Really great videos thank you! What PC specs are you using please? The quality of the in game video is so good I thought it was a different game at first!!
Perfect timing of me finding this video after getting Dirt Rally 2.0 on the Steam Sale and promptly getting my ass kicked. I eventually got a small hint of "relatively slow, but smooth" until I binned say, the Finland Course after the slow chicane lol. Still got a lot to learn but this video definitely helps. Thanks man!
This video seriously helped me. I just got the game yesterday, and was struggeling a lot. Of course I went for a too fast car to begin with, I think I jumped into the Sierro Cosworth first. That was a misstake i quickly realised. After watching this video I tried my hand on some rallycross in the Corsa 1600, and had quite a bit of fun. After that I got a Fiesta R2 or whatever it's called and tried rally again, and it was like a compleatly different game. So much fun! So thank you!
Finally got my setup sorted for Dirt Rally 2.0. Did my first Rally, did nicely... jumped straight into a H2 RWD McRae Escort and promptly span it on the first corner. Some solid tips here though! Turns out, I probably skipped a few steps with the Escort
Same, went into free roam with the 205 t16 when I got the game and could barely keep the thing from flying off the road or crashing into something every single corner. Makes you realize how difficult those high hp and RWD cars are at first.
I got the goty edition this weekend on steam, super sale, 10 euros for the entire game + DLC. I should had watch this video before putting myself at the wheels of a subaru imprenza haha
This game is the first racing sim that makes fun playing with controller. It's challenging but the best driving experience I've ever had in a video game.
Just bought it on a whim for a tenner in the steam sale not realising it was as simmy as it is. Enjoying it so far but I am absolutely hopeless at it. Furthest I've gone with my wheel in racing is F1 and PC2, obviously very very different. Good fun though. Hell of an arm workout.
Great content! I just got into Dirt Rally 2.0 after wanting to get into rally for awhile. This guide is really helpful. (I made the mistake of mastering the starting FWD Lancia and underestimated the jump to my RWD e30 :X )
I just got my sim wheel never really played racing games but im loving it, the only thing is I feel like I'm way to aggressive with my driving and I allways try to just go as fast as possible and my car just gets busted 😅
Biggest thing that started saving me was learning to tap the brake pedal right before corners to transfer weight so I don't fly off a cliff or get crazy understeer
I've only played maybe an hour or two of this so far and by far the most difficult thing to me is to know the routes. Knowing a corner comes next and etc. In dirt rally 2 even with the old rally cars with like 100hp I can't drive for shit even if I try to keep it below 100km/h. However when driving in real life you will see me blasting through the forrest roads where I live doing 90-130km/h, be it night, snowy or rainy. Dirt Rally has made me realize how important it is to be able to read the instructions you're being given, and even more so how repetition will be the key to success.
i buy this game on steam today and beginn to play it.. this game fuc me off within like 5min after first race xD but after i restart the first race again and again and again for like 1h (maby more :D) i race the first track without a crash and the repetition after it was just like an orgasm for my eys haha thanks for the tipps... i also see a vid for making more cr on this game because i dont realise i completly destroyed my vihicle again and again and spend like all of my cr for this one race :o

FIrst game today. Ehh I like Focus. How bad can it be? Crashed in to audience 3 times. Took a drive thru the woods 4 times. Lost the hood after ~4 km Lost first tire after ~7 km(Front left) Lost second tire after ~11 km(Back right) Engine light flashing for maby 9 km. Came to the finish line in a hunk of junk XD Ill start with the lancia.
I just discovered this game and also in VR I need all the knowledge available I learned more about cars playing this game than Asseto Corsa Please Help!!!
hey there, from gtp here. how-to fix on throttle understeer on older 4x4 cars like quattro, delta integrale..? in real rally vids they seem to oversteer and not understeer much exiting out of curves on full throttle. spinning out dust from rear more etc. i tried set-ups, differencials, etc. nothing.. tks for any tip
Got this for Christmas this year but already requested refund from Steam. During my first 4 days of playing this game during Christmas break, there were server outages during 3 of 4 days. Rallycross AI random times are broken, I win every heat by about 5 seconds but AI random times are still faster than my by 15-20 seconds.
Goddamn right after having finished my first Championship with the fulvia i got 300k and i spent them for the delta S4, now i suck with that car and i can't even repair it :'d
@@PJTierney In my defense I did buy the MG. After a couple races I'm getting it, but still am not comfortable pushing it as much as a need to to be competitive/place well. Working on Time Trials and ghosts right now.
Hi, how can I play double at PS4, one with the steering wheel and the other the joystick at the same stage with different cars? Is there a way to unlock all cars and tracks?
There is no split-screen in this game, you'd need DIRT 5 for that. As for unlocking everything, most of the game's content is DLC, but the Year One Pass (in the PlayStation Store) will unlock everything in a single purchase.
I have an F1 video that sort of covers this. It's slightly different but the theory applies to rally too. Basically you need to keep an ear out for what the car sounds like at low revs and high revs, and when it gets too high or low you shift accordingly.
@@PJTierney Loving your guides... I got the GOTY edition and it seemed to come with a load of extra cars - there's 37 in my garage and I'm not sure I bought any of them. From the guides I was expecting there to just two... the Lancia and the opel... I feel like I've cheated!
@@matthewmccabe5002 GOTY gives you all the DLC cars for free, now you have lots to try out 😁 I'd still start with the Fulvia though, or maybe the Mini in H1.
