in the spring we can head out for the trails! Thank you for sharing this!!

I was raised on dirt bikes as well. When my son turned 8, I got him a cr80 and I bought a used CR 500 for myself. He out grew the 80 and wanted a 125. I got a deal on a CR 250 so he went straight to that. You're a great dad. If more fathers did things like this there wouldn't be as many kids on drugs.

Grew up on 2-strokes. Evertime I smell the 2-smoke exhaust, it takes me back to my happy place.

My first bike when I was 10 was a BRAND NEW Honda Elsinore MR 50. Took the governor off, and that was my daily transportation, and fun. Country life in Longbranch Washington in 1981. Yer' doing your boys right! Love this.

Going thru the comments, it’s amazing how similar our upbringings were! I’m a 2-stroke feller for sure! Had a QR50 to start with, then a PW80 and ended up with a DT50. After that it was time to grow up with work and responsibilities. Now I should be able to blame my 40 year-crisis and get me a bike again! ☺️

That double edged sword of our kids doing stuff that requires a lot of discipline and maturity making us chest busting proud but at the same time we’re asking how is it possible that their even tall enough to do what their doing. The ups and downs of being the old man. Much more ups luckily. Love y’all !

This video absolutely put a huge smile on my face. It brought back so many fond memories of riding dirt bikes with my family. I got my 1980 Honda Z50 when I was 6 and then jumped up to a 1981 Honda XR200 when I was older. I remember my dad showing me how to work on my bike (and later my car) also riding ahead to check out trails just like you did for your kids. Derick, you are one fine human being and a great father! Thank you for sharing this special moment with the world!

This is awesome! I’m a feller who’s considerably older than you Derek, but I too spent my youth on dirt bikes and this is a fantastic way to have some family time! Stay safe a God bless you all! 👍👍