Cockpit is NOT more authentic. Your wheel goes IN FRONT of your screen does it not? Hood cam is what every real driver uses in sims for a reason. Cockpit makes no sense if you use an actual wheel. The cockpit is AROUND you. Not in front of you. In front of you is the hood of the car.
you are NOT in the left or right side of the car when using bonnet cam. But you are in the real life and guessing where is the right wheel of the car touching is important for rallying
@@cancali Then why do all real life rally drivers use bonnet cam? Every single one of them? Why? And it doesn't matter. Spacial awareness is spacial awareness. Center cockpit cars do exist. You don't notice being centered at all. But you do notice the speed.
@@cancali Driving a racecar isn't hard. They are designed to be easy. If they are hard its detrimental to the victory condition. "hard" is unrealistic. Hood cam is straight overall more authentic. Its singular, and rather insignificant flaw, does not outway the enormous amount of pros and authenticity it has over cockpit cam.
This game has literally made me want to bash my head against a brick wall after about five minutes just in test drive. Honestly, this is the least fun racing game I've ever had the displeasure of playing. Honest, the only words the copilot said that made any sense at all were, jump, bump, tarmac, and gravel. Completely unhelpful
What you said at the end perfectly describes why I’ve fallen in love with this game over the past few months. I can’t say that I’m very good at it but I can feel myself progressively getting better and that’s what makes it so fun. Great video!
The final tip is very important for me, because when I hopped into dirt rally at first everything seemed so hard and I kept doing mistakes and I was always mad when playing the game. Thanks for the tip!
Going from fh4 to dirt rally 2 on the wheel was so frustrating. I flipped that much in the first 2 weeks that i felt like i should have been playing tony hawk

This video should be played when you first launch the game for the first. Well done.
One advice I would give is to completely disable HUD. It doesn't provide any useful feedback car sounds and co-driver wouldn't give you, while being another thing on screen to distract you.
Really like this video PJ. I feel myself not much a beginner anymore however there's a lot of good tips and info in this. The hardest thing for me to figure out was the car progression, and I wholly agree with going the R2-NR4 route. I would also suggest if the person has access to the DLC cars, trying out the Up to 2000cc cars as they have lower repair costs and still make a decent amount of HP to give someone a better idea of what the faster cars feel and act like and there's a bit of a better selection of cars than just the NR4s Evo and Subarau, also a really good starting point after R2. Appreciate the video, and really well made.
Thanks for the kind words 🙂 For this video I wanted to avoid mentioning DLC cars initially, since new players may not have them (like all those from PlayStation Plus). The 2000cc Class is just as good a pick as NR4/R4, and has more variety too, a solid recommendation. As for tips that may help a slightly more experienced player, I'm working on that video now 😉
Yesterday, I downloaded the game through gamepass. It's an amazing game! I have never tried something as challenging as this game, and I love it. It is true that on my first rally event I crashed my fulvia multiple times lol, but it's very rewarding when you win
Got my handbrake and stick shifter today, just waiting on a package delivery tomorrow for my mount and u-bolts. Then I can finally dive into DR2. Time to watch all your DR2 videos!
I was just about to ask what camera you think is best and then you said it! 3rd person is good for seeing the angles the car is at when drifting but I love bonnet cam for the sense of speed. It still gives a good positional sense of the car, unless it has a shiny bonnet! Great vids you're doing, cheers
great vid, thanks. Im new to sim racing and been racing in simcades like Dirt 4 and Grid but just purchased Dirt Rally 2.0 want to make the jump to more a more sim based game.
Just got this game and for a person that hasn't played a rally game since wrc rally evolved in the 2000s it's a big jump. I tried driving a 205 gti and I still crash. But I won't give up. Very good video 👍🏻
The Dark Souls games are hard, but this is like a whole different level. Souls games are all about pattern recognition and this game is really tough with timing.
Coming from Dirt 3 on Xbox360 with the Thrustmaster 458 (small rotation, no ffb) to Dirt Rally 2.0 on PC with FFB wheel 900 rotation, it was a steep STEEP new learning curve. I was quite alright (always offline tho) but man did I get my butt humbled. This video helps a lot, thanks
I regurarly get within 10 - 15 sec of top guys on leaderboards I never change setups. Don't get caught up in it just focus on driving and turn of the hud especially the timing ones, it makes it easier to focus.
i just found out i’m talking to the person who did the top gear magazine in 2014 OMG! Also tips for group b cars? they all spin out i made the gears longer so there not a rocket through the gears.
Yeah, they asked if they could use one of my designs as a background 😃 Group B cars are all about patience. Longer gears helps, but your main concern is turbo lag. You'll want to briefly hit the clutch out of slow corners to spool up the turbo so that it doesn't surprise you when it kicks in.
I started playing a bit ago, and the first car U got after finishing my first campaign was a group B car, bc I was good with it is Forza 5, so I thought it would be similar lol. I was wrong :)
Got Dirt 2.0 GOTY edition and it comes with like 20 cars already in my garage. It's extremely confusing for a total beginner where to go from there :P Great tips on the starting cars, will try 'em!
I bought the game and went straight to Group B cars in time trial mode and practice. ☠ Nearly 50 hours in and kept doing the same thing. No championship/career games, just time trials. I forbid myself from using a non-Group B car, that is a rule for myself. Well 99% of the time I use the Quattro and rarely choose other group b cars.
